Best coach available; never was the main criteria. He's a puppet for the intertwined establishment. And he speaks Engliski, right Tata?
What modest success the USMNT enjoyed under Bora, Sampson, Arena, Bradley and even Klinsmann was never due to talent or stylish play. What made us punch above our weight was hustle, team spirit, swagger and a realistic, even cynical style of play. We recognized that we could never match up against strong opponents and play to their strengths. Instead it was bunker and counter with speed and surprise. The present team has a fatal lack of hustle on the field and arrogant and terrible coaching. The Berhalter brothers need to go and that is just the start. Our teams from 1990-2010 had tremendous heart and were far more than the sum of their parts. These last 4 years have been an insult to our flag. Self-dealing corruption has replaced self-sacrifice.
I completely disagree with you, but that’s the whole point. Berhalter is completely beyond the pale, no matter your viewpoint.
The thing that just blows my mind is that Jay Berhalter is going to be named CEO of USSF despite: The men’s national team missing a World Cup and showing no sign whatsoever of improving. Showing little regard for the women’s team in this lawsuit instead of just figuring something out. Running such a toxic work environment that numerous people talked with the New York Times. Being part of a non-existent hiring process that ultimately saw his brother get hired. At any organization with a shred of accountability, he would likely be fired. But since USSF doesn’t care a bit about success, he will get a promotion. F*** up, move up indeed.
I was disappointed with the hire but willing to wait and see. Well I've seen what I needed to, and surely everyone else has. Ridiculous.
I’m seriously discouraged by the conflict of interest at the heart of the US Soccer federation. We can expect no reasonable and genuine hot seat for the head coach of the USMNT with the embarrassing way it is structured at the moment.
Why bring them back? JUST HIRE SOMEONE NEW who has the experience and the results and then stay the f*ck out of his way.
Canada looked sharper, completed their passes, won more 50/50 balls, attacked with purpose. Hard for me to blame GGG’s system when American players are sleepwalking. Sir Ian Darke made a comment that this is consistent with how they played away games in the failed WC qualifying campaign. He’s right. Why are they dog sh** when playing away? Is it the rigors of travel? Fly them first class. Is it that they want to sleep in their own beds? Surely, we can ship their beds to Toronto for a few nights. Are they going out and getting drunk the night before? Post a chaperone to keep watch at the hotel. WTF is the problem?
BULLSHIT. Just another excuse to allow Michael Bradley and the Berhalters to fail to qualify us for 2022. Don Garber Loves your post.
jjjjjjjjjjjjjj NOBODY WANTS TO PLAY FOR THIS CORRUPT CABAL. Except Michael Bradley because he is part of it.
The man who will make the decision on Gregg Berhalter’s future as USMNT coach (Earnie Stewart) is very likely to soon report to ... Jay Berhalter, Gregg’s brother. US Soccer, everybody.— Subscribe to GrantWahl.com (@GrantWahl) October 16, 2019 LMAO why would Jesse Marsch take the USMNT job right now when he's killing it at Red Bull (NY/Leipzig/Salzburg)? Maybe, MAYBE, if we're lucky, Jesse would be willing to take over in 2023, for the 2026 WC cycle....
Fun Fact: Canada (6: Laryea, Cornelius, Miller, Kaye, Piette, Osorio) actually started more MLS players than the US (5: Long, Lovitz, Bradley, Roldan, Morris) in this game, so you can't really blame MLS players for this one. Hell they managed to win 2-0 despite their only good MLS player, Kaye, leaving with an injury like five minutes in. Not only that, but Canada's golden boy Alphonso Davies was developed in MLS, whereas USMNT golden boy Pulisic was not. And Berhalter actually gave the US a bit of a chance by not starting two of his favorite garbage MLS players because he knows them from his Crew days (Zardes and Trapp), whereas Canada's defense consisted of a Philly Union reject who is both old and slow (Vitoria), another who spent most of his MLS career with Orlando City and now plays maybe half the time for Toronto (Laryea), and two guys who could only manage a dozen or so games for Orlando City (Miller) and Vancouver (Cornelius)... and the US could barely get off a decent shot!
Some of us thought it was a mistake (both sides, but especially Klinsmann who is a narcissistic motivational speaker / fraud / grifter) at the time... but does that make us easy to dismiss "knee jerk fans"? Oh and plenty of people have questioned Berhalter not only from when he was hired, but from even BEFORE he was hired (since US Soccer waited almost a freaking year for the dude)... but hey Tata Martino "didn't speak English well enough" so here we are... Saying you're not "knee jerk" is like Joe Walsh bragging that he now sees just how horrific T***p is... sorry dude you don't get any credit when it's been crystal clear since 2015.
Bethalter has never been a success. He got run out of Europe and was a mid level coach in MLS without winning trophies. He has never proven himself enough to deserve this much slack. There is no reason he is not at fault for to this. If you take a chance on a guy like that, you have to keep him on a short leash. Gregg's been set loose and it is a disaster. Oh, but we looked good against Cuba.
So the top players at the 2010 World Cup when the US won their group for the first time ever, Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, Howard, Cherundolo, Bocanegra, etc. etc. were foreign born?? Wow I had no idea...
