Why so negative all the time? You sound like a psycho woman from Cartagena. And no, he doesn't suck. Falcao wasn't exactly a goal scoring machine in the beginning of his NT career. A goal here and there.

yea but I think Falcao was more the service. He played as the #8, #10 then needed to pass it to himself to score.

the misses Morelos has had with the NT are laughable. It could be nerves but he is getting better service then Falcao ever did. to me we need to play with 2 strikers or maybe with James and Quintero their will be less pressure on Morelos but the formation needs to change.

also not being negative just the only team that matters to me is Colombia that is it. All other teams can cease to exist.

to me Morelos right now is Jackson Martinez. Happy that he is doing incredible but let’s start having that translate to the Senior NT.

Morelos has not played a single competitive game for Colombia yet, its friendlies, Some players need the pressure of a competitive match to be at their best, besides that he's played only a handful of games and that is the nature of goal scorers. You don't judge them on a small amount, you look at the big picture. A formation change wouldn't help Morelos or any of our strikers other then Falcao and Borre because they aren't great as solo 9's but Morelos and Duvan have a big sample of being fantastic playing in that position and being able to also bring others into play. If we want James/Quintero on the field we really shouldn't be playing a two forward lineup because those guys will need help defending in the midfield and two forwards hurts that. We played lots with a two forward system last cycle and we were really bad for most of the cycle, the system fit when we had Falcao and Teo playing really well and two fullbacks who were fantastic at overlapping, we don't have those type of players now which is also a big reason why we struggled for the vast majority of the 2018 4 year cycle. Also at our very peak play wise was likely the 2014 World Cup in which since we didn't have Falcao we played with one forward and played at our best.

Valid points but I agree with CRZD as well. I don’t want Morelos to fall into the same category as Jackson and Bacca. But let’s be honest - Morelos had a two game window that he probably won’t see again for awhile. I hope I am wrong and will be like glad to see Morelos deliver the goods during the WCQ and CA in 2020+ but after last two games, I don’t know if he was convincing enough. to Morelos benefit, he doesn’t vanish the way Jackson/Bacca did

We struggled for a variety of reasons last cycle, but it’s not worth it for us to torture ourselves and replay what went wrong or didn’t go right. Especially with the holidays coming up - let’s all be in good spirits :)

Our best form in my eyes was 12-13 when we had the core team of:

    edwin-abel
    Mac20-James
    Falcao-teo

With Aldo, Roca and cuadrado off the bench

I don't think anyone should be to quick to worry about Morelos, he's 23 and just getting his chance with the national team and it seems fairly clear that CQ recognizes his talent. If he doesn't play for a while its because we have one of the best center forwards in the world in Duvan, a guy we should be building our team around along with James. There shouldn't be a ton of pressure on Morelos, we have talent around him and he's going to keep getting better and more experience. Missing a few chances in a few friendlies doesn't mean the guy is going to be a dud, Jackson's career with Colombia likely wen the way it did because he was on the scene at the same time as Falcao, Bacca and Teo. Pekerman really liked Teo and obviously Falcao and Jackson's chances to prove himself were limited because of the competition and because of Pekerman's style preferences. Morelos is a good age so that if Duvan keeps going the way he is when he starts aging out Morelos should be hitting his peak.

All in all I think its good that Duvan will be pushed and that Morelos will likely have to prove himself and have time to keep growing, that gives us options but also doesn't put all the pressure on a 23 year old who still is only starting to play in highly competitive games in Europe and with Colombia.

hope so but honesty we should hope that is every promising player available. Would be awesome if at the next World Cup James is 100% healthy and as good as he ever was but we have 15 other players better then he is.

He’s just having fun. Don’t take things so literal.

Morelos is on fire last year like Duvan was around this time of year.

Time will tell where everyone stands by March / Copa America. I do agree with your point the other day about Morelos now needs to take his form to the NT level. He’s at a point now where form is not a concern at the club level like other “core” NT players. The good news is age is on his side but there are other strikers chomping at the bit for opportunities as well.

Dang, can't believe his luck vs Celtic in the SPL Cup final. It's like Messi winning his 6th ballon d or but still can't claim any silverware with the NT.

    https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/rangers-fans-fear-alfredo-morelos-21052613

Rangers fans fear that Alfredo Morelos is destined to never score against Celtic after the striker saw his penalty saved by Fraser Foster to prevent his side drawing level in the League Cup final.

Morelos was shoved over by Jeremie Frimpong near in the box and the referee had no hesitation in awarding the penalty.

But rather than Rangers captain and usual taker James Tavernier stepping up, Morelos himself decided to assume responsibility.

The Colombia international fired his effort low and hard but nowhere near the corner, allowing Forster to parry the ball to safety.

With Celtic down to 10 men after Frimpong saw red in the incident, Steven Gerrard's men laid siege to the Hoops' goal.

But Morelos skied another chance leaving Rangers on the verge of defeat and fans complaining that he must be jinxed.

"Alfredo Morelos is actually cursed, won't ever score vs Celtic," wrote one disbelieving Gers supporter.

A second wrote: "The sitters Morelos has missed makes it look like he’ll never score against Celtic, it’s like he’s cursed."

"I swear you couldny write it, Morelos is f**king cursed against the Gers," agreed a third.

"Morelos is cursed. Can’t score when it matters," tweeted a frustrated fourth fan.

Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner was surprised to see Morelos stepping up to take the crucial penalty.

"Why isn't James Tavernier not taking that?" he said. "I can't believe the penalty taker gives the ball away.

"He's the captain, he should take responsibility."

Gerrard, meanwhile, refused to comment on reports he is set to sign a new Rangers contract ahead of the Scottish League Cup final.

I saw the match. Part of it must be the pressure, the penalty was not good and a coupe of times it looked like he would have scored against another team. But there is bad luck too, it crazy he hasn't scored against Celtic in 11 matches (not all of them as a starter).

Morelos is clearly our number 2 striker behind a healthy Duvan right now. We're all paying attention to his goals but his overall play is really ********ing good. I don't want to see Falcao playing over him if he's back healthy, Morelos does so so much for a team and he's also scoring goals a huge rate. The whole teams success at Rangers hinges on Morelos hold up play and all round ability, he drops deep to get the ball constantly and has the strength and ability on the ball to absorb the pressure and uses his vision to find teammates in difficult spots. He is a complete perfect fit for the type of 4-3-3 we are playing with 2 wide forwards who can profit off that space and vision of a 9 who can drop deep and do what he does. Duvan and Morelos could also probably play effectively in a 4-4-2 because they both can drop deep, can both move wide and can both play on the line of the last defender. I don't think its ideal but you could set up with a 4-4-2 with James or Quintero wide and someone like say Diaz on the other wing and allow Duvan and Morelos to use their movement to take turns dropping in to help the midfield defensively. I don't know if its the best possible formation or necessary because it would take a lot of work and training to get them both to figure out the roles and have to adjust their style and spacing a bit which is difficult in international soccer with so little time and ability to work on stuff that isn't necessarily natural to two guys who aren't playing in that type of system or had a lot of time together.

Until our strikers start banging in goals in yellow or do great build up play to assist in a mf scoring then no one is or should be set in stone.

Other than Sanchez, Ospina and Mina. Think every position on the team is open. Maybe Barrios as well is untouchable. I would love to say James if he is ever healthy again.

Would be a good spot for him, they really need a good CF but the team creates a lot of chances so there would be every chance for him to do well. Aston Villa and Everton both could really use him this season, but its better for him anyways to do it in the summer and get a full preseason with his new team.

Scored a goal and received a second yellow card (-> red card) after a provocative celebration. I guess he'll learn some day... But he was dangerous the whole match once again.

He has to learn to control his emotions.
    ( I know, Thanks Faryd)

But if he does not he is only going to be a burden and a liability in big matches that are physical, dramatic and highly emotional.

He also did that with a relatively evenly matched/tough group by Europa League standards. Lots of players got to play really weak sides and run up the scores, Rangers were probably never a major favorite in any of those games so there wasn't any easy games to run up goal totals.
