Absolutely sensational news! I feel bad for Warren but here we are today, the newest MLS franchise, which is really all that matters for Sacramento. The Quakes are an appropriate rival. Obviously, we're going to hate LA Galaxy as well, but we also have a natural rival in Portland. For those of you haven't been to a match at Providence Park, I highly recommend it. It's pretty fukking insane. I hope we can replicate that experience in Sacramento. Long live the Republic!
IIRC, Steinberg was the only one who mentioned him by name, but he did get the appreciation. One name I didn't hear was Joe Wagoner, who also deserves kudos for pitching the idea to Warren in the beginning and helping to lead the organization for most of the past 5 years. Another name I didn't hear was Kevin Johnson, the original cheerleader in chief.
I wouldn’t feel too bad for Warren. He’s making another go of it in an even nicer town down in San Diego
I’d say so. People don’t vacation in OKC year round. People do vacation from OKC to SD year round however
Wow! I posted a huge frustration rant a few months back, with the usual stuff about MLS leading us on, using us as a bargaining chip, etc. It was just a big cathartic outpouring that I needed to get off my chest. But now I'm so stoked that all that ranting was complete nonsense. I was there at the block party, and it was awesome - packed, loud, full of energy and over-the-top celebration. Having been born in Sacramento almost 55 years ago, I couldn't be more proud. Now it's time to get the stadium done, and be ready to take down the 'Quakes, LAFC, and Galaxy!
Wondo signed on for another year with the Quakes and supposedly he has a long term deal to be an academy coach. He moved from Danville out to Los Gatos a few years ago and it is a very expensive area of Santa Clara /Silicon Valley to live in. When you are making $800k a year , you tend not to worry about money. Even though he will probably make a decent salary as a coach between $80-$100k , it will be quite a drop and a change in lifestyle so if Sac comes in with a lucrative deal, I’m sure he would jump at it. I also have some sort of feeling though that either Dom Kinnear, John Doyle, Troy Dayak or Fank Yallop will somehow be involved somewhat with the Republic.
Yeah not sure why Preki left. I remember reading Thomas Rongen‘a Facebook post that Preki left because of family issues but I think it was more about the uncertainty of Sac going to MLS anytime soon...
I'm pretty sure he thought he had an EPL head coaching job lined up (Leicester maybe?), but then that all fell apart and we had #wherespreki going strong on Twitter until he showed up in Saint Louis. https://twitter.com/search?q=#wherespreki
I think Dom , Dayak and Doyle all live close by.....Frank may be an outcast though.... Hopefully the Republic will have some people in there who won’t want those guys around but knowing Doyle, he will probably use his Mustang Academy as Sac's new youth club. He milked it with the Quakes for 9 years so I wouldn’t put it past him....
Good, they can place their STH deposit here: https://www.mls2sac.com/join-our-republic/ But NOTHING MORE!!!
Sacramento's MLS ownership group missed a deadline to submit signed expansion agreement and make a payment on $200 million expansion fee.Update on NWSL efforts, too. They're not alone in wanting to bring a women's team to NorCal. New @TheAthleticSCCR: https://t.co/2uJYADaQFp— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) January 9, 2021 I'm heading back to the Doom Ledge.
