You make a good point. Cruzeiro has been in a funk and if Mano Menezes, who was there for years and who won 2 consecutive Copas do Brasil, couldn't get the team to start performing, Ceni may well not have what it takes either. I love Ceni for everything he did for SPFC, but he's still less experienced than someone like Menezes. If he fails this year, it could be a stain on his developing career as a manager. It is a gamble. If he makes Cruzeiro one of Brazil's best teams again, then he'll definitely enjoy the payoff. But will the gamble pay off?
I don't think Sampaoli asked to leave. I think Santos already knows and are trying to collect the contract breakout fee. They are now leaking info that Sampaoli wanted a % of player transfer from players that he "discovered".
Did you see the demands he made in order to continue? He wants a flamengo like budget and also demanded Santos not play games in the city of sp. None of this is realistic with the current economics of the club. He doesn't want to stay.
He also wanted chartered flights. Whether he was deliberately forcing Santos to release him or whether he thought he was entitled to that, who knows. I can understand why he'd want reinforcements, but Santos simply lacks the budget. If he ends up in Palmeiras, on one hand, with the roster it has and with the players Palmeiras can afford, Palmeiras could be the Flamengo of 2020. On the other hand, if Palmeiras does not win at least one major title - Libertadores, Campeonato Brasileiro, or Copa do Brasil - it could hurt them fiscally in the long run. I read an article about how Palmeiras fans need to look at Cruzeiro and be aware that if Palmeiras' management makes mistakes the way mistakes were made at Cruzeiro, that Palmeiras could have a similar fate.
Obvious he is forcing his way out without saying he is quitting. Santos giving him a big middle finger by going public saying he quit. The Santos president never liked him and he would have been gone a long time ago if he wasn't doing a fantastic job. They apparently haven't spoken directly in 5 months.
The contract breakup fee in Sampaoli's contract with Santos expired today (R$10). No wonder Santos went public saying Sampaoli was quitting. The funny party is that Santos said he said on Tuesday night that he was quitting on Monday during their meeting. But throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday Santos was telling the "setoristas" that there were still chances they could get into an agreement with Sampaoli.
Luan from Gremio to Corinthians. Not sure that's a good fit. Tiago Nunes said privately to a reporter that he isn't going to change Corinthians style that much. At least not from the start.
Anderson Barros from Botafogo will be Mattos replacement. That's Palmeiras 4th choice. Other options supposedly got turned off by the fact that the new director won't have the same power Mattos had. There will be a council to oversee things.
Don't laugh. Mickey Mouse Cup is ours this year. I am surprised you haven't gone back to that comment I made at the beginning of the year about Flamengo winning it. I was fully expecting it.
lol. I wish I got his view for the libertadores. It was awesome seeing him standing on the field during the game. Jesus won me over and this sounds crazy from pet but he might be right.

I am not really that bummed. Reports of Sampaoli's personality at Santos tell me it could have been a disaster for us. Only problem is I have no clue who they are going to look for. The first obvious rumor that always gets thrown around ... Luxa ... who just left Vasco. The guy who was saying Vasco was his last job and now would be coming back ?
