Goals against Mexico. Hex goals against Costa Rica. Road goals in the Hex. Goals in the World Cup, Confederations, and the Copa. Over the years, we've had forwards who could bag a few of those types goals, a task one would expect of an elite American forward. Altidore has one friendly goal against Mexico. Even Conor Casey managed to score road goals in the Hex! The pool is the pool and Altidore deserves to be in the pool, but hopefully stays on rotation.
Yes, the last Hex should have been the final nail in the coffin for him (so to speak, as I still think he should be in the squad as long as he's performing well in MLS). But he scored in one game out of 9 he played. His one good game he scored a tap-in where CP did everything, and a penalty he didn't win, IIRC. You just can't have that performance when you simultaneously don't qualify for the first time in 30 years. I don't care how well you did in MLS, or whether you scored 8 goals in 5 games in pre-Hex against St Kitts. You simply cannot be a locked in starter anymore.
What part of Sargent's game is better today? I have only seen him play for the USMNT and youth teams. I like him a lot but I will be pleasantly surprised if he's already better than Jozy.
From what I've seen with me own eyes - finishing ability with US/youth teams, hold up play, aerial ability based on that sick assist last weekend. From what I know - the fact he's starting games and performing in a league Jozy would not be able to sniff. If anyone wants to quibble with "better", I get it, that could be debatable (though it isn't in my mind). But he's also 19 and improving, while Jozy has peaked and has shown himself to not be the answer for the NT.
Of any of our attackers, Morris is playing the best ball. I'd like to see him get a run out at striker.
Player(WS score at the position for this season. Pulisic's is for the career) ----------------------------Morris(7.21)-------- -------Pulisic(7.41)----Lletget(7.21)----Arriola(7.46)----
I can't think of a better argument against using WS ratings across leagues than Arriola being rated above Pulisic.
Then I honestly have no idea what a lineup with WS ratings next to all the players (one of whom does play in a different league) is for.
This was the exchange Nowhere was it implied that any player was better than another based on WS ratings. I merely posted the WS ratings of the players in those specific positions, as I had stated in the post. Morris has good form at striker at club level. He also has good form at winger at international level. I suggested Morris should get minutes at striker with the National Team. But the poster pointed out we had little winger depth on the roster. I posted a lineup showing that other a players have displayed strong form on the wings.
Apparently, Jozy got hurt yesterday. Sore quad supposedly. Looks like he might be resting over the international break.
In these matches Zardes should at least be able to knock a couple of goals in accidently with his face.
