Great game between Red Stars and Thorns. I tuned in late and there was no freakin' sound on the Yahoo broadcast. Red Stars rallied from an 87' deficit (dumb penalty by Naughton that resulted in a Thorns PK and 4-3 lead), scoring at the 90' mark to equalize and nearly scoring in stoppage time to win it--a shot off the crossbar!
There's been an indication in France that Sam Kerr will be leaving the Red Stars after the season for Chelsea -- and a $1 million contract. I don't know whether I should believe it or not.
As a 10-year Red Stars Season Ticket Holder, I of course don't want her to leave, but making that kind of money may be a once in a lifetime opportunity, to set herself up for life. Something to think about.
Wednesday morning, WGN news reported that the Red Stars had received a bump as a result of the WWC coverage, more than doubling their usual number of tickets sold. Sorry, no link...I was up at 4:30am (don't ask) and saw it live.
From my understanding they have opened up parts of the other side of the stadium, the lower bowl for the 7/21 game against NC. This game will be their biggest attended of the year and maybe ever (not counting DH with the Fire).
From Red Stars Twitter: WE ARE BREAKING RECORDS We’ve already surpassed the largest attendance record for a women’s pro soccer match in Chicago for this game. Highly recommend you secure your tickets NOW to be there for this match.🎟️: https://t.co/jeQmpUYvJ8 pic.twitter.com/oMKPQ2DD2u— Chicago Red Stars (@chicagoredstars) July 12, 2019
