Well, I am relieved: after the two mid-week games I was mildly worried, since I was two points behind the robot and even four points behind @McSkillz for the week: had I botched the week-end games also, my 1st place could have been back in contention again (or it could anyway have made for an "interesting" end of season). After the four matches of the week-end, I managed to catch up with both of my closer opponents instead (or I even reversed the situation, since I gained one point over the bot), and now, crossing fingers, I should probably forget to predict all of the next matches to manage to somehow lose the regular season "shield". Talking about "forgetting to predict", and pointing to the post above mine, how many of us didn't miss a single prediction? In other words, if I'll win the title, it will mostly come from not missing a single week of prediction or would I lead anyway? You promised to compile some kind of "average rankings" from the season, to compare the "scored points per prediction" rate, @cpthomas, and I hope you'll have the time to dish out that chart after the end of the season. I am curious to know if I fare well in those rankings also. Another question, this time for the "historian" @SiberianThunderT: how long ago the first of this yearly contests was held? Does it date back to the first NWSL season or is it more recent? Do we have any list of the previous winners?
There isn't a complied list of winners, but it shouldn't be too hard (just long) to dig back each thread. They go back to the WPS days, IIRC, because I'm fairly sure I remember having prediction strategy discussions with one of my fellow Athletica fans - they definitely go to at least the beginning of NWSL. If I have time later today, I'll do a dive through the forum.
I will go with: ORL 1 WAS 2 A couple of weeks ago, when I was in the high “90s”, I decided to approach the rest of the season like I do a game at the bowling alley: as long as my score beats 100, I won’t feel embarrassed. It looks like I made 107, so it’s all good.
...to the point that I start thinking that the joke's going to be on us and that Orlando will end winning by 3-0! I am not changing my predcition, anyway.
Wow, I guess no-one made more than one single point out of this match! Will we get a sort of "Week 20" update, or will it make more sense to include this single game in next week-end's (and final) update?
And ... here are the weekly results/standings going into the final week of the season. blissett seems like a lock as the regular season prediction winner. But then again ....
Well, it's difficult to think that I can lose 6 points in a single, last week. But, since anything is possible, I'll try anyway to play it quite safe with my final regular season's predictions (no 6-0s, basically, despite the fact that NC-NJ was looking very tempting ): NC 3 NJ 1 ORL 0 SEA 1 UTA 1 HOU 0 POR 1 WAS 1
NC 3 NJ 1 ORL 0 SEA 1 UTA 1 HOU 0 POR 1 WAS 1 As I can't catch Blissett, I'll imitate him with the same picks.
The robot: NC 2 v NJNY 0 Orl 1 v Sea 2 Ut 2 v Hou 1 Por 2 v Was 1 Enough differences from blissett to make it interesting?
Mmm, let's assume you make the maximum points available to you, thus 3x4=12 points. In that case, if my calculations are right, I should make 7 points and I'd remain anyway ahead of you by one single point. Of course, I guess there could be some other combinations in-between that let you make more points than me, but I am not sure if any of them is giving you 6 or more points more than me.
