A certain Fire legend whose name begins with “No” and ends in “Vock”? The best player to ever wear the white stripe, red jersey?
Hard pass, but if we brought him along, we could always go with chapter 3 of the Freddy Adu under Nowak MLS experiment.
Limiting him to as much of a mostly supersub role while giving him just enough playing time to keep the PR suits happy was an achievement (having Jaime Moreno playing the best season of his life helped too). But man... having been around Philly during his tenure there, Nowak was more Pauno than Pauno, with a bit of Nelson thrown in for good measure.
And where is Adu now? How many golden boots did he win in other leagues and teams? Maybe Nowak saw through the hype.
Considering the amount of playing time he gave the kid and the number of roles he tried to shoehorn him into, I'm going to say, no he didn't. Either way, the Adu thing was mostly a joke, but he was an epic disaster in Philadelphia. WTF inconsistent lineups, players who hated his guts, a blame everyone else but me attitude... It's almost no surprise that he was the guy who brought Pauno to Major League Soccer. 1990s nostalgia isn't going to save the Fire.
1990s nostalgia isn't going to save the Fire. It was a great time in my life, but I have to agree. To be a success, Mansueto needs to go really big. So far it looks like he knows that.
Yup. But any successful club needs to take care of their history. Also, Mansueto is going to have to tone down the fetishization of Seattle eventually. While I’m sure there’s plenty to learn from there we shouldn’t just try to mimic their success. Seattle isn’t Chicago.
I guess I mean big new ideas, not just big names. Although, those probably wouldn't hurt (depending on egos, etc.)
As soon as Mansueto called the super friends "great guys," or whatever other euphemism he used for shitty employees, I knew they were gone.
I’m with you and xtomx on this one. I’ve been lobbying on CF97s FB page for a bit now for Joe to hire Razov as coach and Peter Wilt for GM. Maybe I’m being too nostalgic but I’d gladly welcome those two back with open arms.
Ante is more than a nostalgia pick , he is likely the best non-rehash domestic hire out there. I think it's pretty telling that Ante has been an assistant under Bradley, Arena and Sigi.
The guy who fired Sigi... I would be shocked if it comes to fruition. But if it does it means Joe has put some serious money where his mouth is or someone is a phenomenal salesman.
But for Derby (15 pts) having been docked 21 points at the beginning of the season, Reading (22 pts) would already be 4 points below safety. Derby are averaging .5 ppg better than Reading, so could be expected to overtake them by March 15. If Derby survive relegation, Rooney should be named manager of the year. Wow. "Rooney should be named manager of the year", were not words that I ever expected to see, let alone write.
