Just confirmed by the FA, such a ridiculous decision to make for what was a 16 year old boy - if they followed every academy player in the country there would be so many suspensions. Slap on the wrist and a telling off was all that was needed

I disagree. 16 is old enough to realise that calling anyone, let alone the England captain and somebody Elliott could one day play alongside, is an idiotic thing to do. Rightly or wrongly, I can understand the very fact he insulted Kane as sport is an emotional rollercoaster from a fans perspective and it will have just been an emotional reaction. However, to do it on social media as somebody soon moving to a huge club and with aspirations and the potential to one day become famous, there was always the risk it would come back to bite him. I think we also have to consider that part of the FA's new blueprint with developing players is to produce grounded, responsible, educated human beings and not just talented footballers. I can therefore understand their tough stance and desire to try and stamp this sort of behaviour out by sending a strong message.
Nothing wrong with the punishment. Could be less strict, but it's hardly a really strong one. Main issue for me is it being publicised. They should've just kept it between them and Liverpoo. 16 year old doesn't need this out in the open. Not just for negative attention, the whole news cycle trying to justify or critique the decision isn't helpful.
I would prefer the FA have no kind of remit to act as social media morality police in the first place, personally.
It is unfortunate but whether we like it or not social media is part of the whole footballing landscape that clubs and The FA have to take into consideration and the consequences that come from behavioural issues and backlashes. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth how far they go back like Choudhury (?) but I don't think any punishment from these is majorly OTT. As long as they consistent about it all is my only issue. We all make mistakes and say inappropriate things so hopefully they learn from it. I like the fact that our young players must know they have responsibilities no matter the age. Growing up to be responsible and grounded can only be a good thing.
