It seems that Marc Wilmots officially signed 3 years contract with IFF and he is the new coach. Best of luck to him. https://www.ilna.ir/بخش-ورزشی-7/766360-قرارداد-سرمربی-جدید-تیم-ملی-فوتبال-ایران-امضا-شد https://www.dhnet.be/sports/footbal...ectionneur-de-l-iran-5ce54654d8ad58072abb104e https://www.bbc.com/afrique/sports-48365617 https://www.eurosport.fr/football/wilmots-signe-officiellement-avec-l-iran_sto7285724/story.shtml
Marc Wilmots appointed as new Iran head coach officially by signing three and half years contract in federation today. His assistants are one coach from Spain, two coaches from Belgium, and a french goal keeper coach. Vahid Hashemian is appointed as one of his assistant coaches as well which was a very smart decision IMO. Not only he knows all players well, he also speaks German fluently same as Marc Wilmots. https://www.mosalasonline.com/بخش-ورزشی-3/37124-فیلم-امضای-قرارداد-رسمی-فدراسیون-فوتبال-با-مارک-ویلموتس http://ffiri.ir/fa/news/2185/گزارش-تصویری-از-مراسم-معارفه-سرمربی-تیم-ملی-فوتبال
Personally I do not expect miracle from Marc Wilmots. My main expectations from him are watching all players both domestics and non-domestics and trying his best to improve the weaknesses we had with previous coach. I have no issue with defensive minded approach for some games as long as our team knows how to keep the possession of the ball and attack when we get the ball and also know what to do if we concede the first goal which were not the case with previous coach. The previous coach used wrong players in the wrong positions such as using physical central forwards as wingers instead of creative wingers and this was one of the most important reasons we had trouble to play offensively whenever we had to. The upcoming friendly games especially the friendly game with South Korea are excellent opportunity to use them improve in those departments as much as possible.
Iran's squad for upcoming friendlies with Syria and South Korea: http://www.persianfootball.com/news/2019/05/30/wilmots-announces-first-iran-squad/ Ashkan Dejagah and Saman Ghoddos were not called up because they recently recovered from injury and Marc Wilmots did not want to risk on them. Sardar Azmoun will be rested for upcoming friendlies with Syria and South Korea due to minor injury according to http://ffiri.ir/fa/news/2235/حضور-آزمون-در-اردوی-تیم-ملی-عکس. Although he can can play but Marc Wilmots along with his coaching staff do not want to risk on his health same as Dejagah and Ghoddos. As a result, Ali Alipour got called up yesterday. Hossein Hosseini has been called up to replace Rashid Mazaheri as well.
