Pitt pulls off the big upset of the night. Pitt beat NC State 2-1! Pitt is now moved into a tie for 8th place with Virginia Tech. Its very possible that Pitts last game of the year vs Virginia Tech could be a play in game to the ACC Tournament. NC State did dominate the games and the shot count but all that matters is the final score.
Does anyone know what the tie breakers are for seeding for the ACC Tournament? There are a lot of teams super close in the standings with 3 games left.
geeze this thread has kind of gone dead lately. Hopefully these last 3 games can bring some life back to it! Big games coming up this week in round 8 of ACC play. Big implications for ACC and NCAA Tournament. The big one: Florida State @ North Carolina The ACC title is on the line in Chapel Hill. Winner is likely ACC regular season champion and locks up the #1 seed for the ACC Tournament. I think UNC wins this one at home! Boston College @ Virginia Tech a lot on the line for both teams. BC trying to claw their way back into the ACC Tournament picture. A win would give them a very small life line. Probably fighting more for a chance of an at large bid in the NCAA's. VT battling to stay a national seed according to several predicted NCAA tournaments. Also in a battle for the ACC Tournament seeding. Seems like VT is in a crash course for a winner take all final regular season game at Pitt Clemson @ Miami Clemson probably has the easiest run of games to close out the season. should be able to climb up the ACC table to feel a bit more secure about the ACC Tournament. That being said Miami is usually good for 1 upset a year. Could this be the one? Louisville @ Virginia Louisville could jump to the 3 seed over Virginia with a win. Both teams battling to stay in the top 4 and host 1st round ACC tourney games. Pitt @ Wake Forest Who would of thought Pitt would be in a position to qualify for the ACC Tournament. Wake will believe they can finally get a win in the ACC with Pitt coming to town. this game has draw written all over it Syracuse vs NC State NC State trying to fight to salvage their season. May be to little to late with last weeks lost to Pitt. I expect either a NC State blow out fighting for their season or a Syracuse upset because NC State is still hung over from the Pitt game Notre Dame vs Duke Notre Dame currently in a good spot but a lose for ND and a win for Clemson, Virginia Tech, Pitt, or NC State will make for a nervy final week of play. They are playing Duke so lets be honest. .. this game is going to end in a draw because that's what Duke does. Come on people lets hear some thoughts? Who is going to get into the ACC Tournament and who will be left looking in from the outside?
I love it! It's very difficult to predict individual game results, especially among closely ranked teams. And, maybe more difficult than usual this year, we won't know whether that's true until the season is over. So, to predict the outcome, plus the winning goal scorer, plus when she'll score it, WOW! If you get this right, you're a stud. Oh, maybe you already are.
my predictions for tonight.. North Carolina - 3 Florida State - 1 UNC with 2 goals off of set pieces and it cost FSU again. Boston College - 2 Virginia Tech - 2 Clemson - 3 Miami - 0 Louisville - 1 Virginia - 2 Pitt - 2 Wake Forest - 1 Syracuse - 1 NC State - 4 Notre Dame - 1 Duke - 1
Blah, the Darth Vaders of women's soccer wins , however it is not the last hope for the Noles. Good game UNC.
I'm not sure it matters much. UNC wanted revenge for the title game last year, but UVa and FSU were always going to be on collision course for the ACC semifinal.
Your right. But regarding the game, UNC should of had a goal or two in the first half, which they dominated. But the second was majority FSU and both UNCs goals were against the run of play.
Amanda West strikes twice for Pitt but it wasn't enough to get the win. that being said she did break the single season point record for pitt and is currently tied for most goals in a season and 1 assist away from tying the single season assist record at Pitt. Not bad for a freshmen. Honestly I think West should be in contention for ACC Freshmen of the year. I don't think she gets as much attention because she is at Pitt. But she does have 10 goals and 8 assists on the season. That means she's responsible for 18 of Pitts goals and that's the most (I think) of anyone in the ACC. I know there are some with a few more goals but West is doing this with a lot less talent around her
Good call on Miami. They play spoiler last night for Clemson, 3-2 in 2OT. Wild that Pitt and Miami find themselves in position to make ACC Tournament. Amanda West, err I mean Pitt, plays Clemson next and will be looking to add insult to injury. I think UNC is just playing at another level now. I have to agree with another commenter on the UNC thread that they look primed for a College Cup showdown with Stanford at this point. Maybe Duke will finally get a win on Sunday. The Blue Devils are in fifth place with a record of 2-0-6 (!?!?!). Wake Forest and NC State keep their seasons alive with wins last night (both also 3-2 OT wins), but are gonna need to dig deep in their last two games and pull off at least one win each. Not looking good for BC, but all of a sudden the Clemson game looks more competitive. Apart from the top 3, this might be the craziest ACC season we've seen in a while, no? The bottom feeders come alive to wreak havoc on the middle of the ACC pack.
Good match last night between UNC and Fla. State. Very competitive. UNC was clearly superior in the first half and could have had a goal (or two). Fla. State was stronger for periods in the second half--until two UNC scored two goals off of turnovers, both beautifully taken goals with the left foot.
This has been a crazy year and its making me excited for the future years of the ACC. Miami, Pitt, and Syracuse have always been he bottom dwellers and kind of the laughing stock of the ACC. They were chalked up as easy wins. Thats not really the case anymore. They are all proving they can at least make a game of any team in the ACC. Next season Randy and Sarah will be going into their 3rd seasons which will likely be their 1st class they had a little time to recruit. Nikki will be going into her 2nd season so may still need another year but she has at least proven she can come up with a gameplay to give her orange a chance in games. If those normal bottom teams become stronger then the ACC is just that much tougher.
This is the second game this year I've watched with Yardley announcing and his disdain for FSU is evident.
This ref looks hungover. No wonder he was late to the game. He physically blocked a WFU player just outside the top of the box and Noles looking a little handsy today and getting away with it.
FSU seemed very lethargic. If they don't turn that energy around, they will make a 2nd round exit from ACCT and 3rd round exit from NCAAT.
Pains me to say, so much so that I couldn't post this in the UNC thread, but congrats Tar Heels. Bah. Humbug.
You must of missed the shoulder check that lead to Wakes first goal and their double take downs of FSU players in the box later in the game The ref was bad.
