Nah, it was the tying goal as a last-minute sub to at least save the humiliation of regulation defeat. VVV and fans know no glory, they only know gradients of shame. And Wright arrive late to stave off epic humiliation makes him a hero, despite his contribution to "joke of the week (again)" status.
Coming sunday: It's odd but VVV Venlo, despite being a perrenial relegation fighting club, is a bogey club to Feyenoord. Only against Ajax has Feyenoord a worse away record in the books (24% against 39% with VVV) wins . So that doesnot bode well in our current confused erratic state.

The real question is what happens next for Haji. Schalke is subsidizing Haji in the Eredivisie (since he's obviously not worth the high non-EU minimum salary). He's on a one year deal with VVV with an option for a second year. I don't think the deal will have Schalke subsidize the option year (maybe at a different % where VVV takes on more of the salary), but I don't know. If so, maybe VVV keeps him. If Schalke isn't going to subsidize anymore, Wright is gone. He's living on borrowed time at VVV and in the Eredivisie overall. Schalke tried to pedal Haji off to the Galaxy this past summer but the Galaxy said no (to be fair, I heard Schalke were asking a lot). Would the Galaxy or another MLS team take Haji on a free? Maybe. That's certainly not guaranteed. If he wants to stay in Europe, maybe somewhere in Norway or Sweden will bite. It's tough to determine his level. He hasn't done himself any favors in Holland so far. Maybe he picks up steam in the months ahead? That's possible. But he's playing for his next deal which will be in another countrty. But right now, he's not heading in the right direction.
It's not like you've got no chance for success when at VVV. Honda started his career in Europe with VVV when they were in our 2nd tier. He helped them promote and made a huge impression playing with them in the Eredivisie, that paved the way for contracts with the Eueopean top clubs. The lesson is: Perform as a star and shine, then, even from a humble club like VVV, you will end up at the big clubs.
There are always exceptions, but it is not easy for a decent but not great attacker to shine at an Ered bottom feeder. There simply are not enough chances. Especially if you only get a single season to make your case. It can be done, but most don't.
It's sad. So much potential but, it just isn't coming together for him. Venlo really gave him a chance to resurect his career by scoring some goals on a shitty team and he just isn't getting it done (does have some time to turn it around). I really wanted it to work out for him but, it seems he will end up at a USL level, which isn't the end of the world but, I thought he had more in him.
Any idea how he's rated by Kreis and the U-23 staff and whether the Olympics might play into his future? Both as a milestone and as a showcase.
I never asked Jason about him specifically. But I would guess that at center forward Haji is behind Ebobisse, Soto, Toye, and Ferreira (who I am told is very close to being eligible). Then at wing he's gottta be behind Lewis, Llanez, Lennon, Saucedo. It's tough to know for certain but I don't think Haji is in a good spot for the U-23s either.
Possibly. I think they are really in the mix if the team gets to Tokyo. For qualifying? Perhaps. That's complicated. Don't let that distract you from the key point which is that Haji is probably behind a lot of people right now in any form of the U-23 team.
Any thoughts on how he went from lighting it up with Weston in the academy to being a sub-MLS/b2/championship player? Is that just his level?
he never light up in Schalke U19, he was even outperformed by younger players. Besides with his big height and physique that helped him do better than he would otherwise in youth level. The U19 level cannot be assessed properly because every year you got new players, one year can have weaker or stronger vintages, if I recall Wright was during a weaker vintage in U19 West. Also physical advantages play a role in youth levels that might not be there in pro levels anymore. Schalke saw some promise in him so he got a pro contact but Wright did not impress in 2BL for Sandhausen, also failed a 2BL trial at another club. When he did well enough it was OL/5th division, didn't impress for Schalke in 1st team when he was given chances with mass injuries. Now it seems like Schalke wanted to get rid of him on top of that. And his current start in Eredivisie......
neither Wright nor Weston were U17 eligible in Germany as they needed to be min 18. Pulisic due to his Euro passport was able to come earlier.
That's not a good sign for the invalidity of the criticisms that you're comparing him to Freddy. You're using troll as a buzz-word to discredit the objective criticism. The sheet must be trolling by crediting him w/ zero goals or assists in 700+ minutes as an attacker in an attack-friendly league.
sadly, the Freddy trolls were the posters who I insisted it was anti-American bias that explained his failures rather than a lack of something in Freddy.
He looked like he could barely put one foot in front of the other for Schalke last season. Getting into mid-November without an Eredivisie goal while playing a ton is pretty damning on the back of that.
OK, you're on. YOU be that "ONE PERSON"* to watch a game and tell us how he performs. Of course, you might have noticed that @Suyuntuy watches some of his games but, well, . . .
