We have had a couple of weeks marinating. its time for a mega thread for our offseason. The Coachbot 9000 Crew Soccer Show was the hottest show of 2019! It captivated audiences with its story of a brave band of heroes struggling with not only the villainous Don Garber and his followers, collectively known as E.V.I.L, but also against themselves. Key characters suffered perils. The massive roster of characters gave depth! New faces, and old ones made appearances. In a incredible season finale, it was revealed that due to the manipulation of E.V.I.L, Coachbot 9000 and his Crew failed their primary objective. However, while the season finished with failure, all was not lost. There is hope for our heroes still. Going into the much anticipated season 2, set to debut in the spring window, there are several questions that need resolved. Will coachbot 9000 receive upgrades? will we sign a big time big name player way past his prime? will E.V.I.L. continue their dastardly tactics in an attempt to once again foil our heroes? Will the heroes show growth and learn from their failures? Find out, on the explosive season 2 of the Coachbot 9000 Crew Soccer Show!
Bez needs to blow up the roster. We will see what happens with acquisitions and the expansion draft choices.
That seemed to be inevitable. I would imagine that decision has been decided for months. Thank you, Higs, for your tenure with Crew. Wish you well in your next endeavor. Edit: That Thank You video... what neat memories. Seven years.
After 2017 and 2018, I feel like I need to go through some sort of reeducation course to remember just how to function and get through a normal off season. Besides roster developments, as far as the Crew are concerned, I sense I'll just spend hour after hour watching the stadium construction cam. Or, you know, maybe try to get a life and enjoy focusing on some non-crew stuff for a while.
Same here. My life is spending time with my wife and daughter which I never get enough time for. Every other waking minute this winter = stadium cam and transfer rumors. That's an exaggeration, but I do have a lot of downtime at work...
Bezbatchenko said the lease with the city of Obetz for the current #Crew96 training ground expires at the end of the year and right now it is more than likely the team will train elsewhere in central Ohio in 2020.— Patrick Murphy (@_Pat_Murphy) October 21, 2019
I'll bet it will be at Mapfre for now. Don't be surprised if one of the new fields there is built early.
Eh, I'd heard they really wanted the land for something else and were ready to move on. At best, it was only going to be another two years anyway.
2 years ago today we dreamed big. Today, we are thankful that we have accomplished big. Thanks to @Save_The_Crew and everyone who made our dream a reality. Go Columbus and go Columbus Crew! #Crew96 pic.twitter.com/RkYHd8OceD— DrPeteEdwards (@DrPeteEdwards1) October 23, 2019 Two years ago today, gang. What a difference...
That's my take as well. They tried to extort some very rich people. If they had been.willing to play nice I bet they could have gotten some nice stuff: improvements, money, some youth athletic facilities, whatever. But they're stupid, small-time petty politicians who figured they had the Ceveland Browns.over a barrel. What they missed is that money always has options.
Honestly Obetz sucks we need a better area . when the new stadium opens we will train at Mapfre correct ? so just do a lil double duty at Mapfre or go to Dublin or something The new stadium plans to have real grass ? I assume that is the plan but we have seen stadiums have issues in the Midwest where grass doesn’t do so well. My thought is we would want it to be similar to the grass at Mapfre which is immaculate
Yes, the new place will have grass. There's some tradeoff between a roof that protects the front row of seats and one that allows the grass to grow well all the way to the sidelines.
Yeah, this could be interesting. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see field turf around the edges as you see a lot of places. Could also require one of those rolling racks of grow lights. The main playing surface will not get as much sunlight as Mapfre does, no doubt about that.
I have a feeling that Obetz doesn't care. It wasn't going to be a long term arrangement anyway, with training moving to Mapfre after the new stadium opens. That's mid-2021--less than two years from now. Doubt the Crew would have spent much money on Obetz anyway, under those circumstances. No point in it.
I've heard rumors that a few larger local soccer tournaments will be moving to "The Fortress" from other locations around the city. Nothing like a few thousand soccer families to help local businesses out.
