He was doing well in the period up until his most recent injury, has struggled since then.

It is highly frustrating how many German players seem to constantly get injured. Selke needs a good full pre-season this summer and then to stay fit and sharp for a lengthy period. Then we will be able to see his true potential. Otherwise he will become another wasted striker talent.

was expected tbh after preseason and Cup that Selke starts the 1st match of the new season on the bench, along with Kopke.

and even more reason why I think the German dev of strikers is the most important one (besides increase in desire for dribbling/1v1). When our senior pool is pretty shallow and then from that shallow pool, benchers............

with Waldschmidt getting a call up faster than Selke ever did since he's still at 0 call ups. Wonder if his chances are winding down? Still a bencher for Hertha and in a few years there should be even more German striker option emerging from younger age groups. Seems like Waldshmidt's performance last season+U21 Euro convinced Low as well as showing qualities he likes.

would say that Selke had to overperform in U21 Euro 2017 but he didn't was adequate player but not difference maker in that tourney. Than had a good season post U21 but then last season struggled.

although Low still stated that he's following his career and what he would like to see in him. Still hard to do when your bencher.

really hope this isn't a wasted season for him, could end up with 2 consecutive seasons not making much progress.

to be fair, Ibisevic scored that double vs 10 men.

The lack of scoring efficiency is what remains to be the biggest concern for Selke. He's been given the starting chances lately but has yet to capitalize, while his teammates have been able to. As he gets older, these are things he needs to prove.

Selke returns to taking a role off the bench. As Ibisevic is made starter again and scored vs Fortuna Duesseldorf. Hertha won their 3rd straight, Dilrosun looks to be a key factor in their recent rise.

Selke's movement and decisions in the box are just terrible. Last season he had the most assists for Hertha despite being out or not fully fit for most of the Hinrunde. With the midfield machine getting into gear that won't happen this time around either. Work rate just isn't enough...He won't get a sniff at the DFB shirt anytime soon.

Once Ibisevic retired, Hertha will buy a new striker to replace Ibisevic.

They have given enough time for Selke, but he is very inconsistent and unreliable. I dont think he can be a starting striker in the league from what i've seen.

Something is missing in his game.

HE should stay in Hertha, but i doubt Preetz is confident that Selke can be a long term replacement of Ibisevic now.

If they are bringing in a new striker, Selke has nothing to blame but himself.

In the interview (Thursday edition) Selke also talks about his difficult start to the season, why he avoids the word relegation battle, his future at the DFB and the advances of the Czech Association, which wants to win him for the European Championship 2020.

Talks about the club, Klinsmann etc at the link.
    https://www.kicker.de/764348/artikel/selke_wir_wissen_was_jetzt_gefragt_ist_#twfeed

so he could still get poached by the Czech which will further reduce the already small striker pool.

Does anyone know what he says about dfb vs Czech association. Said it before with expanded WCs and expanded Euros the allure of smaller feds will be there. Better chance to be XI there or harder with Germany.....

it really is something when Germany struggle to produce CFs yet other feds poach or want to poach just because they could or are 1BL players nothing more.

Found Klinsmann's views that he should be for dfb but not Selkes. Selke scored vs Dortmund but it was ruled out.

Jürgen Klinsmann praises Hertha striker Selke and calls DFB team as a goal: "coach must see you"

Klinsmann motivates Selke: "The boy is fun"
Coach Klinsmann therefore tries everything to rebuild his attacker. Immediately after the game he showed Selke the offside decision on the screen to motivate him. When I see Davie, I want to help him with words and deeds - especially because I used to be a striker myself, "said Hertha's interim coach at the press conference ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday (20.30, DAZN). The ex-scorer has an advice for the 24-year-olds and says: "You have to set clear goals.Of course, he was disappointed, we strikers live from goals."

Since a good week as coach at Hertha BSC in office: Jürgen Klinsmann.
Hertha BSC: That's what the players say after the first week under Jürgen Klinsmann
As a slightly older player ("he is not 17 or 18"), Selke should not be distracted. At the same time, Klinsmann formulates high goals, which the Hertha attacker himself has had for a long time. "You have to screw the goal rate so high that the national coach sees you," said the predecessor of Joachim Loew in the German national team. So far, Selke runs under the radar and was not invited by Löw to DFB-Eleven.

Selke about Klinsmann: "Made heads free"
Selke has already announced that he has recognized a positive development under Klinsmann after just a few days. "The coach has made our heads free," he said after the match against BVB.Elke in the interview with the kicker now put in and emphasized: "Everyone in the new coaching team is under power, this is transferred to us players." Soon that also apply to him.

While he often came from the bank so far this season, he was allowed to run directly under Klinsmann 90 minutes. The confidence of his coach, he can probably be sure. Klinsmann said to his tribe Elf until Christmas: "I think the boys can find each other and take up rhythm." So probably Selke is probably also against Frankfurt in the starting lineup.

have to say unless he has a crazy remaining of the season, seems doubtful Low calls him up to Euros.

that’s not a topic for Selke

He doesn’t have a Czech passport Post 21 years old (last checked few months ago) and he did play for Germany after 21. He can switch if He has already had a Czech passport before that

not sure if he knows or anyone knows the regulation

have check that already with some FIFA officials

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_eligibility_rules
In January 2004, a new ruling came into effect that permitted a player to represent one country at youth international level and another at senior international level, provided that the player applied before their 21st birthday.[9] The first player to do so was Antar Yahia, who played for the France under-18s before representing Algeria in qualifiers for the 2004 Olympic Games.[10] More recent examples include Sone Aluko, who has caps for the England under-19s and Nigeria,[11] and Andrew Driver, a former England under-21 representative who is committed to the Scotland national team.[12]

Selke didn’t apply before, doesn’t have a Czech passport until now

and he played for Germany post 21 yo without Czech passport

    that makes him permanently capped

his request to FIFA (if any) would be rejected easily

at this rate, he isn’t even qualified for Czech Republic. They don’t need him, they have at least 6 better strikers than Selke. Unless they wanna take 7 CFs.

He has to do something to save his career.

Selke’s problem is , he just isn’t too interested in football

he needs to be focus and determined. Or else he will be a failure anywhere

a bruise will rule him out for months. He can be tougher and takes more risk
