You need to watch a replay of the penalty. And to watch it again if you still hold the same opinion. The arm is clearly extended and isn't glued to the body. You can't extend your bodily surface that way.

I gurss it comes down to your interpretation of the law. I suppose her arm made her body unnaturally bigger, but the defender was trying not to make her body bigger on the side it hit her. If it had hit her right arm I would have fewer problems with the decision.

The key for me is the following:

The new rule says that in situations where "the ball touches a player’s hand/arm directly from their own head/body/foot or the head/body/foot of another player who is close/near" will not result in a penalty.

It did hit her leg first.

I understand why it was given, but I think the defender was very unlucky like Kumagai was in the world cup and I would prefer those kinds of penalties not to be given. To me it comes down to intent. But intent is very hard to judge for a referee.

Wow, impressive that mighty Beleza needed extra-time to beat Chifure! I wonder how good Saitama team can do in next year's Nadeshiko League.

Looks like Kanno, despite being still under-20, has already become integral to Beleza's line-up and success.

Meanwhile Red Diamonds come back from behind twice (!) vs INAC and will now clash with "the Green Machine" in the final match. This season, they managed to waste the league title despite being well ahead in the race for some time: let's see if they manage to take their revenge in the Empress' Cup.

I suppose both Iwabuchi and Hasegawa were out today for the injuries picked up at EAFF E1 Cup? :cautious:

Oh, Naoko Wada, @And G's favorite! I hope she anyway doesn't retire and finds a new team to go on with her career, although by now the generation of U-20 2012 WWC is aging and are closer to 30 than to 20...

Mizuki Saihara? The one who had scored two goals at U-17 WWC 2014? She played in Ange Violet Hiroshima, back then, if I am not wrong, by she had gone out of the radar for long and I had lost track of her: where she was playing now? I am glad that she gets a chance to try herself in 1st Division, although with a newly promoted team.
Many of the members of that Champion team evolved to international caliber players, making the Senior Team (Hasegawa, Hina Sugita, Kobayashi, Ichise, Miyagawa, Nagano, Minami) or anyway became high-level domestic players (Kono, Kitagawa, Shiho Matsubara, Kamogawa). Saihara deserved to be seen again too. :)

Many players don't follow Nagano in 2nd Division. I guess the cycle that started with their promotion a few years ago is now finished.
Sad that Rina Suzuki retires: if I am not wrong she was the same generation as Kyokawa and Nakada and she was playing along with them in Tokiwagi.

Very happy that Moe Kimotsuki finds a place in a 2nd Division team. :) I had found her fantastic in a Fujieda-Tokiwagi final match of the high school cup some years ago.

Fumina!!! Where is Katsurama supposed to play now? She had been the best scorers for Harima this season with 7 goals, I didn't see this coming!

Mitsuki Horie consistently scored for Shizuoka both in Challenge league and in Nadeshiko League 2nd Division: she deserved not to follow Shizuoka's relegation and to get a chance to remain at the 2nd Division level.

All the cute players are leaving Nojima. If we follow the logic that only cute players are leaving Nojima, Ohga and Kawashima should be next.

In all seriousness though, losing Kunitake is a big blow for Nojima. Nojima's defence is pretty bad, but a lot of the problems come from Sakuramoto and Ishida, so she is going to be missed. Ohga is going to have a thankless task now.

On the Japanese Nojima thread I follow, people had been saying Kunitake would be leaving since November. Of course people on these threads do tend to talk nonsense, but they got this one right. However, they think she is going to Beleza, I doubt that very much, but I really do not know either way.

Naoko Wada is actually not a bad player and I think was under used at Nojima, so I am not surprised she is moving on. The Japanese used on the Nojima website would indicate that she is not retiring and will be going elsewhere, but where.

She is not a world beater and will never play for Nadeshiko, but she is definitely good enough to play regular football in my opinion. When she was used at Nojima she played well.

Also Nojima are looking for a new coach. Akemi Noda resigned/did not have her contract renewed? She has been ill for the last month, so maybe it is connected, but it probably has more to do with Nojima's poor football this season.

Also if Haruhi Suzuki is leaving Nagano then she is more than welcome to join Nojima.

The international update will be way shorter in this Christmas week: most women's leagues are currently in break (Division 1 Féminine in France, Frauen-Bundesliga in Germany, Serie A Femminile in Italy) and will resume in January or even in February (Bundesliga).

So only Australia and Spain remain active.

    Aussie W-League:

    - Melbourne City played once again on Thursday (the 19th) and they won an home match vs Perth Glory by 1-0. They use to win by the minimal margin, but they're anyway leading the league, so it looks like it's enough. Yukari Kinga started and played the full match. I'll post the link to highlights, although in the last two weeks I didn't manage to have the video start on my PC: does anyone else have any trouble with Aussie-W-League videos? :cautious:
    https://www.w-league.com.au/video/match-highlights-melbourne-city-v-perth-glory-westfield-w-league

    Liga Femenina:

    - Deportivo Abanca-Real Sociedad has been postponed.

    - Sporting Huelva-Athletic Bilbao 0-3. Yoko Tanaka started and was subbed out at 69'. I didn't see the game: if @pierre bezukhov did, he will tell us if Tanayo has been played in yet another position. Meanwhile Sporting Huelva are basically back at square one and they're now in third-to-last position in the rankings.

    - Levante-Espanyol 1-1! Unexpectedly, Espanyol take away a point from third-placed Levante. Ayaka Noguchi started and was subbed-out at 83'. It's just the 3rd point made by Espanyol this season, so they of course keep their last position.

There is no footage that I can find at this point for this particular game. Sporting Huelva had a player sent off, and after that they conceded three goals.

All I know is that Yoko missed a penalty! Her confidence must be even worse after that. I can't remember her missing a penalty before.

I don't want to make too many excuses for her, but it must be quite a bit of a footballing culture shock for her. Just from watching the games I have noticed how much more vocal and critical the Spanish players are compared to Japanese players.

Japanese players tend to keep grievances with each other to a minimum, or at least polite until after the game. It is just something I have noticed watching Huelva.

Oh yeah and Kunitake is moving to Sendai.
