We watched the series premiere of Stumptown on ABC last night, a PI show set and shot in Portland. The lead's younger brother who is cognitively challenged in some way (if they stated it I missed it) is a huge Portland Timbers fan who dreams of one day playing midfield for them. Pretty much every scene he was in he was wearing some sort of Timbers swag and often times more than one piece. Since they clearly made it a major part of his character and its filmed in Portland I'm wondering if we'll ever see them at a game or some other actual Timbers activity.
I read that only the pilot was filmed in Portland while future episodes are filmed in L.A. I guess Portland fans can at least be happy about Grimm.
Really? Damn. I figured between Grimm, Leverage, and the Librarians there was enough film industry there that this was just going to be another show that used Portland.
Wasn't only the later seasons of Leverage filmed there? Or maybe I'm mistaken? I didn't know about the Librarans though. It really sucks because it adds so much to the character of a series to be set/filmed some place other than LA or NY.
The whole series was filmed there, but the later seasons were set in Portland (the earlier seasons were set in Boston, until it got too hot for the team and they had to set up shop somewhere else). My Dad recently retired from a job in downtown Portland and on of the earlier seasons they used the balcony in his office building for a scene between Timothy Hutton and Gina Bellman (Nate and Sophie). It was the same production crew as Leverage, including the producers. And of course Christian Kane was in the main cast of both shows.
I, too, noticed this. Some interviews I looked up said that principal production for the pilot was elsewhere, but that they filmed some exteriors there. It also sounded like principal production would not be in Portland. They didn't mention anything about the younger brother, which I actually really appreciate. They treated him as I would hope anyone would treat anyone else: like a person. Basically, at this point I expect mostly stock footage from Portland, definitely a bunch more on screen presentation of Timbers stuff with the brother, and maybe some ESPN footage of a Timbers game at some point. First season of Leverage was filmed in LA, all subsequent seasons were filmed in and around Portland. One of the most amusing episodes was the one where they filmed an episode about a Portland (Maine) minor league baseball team, and used the Portland (Oregon) minor league baseball stadium that is now known as Providence Park. I also used to work in an office building where Leverage filmed an episode, but that was before I worked there (they had a thank you note from the Leverage cast and crew hung in the office).
