It'd be great if Santos had a good run next year. I think they have built a good team and while it may be a tier below Flamengo, it should be quite competitive in 2020.

São Paulo is still a team in evolution. Some of the "prata da casa" (young players from the youth divisions) have shown promise but the team has some ground to cover before it can seriously be called a contender. São Paulo reaching the Libertadores quarterfinals would be considered a decent result.

With Jorge Jesus and most of the roster intact, Flamengo can definitely contend for a 3rd title.

A lot of talk early on about how good Corinthians has looked under Tiago Nunes and they lay an egg vs Guarani. Luckily for them, it was only 1-0.

The Tiago Nunes hype train is getting slowed down fast.

And have any of you guys caught tim announcing games? He is actually adding a lot even though our english commentary is always terrible. I saw him for the corinthians game and goias game this week. I hope he does fortaleza tonight.

and when does Paraguay start getting some love? After the argentina teams they are the clubs i fear the most in the libertadores.

Four Brazilian clubs had their first matches of this tournament yesterday and all four won. This is most likely unprecedented! Will Palmeiras, Flamengo, and SPFC make it 7 for 7?

Even though Flamengo is a candidate for the Libertadores 2020, my guess is on São Paulo to conquer the title

I would love for that to happen. Why do you think São Paulo will win it?

Independiente del Valle smoked Flamengo 5 x 0. Some really nice goals scored. Humiliating loss. Miguel Angel Ramirez was the coach I thought Brazilian teams should have looked into.

O Rogério Ceni e o Rodrigo Caio afundaram o Flamengo.

O Rodrigo Caio fez aquela falta boba e pegou o segundo amarelo. Daí o Ceni imediatamente mudou o time, tirando o Everton Ribeiro e o Arrascaeta, assim privando o time de muito potencial ofensivo. O Racing marcou o gol e o Flamengo se afobou.

O William Arão marcou no fim e errou o pênalti. Acontece.

Mas até a expulsão do Rodrigo Caio, o Flamengo era claramente melhor. Perdeu gols no primeiro tempo.

A bit harsh to blame Ceni so harshly. They dominated the game and had scoring chances but didn't put them away. He can't put the ball in the back of the net. He can only "take them there" through tactics. Even after the subs they created at least 2 good scoring chances with a man down in 20 mins. You can't expect much more in that situation. And then ended up tying the game up and taking the game to PKs.

Based on what I saw in the first half, I thought Flamengo was going to cruise into the quarterfinals. It's not Ceni's fault the ball didn't go in when Flamengo had chances, and it's not his fault Caio committed an utterly foolish foul in midfield when he already had a yellow. I agree with that.

Ceni is in a rough spot as he just arrived and Flamengo was eliminated from two mata-matas under him. He's barely had time to work. I for one think he should've stayed at Fortaleza.

That said, I do believe that Everton Ribeiro and Arrascaeta on the pitch would have created more scoring chances, and them on the PK lineup may have made a difference. Alas, we'll never know now. And this was a Racing side which was getting its tail kicked in its own league's play before the mata-mata started.

Internacional can take this team. If Boca advances, however, it will likely eliminate Racing without much difficulty. Flamengo now only has the league.
