Favre -> Time to part ways

You can say what you want about the French league, I think it is heavily underrated. Their biggest problem are all those players they are loosing every year (also to BL). But there’s more than enough talent.
And Schalke? Yes they have maybe changed many managers, but looks like they finally found one, and it’s one of “ours”. We have to count with them now

He's closer now to finishing with Liverpool. The question is when? And can we wait for him? Klopp would be my first option overall, ignoring where coaches are currently in their contract.

 

Depending on the timing (if his end of contract coincides with Löw retiring from the NT job), I think Klopp once said he'd be interested in the Germany NT coaching job. But answers to these kind of question are often not saying much and go to the least controversial option. I just can't see Klopp as an NT coach.
But at least this episode shows that the club wasn't fixated on Favre the whole time.

 

No the board is full of idiots too. They will likely keep him around even after we dont place in a champions league position.

 

If they dont replace Favre then we deserve the Europa leagues and frankly I dont care. Keeping Favre im not sure we wont be middle table.

I would go ahead and sell Sancho at the Winter break to get more money if this is what they plan on doing this season. Wasted his value if we arent going to compete.

 

If CL quali is seriously considered in doubt, then they'll act but by then the season may already be over. It was the same with Bosz where they waited too long despite the series of bad results.
Currently, Gladbach is getting good results and might take a CL spot if they can keep it up in the second half of the season. It's not by luck that they are up there. They are 6 points in front of us. Bayern and Leipzig are the other obvious CL candidates. One of Hoffenheim, Schalke or Frankfurt could become dangerous as well.

Concerning Bayern, it was said that Kovac lost at least part of the locker room. It was again parts of the team that wanted him gone and who were a major reason for that decision. With Ancelotti that makes it the second time in the recent past when it was basically the players that got their coach sacked. I can only assume that our players still have trust in the coach.

 

looking at klopp and what hes done with lpool in recent years, makes me wanna LF to give klopp a call and ask a thing or two about a winning team mentality

 

I’d prefer Klopp giving a call to Zorc or Watzke, asking what the hell is going on with this team

 

Fans who lost patience with Klopp in 2014-2015 when he hit a slump suddenly want him back after his Liverpool CL success lol. Choice gems:

Really wont find much better in the game than him currently. EPL certainly has a list of good managers currently. Id take about 50 of those managers over Favre.

 

its not just one game, klopps liverpool is the strongest i personally ever seen and hes bout to make history by winning their first ever premier league. and to beat sugar daddy club like man city for league title is not easy achievement, ofc its only near mid season so things might change. nevertheless klopp made liverpool into a powerhouse again and its not a one season wonder or a one final cl final wonder, hes going solid for 2-3 seasons now and who knows how long it will last. he was good in dortmund but now he got even better with liverpool. would i take him back? sure in a heart beat! would i have him leave back when he did? yes, cuz i dont think he might have turned things around back then.

 

Fair enough, in any case BVB management had better judgment than most on here to not sack Klopp and see his resignation as a setback. Every coach has bad spells, no one is 100% perfect every season. Pep has not proven he can win in Europe without Messi Xavi Iniesta. Pochettino is now having a similar kind of season as Klopp back then and if Tottenham were to sack him, Madrid Bayern and other clubs will hire him because it's not the coach's fault they cannot immediately replace the impact of important players who left, even after spending big on new players. You just can't predict who will turn out a dud buy sometimes, that's life.

 

Pochetino is one of the few coaches out there for whom i think the chance of success outweighs the risk of failure for bringing a new coach mid-season. And now he's available.
Still, I think 1.5 years is not enough to give a coach to setup a system. I don't want us to be the club that changes coaches like underwear.

We already beat Köln but it was quite the struggle as well.

Reus said that Favre is preparing them well for the matches but that it's up to them to deliver on the field. Not sure what to believe but he has the first row seat and I guess the cause for the problems is somewhere in the middle. You can do your homework and still get things wrong. We didn't look prepared or set up for their counter-attacking game.

On edit, further comments from the players aren't that favorable:
Reus apparently said that they didn't know how to play the gegenpressing properly (wtf???).
Hummels, stressing several times that the switch to the 4-1-4-1 was crucial in that interview, on Reus' comment: Let's put it this way. It's easier for us to press in the 4-1-4-1. I'll leave it at that.

Another comment by him about the problem everyone sees:
"I'm talking about simple ball losses and lack of concentration. And situations where you play the ball in the opponent's foot or out of the field without pressure of the opponent. We just have too many of them. I've been in Munich for three years and there it was very important that this doesn't happen. It is an absolute quality feature of top teams that you can control and dominate an opponent with the ball. We can't do that at all, because we always give it up far too easily."

 

The climate is changing a bit, regarding the fans, the media and the board. Favre has to deliver:

Comments by Watzke at the general meeting: Favre still has their trust but results matter in football. They hope for a change to the better.
Further comments are interpreted as that their support for Favre has reached a low and that the next two games are the last chance for Favre.
Some fans in the stadium already demanded a coaching change and the reporting in the media goes towards that development as well. That is how it usually starts.

Ralf Rangnick- RBull Development guy. I like him alot.
Roger Schmidt- Dont know what I think of that one. I would rather see someone different but right now I would take anyone over the idiot Favre

 

I'd take Rangnick for any position but I think he was also considered by Bayern and had other plans.
