Compounded by the fact that it overlaps with the second week of Wimbledon...

I would take a look at university owned rooms that are rented out. Prices start at £50 a night for the week of the semis.

london is huge, I do not think it should get critical.
when my friends were booking last month there was more than enough available and prices were OK, no nosebleed

I'd just keep my eye on hotel apps for deals because they change daily/weekly. Looking at Hotels.com right now (though I'm partial to Booking.com) for the semis and finals, there seem to be plenty of hotels for less than ~150/night.

Just don't try to stay in Central London in the dead of summer, especially when you don't need to. Consult a London tube map instead; it's not difficult to stay near one of the many stations outside zone one.

Any guess of the kick off time for the game at Wembley on 27 June ?
I would guess 5pm UK or 8pm UK time... But wondering if others had any thoughts

I would almost certainly say it would be the earlier time whatever that was. Have to say this is another extremely amateurish piece of planning by UEFA. Why would you not name the kick off times at this point, we always know for the WCs? People do need to plan their trips and so times are vital and especially if two games on two days or in Popularside's case 5 games in 3 days!

Only 2 games that day so likely to be circa 5pm or 8pm. However don't rule out 3pm Saturday in England.

Definitely 5 or 8pm, but hard to guess which. 5pm would be more like normal for a Saturday, but the other match that day is in Amsterdam, where it might be the same situation (kick-off is 6 or 9pm there).
Exploiting the time-zone difference would suggest 6pm Amsterdam and 8pm Wembley.
OK, I've got no idea really.

Surely Wembley being match 37 and Amstedam 38 would mean the earlier kick off in London.

You are probably right. however given they haven't announced the times and have done for subsequent rounds it must still be in doubt.

They won't decide until after the draw, which implies that it might depend on who could be playing (and the possible TV audience).

Culture differences: Everything is done earlier in the UK. i.e. what English people are doing at 5pm, Dutch people are doing at 6pm.

So yeah, its anyone's guess at this point. :geek:

Looking at UEFA so far they will probably decide next April after the ludicrously late play offs.

That may be more down to time zones rather than cultural differences.

Russia would be placed in Group B (Copenhagen and LED)

Correct but if Russia came 2nd in their group and won their Round of 16 match they would play in the Baku QF (which according to their post history is a match they applied for).

According to the Uefa website, next sale phases (December&April) will be only for fans from countries that reached the tournament. that’s sucks.

Highly unlikely, there will be specific sales for qualified nation and a general one.

Sorry if posted elsewhere, but I found this buried in the UEFA site today while looking at some other stuff. It has a bit more detail than I think we've had before about how the final draw will work on November 30.

Four pots based on qualifying results, with the last four spots in pot 4 dedicated to placeholders for the four playoff winners. Two hosts from the same putative finals group cannot be in the same pot and so the pots will be adjusted by moving a team up or down as necessary to avoid that situation. So, for example, if Russia and Denmark ended up in the same pot, one would be moved higher or lower as necessary.

The Pots will be picked in order. First, any hosts in the pot will be assigned to their groups. So, if Italy, England and Germany are in Pot 1, Italy would first be placed in group A and then a ball from 1 to 4 will be drawn to put it in position in group A. England would be placed in group D and Germany in group F. Then the three remaining balls from Pot 1 would be pulled and placed into the remaining groups in alphabetical order -- with the first going to group B, the second going to group C and the third going to group E.

I don't think I realized this but the group games are not yet assigned to venues. For example, the first matchday in group D will be D1 v. D2 and D3 v. D4, but it will not be decided until after the draw which game is in London and which is in Glasgow. I guess that way if England gets D3, then D3 v. D4 will be the London game.

I still don't really understand what happens if a playoff winner ends up being a host but has been drawn into a different city. For example, if Pot 4 is picked and playoff winner 3 gets group E, but then playoff winner 3 turns out to be Hungary, I don't know what the heck is supposed to happen. This document says only that the Emergency Committee will figure it out. I guess by the time of the draw they will know the host teams that have a possibility of winning through the playoff path. And then they can simply hold those groups open. Like if Hungary and Scotland can each qualify through the playoff maybe what they do is assign the other four teams in Pot 4 to the four sites other than Glasgow and Budapest and then they have those two groups remaining if either wins their playoff.

My wife and I will be backpacking in Europe next summer and ironically will be in Rome Italy when the quarterfinals will be taking place and would like to go. Do you have any suggestions for that? What do prices usually look at for that? Are they typically cheaper than a World Cup match? Obviously it’s a quarterfinal match so it’s going to be a little more expensive than most. How does literary system work? Any third party site you recommend if I don’t get lottery tickets? Any feedback would be helpful

    Thanks

The playoff winners will be drawn into the host cities. It only becomes a problem if there are more than 4 hosts in the playoffs. This is highly unlikely.

Say Hungary, Scotland, Denmark and Romania in the playoffs.

Romania would end up in A, Denmark in B and Hungary and Scotland in C.

The winners of the League A playoff go to Bucharest, B to Copenhagen, C to Glasgow and D to Budapest.

The caveat being if Hungary win C then the winners of D go to Glasgow instead.

Just noticed this. For previous tournaments there have been separate winter sales for competing countries and the general public. My understanding is that this will also be the case in December.

It really is ridiculously complicated and can see the draw being a disaster but I still feel that any host nations plays at least 2 games at home and if they have to play the other host nation in that group then a draw was made for that and yet I saw yesterday that some one said that even if Scotland qualify they will be at Wembley against England.
