They lost 1-2 at home and seem poised to continue their run of losses into the red zone, and looking as bad as Stoke (still better than the Terriers, though). Matt's hamstring still not fit, it seems.
May the losses continue until Miazga's back on the field ... ... and he returns once more to save the day.

Quick review of Championship Yanks in the EFL Cup: - Miazga/Reading (played 90') out in the R32 after losing to EPL team Wolves in shots from the spot = honorable exit. - CCV/Stoke (played 27') out in the R32 after losing to League Two club Crawley Town in shots from the spot = not good. - Holmes/Derby (played 90') out in the R50 after losing to fellow Ch'ship club Nottingham Forest 3-0 = ouch. - Cameron/QPR (injured) out in the R50 after losing at home 0-2 to League One club Portsmouth = ouch. - Lichaj/Hull (injured) out in the R50 after losing in shots from the spot to fellow Ch'ship club Preston = fine exit. - Ream/Fulham (saved for league games) out in the R50 after losing at home 0-1 to EPL club Southampton = fine exit. - Robinson/Wigan (saved for league games) out in the R70 after losing at home to fellow Ch'ship club Stoke 0-1 = not good. With Newcastle also out, the only Yanks left still in the EFL Cup are Pulisic and Gooch (they just beat Sheffield from the EPL and are in the R16 facing another League One club; the bad side of it is that Gooch did not play).
Sunderland's focus is on promotion - Gooch not playing in this mostly-useless cup is a positive rather than a negative.
Normally I'd agree, but in this case a League One team beat an EPL one, and away, so it's always nice being part of that.
Miazga had a really nice match, at least statistically. 96 minutes, 51/54 passing (94%), 7/7 (100%) accurate long balls, 3 clearances, 3/4 aerial duels won, just one foul, made his PK. True that Wolves were starting some of their backups, but they were also starting some of their main players. About as good as you could ask from Miazga for a return from injury to an away match vs a Premier League side.
You're like footie fan with a Risk obsession... "I'll take all my armies and attack... Spain!" Like finding our Jari, I do hope some day you get another Serie A starlet for your bingo card!
I am impressed by his never-say-never attitude. We need more of that! (And some of our guys have EU passports!)
Well, we got Nova in Italy and Moore in Spain for now. And if Mexico manages to send a few their way, why not us?
The good news is that since we got 7 guys in the Ch'ship, all in different teams, at worst 4 won't be relegated.
Miazga is a dual nat, with a Polish passport. There are no restrictions on him within the EU and the wider EEA.
It seems that Reading's lousy start to the season has had the inevitable result, with the coach being sacked. Unlikely to have a significant impact on Matt, unless the new coach decides to switch to a traditional back four.
