The USSF Board of Directors isn't the problem. The USSF is an umbrella group, a voting body, made up of a ton of different interests. The problem with the USMNT is the talent on display, both in terms of coaching and players. That has essentially zero to do with the identity of the USSF CEO. That's the USSF president. That's an elected position. Cordeiro named a good person to be the "technical director" of the USMNT. That was Earnie Stewart. Somebody with experience both in Europe and in MLS. Had served successfully as a general manager of AZ in holland. We were all seemingly happy with the selection. It was Earnie's choice who to interview and hire as USMNT coach. Not frickin' Dan Flynn, who had nothing to do with that process. People keep try to make up scapegoats.
Operationally, USSF is shitting the bed. The field against Uruguay was a farce. Theoretically, I’m sure USSF thought playing the game in St Louis would be good for attendance and thus worth the cost and time to lay sod over the infield. But, for friendlies against non sexy competition we’ve consistently hit less than 20k in attendance, so to expect otherwise with this boring ass team was dumb. Play these games in SSS for goodness sakes.
From what I heard on Counterattack from a journalist close to the situation Ernie's role was to suggest candidates, while the decision makers were Flynn, Cordeiro, and Garber. Not sure if true or not. I really hope the Garber part isn't - he has no business being involved. The main point of the conversation was Ernie didn't really have any decision making power.
I would imagine a CEO must be approved by the Board of Directors. Which means Garber, along with USL reps, players reps, etc., all would have a vote. Carlos Bocanegra has a vote, for examples. Most of these votes are usually somewhat of a rubber stamp -- researched and pre-sold long before it reaches that point. Flynn is a non-voting member. His recommendation likely carries weight, but he doesn't officially select. From what I can tell, part of the Board was ready to rubber stamp Flynn's hand picked successor, but some members wanted to look outside -- including Cordeiro.
Board of Directors: " whew that was close, Clint eastwood to the rescue. Now we can go back to waiting a year, pretend to do a search, and then only to circle back to jay" "are we still using the lack of talent excuse? Yes. Yes, we must." Christian Pulisic (Champions League) Tyler Adams (Champions League) Fabian Johnson (Champions League) Sergino Dest (Champions League) Timothy Weah (Champions League) John Brooks (Europa League) Timothy Chandler (Europa League) Tyler Boyd (Europa League) Deandre Yedlin (EPL) Josh Sargent (Bundesliga) Weston McKennie (Bundesliga) Alfredo Morales (Bundesliga) Zach Steffan (Bundesliga) Jozy Altidore And that's just the core talent.
Look at the part I quoted - I was talking about the coaching hire, not CEO hire. I didn't realize Garber was on the BoD. Not sure that should make him one of 3 decision makers on the manager position though.
Gotcha. The BoD does have final approval on the coach — I would imagine because of the size of contract if nothing else — but it should be the whole BoD.
New media picture post recently with Michael Bradley front and center with the "future is us". Shame on us. We will see how "slowly" Pax Pomykal gets integrated.
Now that is an assumption without evidence. The independence of Earnie Stewart from the governing authority, which includes not only a seasoned operative such as Flynn but also the new generation of operatives such as Berhalter, is something we have no evidence of.
Did you read the NY Times article about how insular the USSF is? Does the BoD bear no responsibility towards how the Federation is managed and how decisions are made? According to ebbro, it wasn't Earnie with the final decision to hire.
Board of Directors Carlos Cordeiro Cindy Parlow Cone Sunil Gulati Chris Ahrens Carlos Bocanegra Lori Lindsey Lindsay Tarpley Snow - Alternate Don Garber Alec Papadakis Richard Moeller John Motta Dr. Pete Zopfi Tim Turney Dan Flynn Mike Cullina Lisa Carnoy Patti Hart
What people should note from that list is the vast majority of them have nothing to do with the USMNT or MLS or even the men's game in any way. For instance, who is Lisa Carnoy? She's Bank of America’s Market President for New York City. Who is Patti Hart? Last I knew she was Vice Chairwoman at International Gaming Technology (a company based in Vegas that manufactures and distributes slot machines and gaming technology). When people talk about the USSF Board of Directors, they need to recognize this. Really want you want from these people is to have them name a technical director.................and then get the hell out of the way.
So being on the board is a BS charity appointment. Which is par for the course for this organization.
It dosent matter. Stop finding excuses. The USMNT locker room is in chaos right now and posters like you stand by and do nothing.
