“It boils down to culture: ours is about winning, Barca is about learning.“

One of the cornerstones in the factors that keeps us from being a global soccer powerhouse.

And whoever said two cycles at most for WNT....Spot on!!!

Someone told me that this is Barca’s B team. I have no way to verify this though.

I wouldn’t be surprised. I saw Barca’s women’s first team play Juventus. Stumbled upon it a few weeks back. Blown away at the level and quality.
This is a good resource for top level European Women’s soccer. Looks like they stream a lot of games for free.

The touches from those Barca girls were so impressive. If they picked up a turnover, 50/50 ball, or the rare errant pass it was instantly to the turf under full control. PDA looked frantic by comparison.

I watched parts of ICC Midwest v Barca and I actually thought it was a better match. The Eclipse girls, at least the ones that started, did a better job of keeping the game under control.

I'll play. Too bad there really aren't that many GREAT girls coaches. RD at Eclipse is basically out of the youth game nowadays. BH is an assistant w Sockers but was also a WNT assistant coach for Greg Ryan during his term. He's old school but I'd take him anyday. I'm gonna take the liberty of moving some guys around lol. My picks in the Chicagoland Girls Coaches Fantasy Draft:

    U14: RC at Sockers
    U15: RC at Sockers
    U16: FG at FCU
    U17: DR at Sockers
    U19: DR at Sockers

DR and BH are a package deal since they're always working together and are hands-down the top coaches in the area for older players IMO. I'd take RC based on what I've heard mostly from last year although I don't know him. FG I also don't know well but I've heard is a nice guy and doing a good job with some of the teams at FCU who lost tons of players to Eclipse NB.

I wouldn't take any current Eclipse coach. Too many are a-holes and/or have history of inappropriate behavior. Would rather take guys who not only have a history of producing players but also good characters and good teachers of the game. If we include U13 maybe I'd put down JS at Eclipse NB just because he's a likable recruiter so he could get some girls in the door. Just keep him away from the pool parties lol!

    Anyone else?

I would take BH @ Sockers over DR and RC frankly.

If I may change the question a bit... If your daughter had to have one coach all the way through (8-18/19), who would that be?

No politics, no favorites - just the one coach you would choose.

I think in this case AG is a good choice and I would even consider (and I know many of you will cringe, but DD as well).

Was talking to an FCU parent earlier. She said FCU took players down to a recent DA event in Florida and they didn’t even got rostered for some of the games. Quite a few of them are now planning on playing HS as soon as it starts in a few months time.

So far, I like the technical director at Fire academy, CC and goalie coach, ID.
My son is not a goalie but he gets a lot of great coaching from ID.

IMHO - there is not many coaches like DD in Chicago. He is a magician with development.

I agree - but I would place AG a close second.

His U12-15 teams play a wonderful style. I would agree that he's a magician in TEAM development. Still waiting for him to produce a pro or even graduate out a top U19 team tho. His teams tend to implode by U16. I believe his ego is his own worst enemy when it comes to actually finishing the development path for his players. There's one task of the coach that he struggles with: leading the player. If a kid doesn't work for him he blows his top. Kid has a bad day he lights him up. A good coach knows when to push and knows when to put the arm around a kid. I still think DD needs to master this before he really becomes a top coach.

Still love watching his middle school aged teams play tho. Wonderful team style.

Heard 22 players traveled at 2005. You can only roster 18. Bad decision to bring that many. 18 is too many IMO.

No one will ever know how CC really is as a coach because he doesn't actually coach teams lol. Since the big cat left town I do agree that ID is the best GK coach in the area.

I just don’t understand how this is good for anyone. Who does it benefit?

I was told from a parent it was because they felt the need to carry a larger pool based on their history of girls leaving to play HS soccer. Give a taste to some girls that are on the edge of the pool so if others leave they'll have incentive to stay and they won't lose a whole team to HS.

Ironic that it'll more likely be the reason why they leave. Another FCU fail.

Yeah I would agree on this as well. But my context will never be whether a coach can send a player to the pro ranks. Getting some cash for D1 or D2 is all I would look for. For that I think he can cope today.

It's a damn shame that DD is not on the girls side at Eclipse because that is exactly what that club needs.

From my experience it benefits the coach’s pocket. One of the many reasons we left TC was that the second team carried 19. The 19 th girl who didn’t play was required to dress and attend the game no matter where it was.

Not surprised - probably 3 sockers girls at Eclipse, a couple FCU at Eclipse NB.

This is what I expected with the GDA and Eclipse in the early years - just alot of bouncing around by un-happy parents/players.

Damn shame we can't have one top league.

Likely kids that don’t want to play high school in the spring.

You are right, CC does not coach a single team but he is very much involved with practices and games.
He is developing coaches and players in Fire academy. It will take time to see how well this is working, I am just saying I like it so far.
