    2019/20 Matchday 4 headlines

Barça win again, but could've gone behind when a penalty wasn't given to Sevilla. Oshoala came off the bench to score late:

    Sevilla FC 0 - 2 FC Barcelona
    Jenni Hermoso 39', Oshoala 87'

    - Match report: Goal.com. Full game was streamed by Sevilla.

Deportivo are in second place with a win at Athletic Bilbao! New in the top division, are they for real?

    Athletic 0 - 2 Deportivo La Coruña
María Méndez 44, Gabriela García 83'

Atlético Madrid got their ship somewhat back on course, with a win to take third place:

Atlético de Madrid - EDF Logroño (2-0)
Laia Aleixandri 37', Silvia Meseguer 58'

I think Oshoala was seen as having failed at Arsenal in 2016, and she only got 3 goals in 11 games. Maybe it led Barça to think she wasn't ready for the big time.

[IMG] She dominated the Chinese league, CWSL, impressively – not the same level as Spain, but the signs were there. As an indicator of Oshoala's game-changing power, her ex-club Dalian were Chinese champions 3 years running, they lost her, and have just been relegated. "One-woman team" is unfair (they'd won the 2016 title without her) but OMG

I'm more worried for Atlético, that 6-1 loss and their result against the Serbian champs. We all know Spartak Subotica have more power than they admit, but the Spanish champions shouldn't be almost losing to them... should they?!

[IMG] Oh yeah, I forgot we do the Spain WNT here too! ... Poland will be the main test in Euro qualifying (12 Nov), but first up were Azerbaijan and Czech Republic:

[IMG] Atlético Madrid's coach is gone, José Luis Sánchez Vera quitting for personal reasons. He'll stay with the club as an analyst. Pablo López becomes the new coach after working at a few Madrid men's clubs.

[IMG] It's matchday 5 now. Atlético had a vital game on Saturday at Levante - and the full match is online for the time being.
The other Saturday game was Deportivo La Coruña v Rayo Vallecano, and their 3-0 win means that Deportivo sit top of the table prior to Sunday. In the Sunday matches, Barça are playing Betis, and it's the Basque derby, Sociedad-Athletic, which will hopefully be a big occasion.

Hey, are there any sites that show these games outside of Spain? I tried to watch the Deportivo vs Huelva match, but they said I had to be in Spain to watch it. My VPN did not fool the website either.

If there are no websites that is cool, but I thought I would ask.

I usual stick with you tube even though most games are on delay, this link shows all the full games for the last week(it might also have other sports) from the Spanish Primera
    primera division femenina - YouTube

that's an impressive list as I can't find anything from the French League

Matchday 5 and the Basque derby, that's quite a crowd...

    Real Sociedad 0 - 2 Athletic Bilbao
    Nekane 2', María Díaz 90' (att: 28,367)
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcgG0NWAOeo
    [IMG]

    [IMG][IMG] Sporting Huelva 0 - 1 Barcelona (Oshoala 29')
    Highlights: https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/news...va-0-1-fc-barcelona-victory-against-adversity

Another impressive result for Huelva, who've now held the past season's top 2 to a single goal each, despite sitting in 15th place, after the hard escape from relegation in 2018/19.

These 2 have sunk shockingly: Betis to 13th place, and Espanyol to the bottom of the league, 16th.

    Espanyol 2 - 2 Real Betis (pink)
    Szymanowski og 46', Débora 81' - Piemonte 28’, Bea Parra 82'
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9i2A0p4gLw
    [IMG]

    Matchday 6

And that makes three, Huelva's habit of losing exactly 1-0 to the top teams – but they can't buy a goal...

Sporting Huelva 0 - 1 Deportivo La Coruña
    Alba Merino 57'
    Highlights: http://www.teleonuba.es/el-sporting-de-huelva-agudiza-su-crisis-ante-el-deportivo-0-1
    [IMG]

    Rayo Vallecano 3 - 2 Valencia
    Paula Fernández 67', Altuve 75'p, 92'p - Mari Paz 40', Carol Férez 50'
    http://ellassonfutbol.com/cronica-rayo-vallecano-vs-valencia-cf-2/
Rayo reach 6th place as Valencia lost a 2-0 lead. Due to the TV dispute, highlights weren't released. Only this exciting picture of a "refereeing error"

    [IMG]

As Atlético Madrid beat Madrid CFF 1-0, Barça stayed in 1st place, forcing their authority on a Logroño team that's risen to 5th.

    [IMG][IMG] Barcelona 5 - 0 EDF Logroño
    Marta Torrejón 4′, Jenni Hermoso 23′, Aitana 25′, Oshoala 51′, Hamroui 81′
    Highlights: https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/videos/1460699/highlights-barca-women-5-edf-logrono-0

Deportivo are 2nd on goal difference, Atlético 3rd a point behind, then a full 5pts back it's Levante, Logroño and Rayo.

A strike wouldn't be such a surprise – the Real Tacón-Madrid team have been on a go-slow for the past several weeks.
(Or was that the Veracruz men's team, I forget.)

The main off-field story this season had been the Spanish TV rights clash between Mediapro and the non-contracted clubs. But apparently the players' unions have been negotiating for a year and it's come to this.

[IMG][IMG] It may also affect the UWCL on Wednesday 30 Oct:
"Any strike action could have an impact on the UEFA Women's Champions League competition, including Manchester City's last-16 tie with Atletico Madrid next week." - (BBC News)

So, the thread can now go to Breaking News Strike Mode, lots of exciting/boring live coverage of... a strike, if not the strike

There've been reports since June 2019 of a deal with Uefa.tv to stream Spanish women's games, but none have appeared yet.
Today Palco23.com reported the deal was in limbo because of similar issues to the Spanish TV dispute.

It's neither happy nor sad - it's probably necessary, if the players' unions feel relations broke down, and the clubs feel they can't sign a working agreement.

It looks like matchday 7 this Saturday and Sunday (26-27 Oct) will go ahead, with games including Sociedad v Atlético Madrid, but the strike described as 'indefinite' might cancel the games on 2-3 Nov and Atlético's UWCL match, depending on when the players can meet the clubs' association - either today or Monday. SPEEDY RESOLUTION PLZ! Here's another strike picture, to speed things along.

Correct - the players aren't on strike yet. I've just been posting random photos for drama reasons.

The crucial meeting of players and clubs is scheduled for Monday 28 Oct (10.30 CET) at the Spanish mediator, Fundación SIMA.

[IMG] That means Atlético's Champions League 2nd leg (30 Oct) is safe, and the matchday 8 weekend (2-3 Nov) is probably safe because, RTVE reports, the players' unions have a 5-day notice period if a strike is called on Monday. FIFpro has "strongly" backed the action.

    Matchday 7 schedule
    Saturday and Sunday (CET)

    RCD Espanyol - Athletic Bilbao 26-10-2019 12:00
Real Sociedad - At. Madrid Femenino

what is going on with Tacon? Another loss despite it's apparent all star lineup. If league standings stay as is, they'll be demoted. Even my trusty soccerway website don't like them as them prefers to call them 'heel'(bad guy term in pro wrestling) lol

I was first thinking Navarro was the high flying winger of Spain's famed youth team, but it's someone different as the original plays for Levante

Well, that's the literal translation of the word Tacón from Spanish to English: in Spanish tacón literally means heel. :)

    Levante UD 3 - 2 Sevilla FC
    Gemma Gili 25', 36', Maite og 40' - Nadya Karpova 70', Isabella Echeveri 76'
Another match falls victim to TV restrictions (or maybe it's only Levante's home games?). Match report here (Archived)

    Valencia CF 2 - 0 Granadilla Tenerife
Carol Férez 13', Zenatha Coleman 93'
Valencia now in 7th place. Tenerife are another falling star – 2018/19's fourth-placers are down to 12th now. Valencia's win is online in full, maybe... Match report here (Archived)

Logroño stay 5th with their win:

    EDF Logroño 3 - 0 Sporting Huelva
Chini Pizarro 8', Jade Boho 20', Barbra Banda 76'
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kYdbwMqApw
    [IMG]

Another win for Deportivo to stay 2nd. I suppose these Real Madrid players will probably improve... I just feel sorry for them that they've been on the stupid Hype Train.

Deportivo La Coruña 3 - 1 Real Madrid de Tacón
Gaby García 22', Alba Merino 33', María Méndez 42' - Chioma Ibogagu 65'
    Highlights: https://www.rcdeportivo.es/noticia/el-depor-abanca-suma-y-sigue-ante-el-cd-tacon-3-1

In the table, only goal difference separates Barcelona/Deportivo, 19pts - then it's Atlético Madrid 18, Levante/Logroño 13, and Athletic Bilbao 12.

oh wow, you ARE joking aren't you..?

Real Madrid Women's Team Drop Club Logo After 9-1 Loss to Barcelona
    https://www.footyheadlines.com/2019...op-club-logo-after-9-1-loss-to-barcelona.html

Awful stuff from this club. Their owners clearly thought women's football would be easy with minimal effort, and now they're like "Lol, it's not my team, lol!".
    Ego is a terrible thing.

Until this year, I thought Real Madrid was just a fictional club that people on here talked about a lot :D Like "Melchester Rovers", or the "Orlando Pride".

Unchanged by the strike, Spain's match in Poland will be played on 12 November, an important Euro qualifier. At the Spain squad announcement, the coach Jorge Vilda had some very interesting views on the strike:

"We understand the positions of the players and also that of the clubs. We are convinced that an agreement will soon be reached because there are a lot of grays between black and white. And in a nuance of those grays, they surely find a point of agreement"

Time for exciting matchday 8! The last league games before the strike :eek:

Before we say "hasta luego", there are table-topping clashes on Sunday, with all of the top 4 involved, Barça v Levante, and Atlético Madrid v Deportivo, although the 5th-place Logroño could get a headstart with a win today. Asllani, Jakobsson and van Dongen have a crucial matchup too – Real Madrid-Tacón (14th) v Real Betis (13th), a chance to rise in the table.

    Matchday 8 schedule
    Saturday and Sunday (CET)

    EDF Logroño - Madrid CFF 02-11-2019 11:00
    Sevilla FC - Real Sociedad 02-11-2019 12:00
    Rayo Vallecano - RCD Espanyol 03-11-2019 11:00
