Oh, yeah! It's always difficult to me to get used to the fact that in Spain a lot of players (and Japanese ones in particular) are indicated with the first name and not with the family name! So I often miss their names. :x3:

The same happened to me whan I was searching for the players in the team's websites, Maya is a common name outside Japan.

The PK was a dive and it happened outside of the box. I thought it was a genuine penalty due to the reaction - or lack thereof - from the Nittaidai defenders. But I had a look at it again and she just fell over and got a penalty. But nobody complained - not even a little bit! Beleza do not need any help playing against Nittaidai.

Nittaidai will be better off in the second division, though they have enough good players to probably get promoted again. If Fuka Kono goes down with them I will be interested to see how many goals she gets. I am merely speculating, but if she scores a lot I wonder if she will get called up for Nadeshiko?

Nittaidai actually defended much deeper against Beleza this match, which made it more difficult for Beleza to break them down.

But in the end it was a very easy win for Beleza.

I enjoyed the other match between INAC and Urawa. It was a good even match and I think Urawa were a bit unlucky to lose. But that is how it goes in football.

    Just a thought....
When she was taken to WWC 2019 didn't play and was seen 'coaching' from the sideline I wondered at the time if she had only been taken to prepare her for some future JFA role.
It's just speculation as I don't even know if she has taken any coaching badges.
Either way it would be a dark day if we are never to see her kick a ball 'in anger' again.
Perhaps she could start a new trend and announce her retirement from international football (if that is her intention)
Players do it in other countries.I am in favour as it gives the media an excuse to write about the players international contribution and rounds things off nicely.....just one fans opinion

I went back and looked at the "naming of the world cup squad press conference" and based on what Takakura said she chose Sakaguchi because she thought she was fit and able to play. Sakaguchi had been checked by medical staff and she was ready to go and that her play would only improve. She also said that she had lots of experience which would help.

The fact that nobody in the media questioned the selection further was what rankled me. Because as you know she had not started a match for Beleza all year at that point.

Anyway, it looks like she was back to full fitness for the world cup, but has sustained an injury since then. What kind of injury? Who knows? Because it could be unrelated to her knee.

I just wish teams would report injuries to their players more often.

Agreed.....why all the 'cloak and dagger' when it comes to player fitness, injury, illness etc . Do the clubs think this imformation is just not newsworthy?

As it's been mentioned recently by someone else on this thread, the problem is probably that Japanese laws about privacy are more strict (or more strictly applied) when it comes to players' health.

This was a very important win for Orca. Now, with 16 match played, the situation is:

    35 Ehime FC Ladies
    31 Orca Kamogawa FC
    30 Chifure AS Elfen Saitama
    29 Cerezo Osaka Sakai Ladies

    Quite exciting fight! :geek:

Sfida Setagaya FC have a game in hand to these teams, but they really needed a win today; they're now at 22: with a win today and another in the catch-up match vs Bunnys, they would have reached 28 and they could have been still considered in contention. Now, instead, with two match-days to go, thay can reach 31 points at max, so they basically need all the teams ahead of them to always lose :x3:: not even sure what happens should they manage to finish level with Orca (their best possible chance); at the moment, goal difference is vastly in Orca's favour.

    International update:

    - it now makes more sense that Saki Kumagai was rested by OL in their latest league game vs Paris FC, because yesterday Saki played the full game in the Women's Champions' League away game that Olympique Lyonnais won by 0-4 vs Fortuna Hjørring (braces by Hegerberg and Le Sommer). At the beginning of the season, I was afraid that Kumagai was falling from grace with the new coach: it looks like he's instead quite wisely managing the boatload of stars he has in his roster, by rotating them often and giving some substantial playing time to everyone of them. :coffee:

Nojima is confirmed as the team that never draws! :x3: they have 6 wins and 9 losses so far out of 15 games in this season's Nadeshiko League.

Ami Sugita is now at 5 goals scored in the league... in just two match-days: she had an hat-trick in a 4-0 win vs JEF eralier this season, at the 3rd match-day, and then today's brace; nothing in between. :giggle: (Although she scored another lonely goal in Nadeshiko League Cup).

Too little too late from JEF, I'd say. A win tomorrow by INAC vs Beleza would maybe give them some slight chance to get back in contention for the title, but only assuming that they're able to win their catch-up match vs Beleza too and that Urawa somehow stumble along the way.

Very interesting score, in a promotion perspective! Now Orca Kamagawa, with a win tomorrow vs Yamato Sylphid, can get at just one point from Ehime, setting up for a super-duper exciting Ehime-Orca direct clash at the very last match day!!! :geek: In the interest of the show, I hope for this kind of outcome, although a draw tomorrow could be enough for Orca's hopes: They'd remain three points behind this way, but their goal difference is vastly superior to Ehime's and it's not like they shouldn't anyway win the last match vs Ehime.

This is very disappointing from Chifure instead: they could have fought for the first place too, had they won today vs Bunnys, but now they have no chance to be directly promoted and they have to hope that Orca drop points tomorrow and/or vs Ehime next week.

On the other hand, this is a golden point for Bunnys: points earned when at the bottom of the rankings and vs superior opponents weight a lot in the fight to avoid relegation. Now, they're one point ahead of Yamato Sylphid, that, as mentioned above, have to face Orca tomorrow in what's become a "must win" match for Kamogawa's side. Can Yamato manage to gain that single point that would keep them level with Bunnys?

There's no doubt that tomorrow's Orca Kamogawa FC vs Yamato Sylphid will be a key match both for promotion and relegation. :geek:

Edit: oh, (partially) scratch that: I was forgetting that there are a lot of postponed match still to play in Division 2. Orca still have an away match vs AS Harima Albion to go ahead of Ehime, and Bunnys have to play away vs Sfida Setagaya. :x3:

    Crunch weekend

Thank goodness these games are starting before the Brave Blossoms mega game or I suspect there would be no-one there.

Must win games for both reds and greens.
(at least we are not just watching another 'green' runaway season)

Yes, don't know what has got me: Orca have of course already played with Harima Albion and they drew by 0-0.

Can't wait for tomorrow's game and for the final clash Ehime-Orca. :geek:

Wow, many players (some of them veteran old-timers) at their first goal in the league this season, with just two match-days to go, and some of these goals were very important ones.

Kaede Sato's one, for instance, was very important to keep Nittaidai behind: Nittaidai, with an away win, could have surpassed Vegalta (although Vega Ladies would have had anyway a match in hand to them) and could have kept alive the hope to avoid direct relegation. With this win, Vegalta go ahead of Nagano and Nittaidai are very close to be directly relegated in Division 2 (although some combination of results could save them in the pair of match-days ahead).

Chinatsu Kira manages to keep Urawa three points ahead of Beleza (although Beleza keep having the match vs JEF in hand). What will happen if the two teams will finish even at 1st place? Is maybe the whole league decided on goal difference (this would mean Beleza winning, since their goal difference is currently at +14 to Urawa)? Does anyone know for sure what the tie-breaker is? :cautious:

But of course the most important match was the clasico: Miyabi Moriya (I guess it's not too long that she's back from an injury) scored at 3' and Beleza had to trail for most of the game. They equalized at 64' and Riko Ueki scored the winner at 90'+2' only!!! You can't really say that Ueki didn't make her presence count, in this league, after she was back from injury; on the contrary, it looks like she's a key-player for the Green Machine, and I can't wait to see her back in NT (hopefully including Olympic Games).

Of course I missed it, since I am a sleepy-head in this phase of my life and Nadeshiko League match happen early in the morning for me in Italy. How was it? Tell me something, please.

Anyway, Beleza's win eliminates INAC (and JEF, for records) from contention: with two match-days to go, now the title can officilly go to Urawa or to Beleza only. :ninja:

Wow, Yamato are really fighting nails and teeth to avoid relegation!!! They manage to draw vs Orca, so they remain level with Bunnys, with a marginally better goal difference (+2 to them), although Bunnys have a game in hand (vs Setagaya).

This result means that Orca will have to win the away match vs Ehime to catch up with them.

Meanwhile, though, Cerezo resoundingly won their match vs already relegated Shizuoka and their goal difference is now level with Orca's! This means that, if next week Orca win vs Ehime and Cerezo win their away game vs Sfida Setagaya, we could have a triple-tie at the top at 35 points!!!:eek::eek:
I have to ask once again: will the goal difference be the tie-breaker? :cautious:

Anyway, there's no doubt that Chifure were the big losers of this match-day: now they don't have any shot at direct promotion and they can reach the promotion play-off only if both Orca and Cerezo don't win their respective matches.

Meanwhile, if last time Cerezo had mostly scored with their U-20 World Champions, this time it's less haralded players giving them the win, including a recently inserted one in Ladies' roster (Serika Takawa). Only name in common with 4 goals from last week is Miyu Yakata.
Cerezo Ladies somehow woke up late, in the season, but right now they even have a shot at direct promotion!
