Lots of stories but nothing concrete on Bruno Fernandes this morning. Many variations of the theme of us including a player (or possibly more) in the deal and lots of speculation as to who that could be. Rojo turns up a lot and one claim is that Sporting would want us to subsidise his wages which wouldn't surprise me.

From Jaime Jackson. The obvious difference with any rumors from the summer is that they're not exclusively driven by the Portuguese press (as was the case back then). Simon Stone and Jaime Jackson just to name those 2 in England are backing the story as well.

One of the biggest positives of getting Bruno (if Woody doesnt shit the bed) is that teams who bunker will be forced to come out and close him down or he'll take shots from outside the box all day long. This should open up some holes in bunkering defenses. Plus, we havent had a CM who can score for ages (I don't count Pogba's blip that included a lot of penalties).

I don't get why we'd be loaning a player out to save money on a deal, if we're then subsidising his wages. And I don't get why Sporting would want Rojo to be replacing any part of the fee, when they're obviously only selling their one great player for the money.

My guess is because they want to pocket any fee but need to makeup squad numbers. Loan is an easy way to do that.

Without Rojo you'd pocket more fee, is my point, and you could get a young player from us or anyone for less than you'd have to spend on Rojo. I'd be amazed if we end up only subsidising his wages rather than fully paying.

The only real advantage we have over the Maguire case is that Sporting really are desperate to sell, so our pretend reticence might actually get us a better deal.

It is being rumored that Joel Pereira is to be the other player included in the deal (alongside Rojo). Guessing when it comes to Pereira, it's probably pretty straightforward (younger and probably not on a crazy salary) but with Rojo, it's obviously more complicated. Can understand why Sporting would want him back but there's no way they're going to be willing (or even able) to pay his current wage packet.
Can't imagine it to be a dealbreaker or anything of the sort, but it's an issue that needs to be ironed out nonetheless. There is a precedent between both clubs, ironically involving Rojo when we bought him and sent Nani the other way, with United still paying him for a full year, as his contract ran down.
As an aside, the hope here is that Woodward will have learned something about contract renewals and extending mediocre players to huge money that make them much harder to move, if need be. Seen more than enough examples at the club to realize it's a thing.

From their point of view they need a defender and being honest going back to Sporting and playing in that league is a fair reflection of Rojo level.

Is clearly to bridge a gap in their valuation and what we are willing to pay in cash. Also, was reported we banked the Lukaku money to avoid making a loss - so I honestly don't think we have anywhere near as much up-front money to pay as they will want.

They won't pay his >4m wages and he won't move without it - so thank Woody/Judge for renewing him until 2021 back in March 2018 when even then he wasn't playing.

Woody/Judge will keep extending players (news today is that Matic may get extended) as is cheaper in the short-term than buying a replacement and they are all about balancing the books and paying dividends.

If this makes us not pay 80 m for Grealish, its a good move already.

Stone saying deal is not that close. Apparently one of the stumbling blocks is they want Rojo on loan in return but he has an offer from a Turkish club and wants to go there instead (more money).

If that useless ******** keeps us from getting Bruno he should rot in the reserves. Not because of this, just because I think he’s a garbage footballer.

Hmmm. Seems like a smoke screen to me. Probably from Woody.

The fact is that swaps are so rarely a thing it's unlikely it's a part of the deal, let alone a deal breaker. IF they want to sell and IF Woody cant ******** it up then a Rojo swap is a non issue. They can either take Rojo if he wants to go, pass on him (bare in mind he is worthless) and either buy a different defender or pocket the money for next summer.

Seems much more likely to me that if the deal doesn't happen that either they didn't want to sell, the player didn't want to come or Woody wouldn't or couldn't complete the transfer.

The fact is, if we wanted the player we should have bought him in the summer. If we did want to buy him now for some reason, I can't see why the deal isn't already done.

I would assume until proven otherwise that it's another Woody dumpster fire, which will usually end badly for us, unless he by pure accident stumbles into the correct outcome.

It’s been pretty much confirmed that Sporting want to sell. But I totally agree that it sounds like a Woody issue. He seems like the type that can’t get deals past even the smallest stumbling blocks.

I'm not particularly on board with the anti-Grealish sentiment. I don't think he's what we need, however much he may seem it to the typical supporter, and Maddison is the better of the two for a top side where Grealish is better at carrying a small team. He also seems a bit

But if the feeling is that he's average at best, rather than just saying he isn't worth £80m, then I can't get on board. He's clearly, objectively good.

Woody is useless. If this deal falls through, United fans and the media should crucify him.

I can't believe fans haven't organized a walk-out or something yet. Be something to see Old Trafford 3/4 empty during a match.

What’s even more embarrassing are reports that while we’re interested in several targets in this window, Bruno is the only one we’ve made contact about.

Woody and Judge are incapable of working on more than one thing at a time. They’ve surely had a list of targets for months now. Do these idiots not know they can get deals going ahead of time so they’re ready to sign during the open window? How have these ********wits not gotten better at their jobs in 5 years?

    Leandro Paredes?

I know you said he hadnt been exceptional. I cant dispute that claim. But for me, he was the best player in the two legged tie vs us.

Like i said earlier, he has the attributes we need from a CM. Problem is he's just a prick.

What is the deal with Paredes? Is he just not a Tuchel type player? And how has he been a prick? I was under the impression he'd be a luxury player as midfields go. He definitely doesn't seem like someone Ole would have in mind for his long term strategy, moving away from signing rejects. A loan might make sense though?
