Yes - I see more talent staying home and not dashing to Eclipse/FCU/Sockers.

    Agree.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but no kid can have contact coach/go on campus till HS junior year. This should push back the bulk of recruiting back 1-2 years? So, no freshman or sophmore verbals (or eighth grade). So really no need to jump to Big 3 for exposure till maybe freshman year (U15/16)?

I still think parents will jump earlier but probably later than they are now. Thoughts?

Correct. No contact now, direct or thru intermediaries, until June 15 after their sophmore year. Visits can start Aug 1. NCAA found in D1 Soccer 37% of girls were committing in freshman year, 41% as sophmores. They wanted to push it back, change the landscape and relieve pressure, and align it closer to boy's D1 commits which mostly happen in junior year.

I doubt they lost many aside from girls that live in NB since half the u13 ECNL team are 2008s

Parents with special needs will continue to move their kids to the finishing schools early. It's an expensive car magnet, but a lot of parents want it, and some think it reduces the chances of Suzy getting cut at u16... it doesn't.

The value of u13, u14, u15 "showcases" has pretty much gone to zero.

I do think the college recruiting changes add value to ODP (relative to GDA or ECNL) for those that want to build a resume at the younger ages. I know people hate ODP and it has lots of issues, but it is a time and (relatively) cost effective way to build a resume if that is important to you.

I wonder if ODP started giving out car magnets to state pool players would they be more successful in strengthening their pools.

I don't believe that that is close to being true. Even with the "moved up" recruiting process of recent years, around 50% of the girls commited after their junior years.

But, I am open to be proven wrong, so if you have a link to those statistics, please post.

The stats I found for girls commitments...

    9th or earlier: 3%
    10th: 29%
    11th: 55%
    12th: 13%

Based on what I have seen in the Chicago area this feels right.

Women's softball, gymnastics and lacrosse skew slightly earlier. And as expected the timed sports (running, swimming, etc.) recruit much later. I don't recall where I saw this but the earliest recruiting used to be mens lacrosse. But they self regulated over a year ago to eliminate early recruiting.

The stats were off but this is mostly correct. However, prospective student athletes (PSA) can go on campus prior to Junior year but can have no contact with anyone in the Athletic Department. But they can do tours, have discussions with admissions, etc.

The exception is camps. Colleges still use camps as a recruiting tool. While they cannot recruit during the camps (unless they are juniors), they can talk to campers and get to know them a little, just not talk about recruiting. The value a PSA has is showing a college that they are interested in them. And from my experience, if they know you are on a DA team they will make sure to take to time to watch you play (some of these camps are huge and frankly just money-makers for the coaching staff). So there will still be an advantage to moving to DA at the earliest point IMO.

And colleges will continue to look at occasionally 8th, but definitely 9th and 10th graders at showcases to prepare for the onslaught that I expect will occur Aug. 1 Junior year.

13% seems too low. Look at top drawer

2020 commits in both IL and nationally are less than 40% than 2019 commits. Even with delayed posting of commits, if 13% were correct, the number of 2020 commits would be much higher, right?

    Maybe that stat

I have seen coaches give preferential treatment to returning ODP players. Perception is they are more committed or talented. Not always true.

Think of it a strong internship on your resume.

I have signed up this year for my older daughter despite the training location being way too far.

Anyone care to speculate on the chances of a kid getting recruited via direct contact with college coaches and videos/correspondence and minimal exposure at showcase events/camps versus the kid at a super club playing multiple showcases per year during HS years?
Maybe I'm naive, I just think true talent gets found. If your a college program and your not turning over rocks, I don't think you'll be successful.
Also, anyone know of resources to find out about alternative pathways after H.S.?
I would rather have my kid go spend a few years in Europe playing, learning new culture than trying to maintain two full-time jobs(school and sport) for 4 years for an expensive degree he may or may not be able to use.
    Thx

Yep I agree. Thinking about 2019 grads that I know 13% is low. Could be in the 25-30% range. And all of this will change with the new NCAA rule. Within a few years everyone will be in the 11th/12th grade buckets.

Based on this parents will take their kids to the big clubs just as they do now.

For anyone who goes to MWC games, are they missing officials a lot? I seem to constantly getting emails that games in the Chicagoland area need refs and many times the game is starting within 2 hours

Could be more drama at FCU. SP was dumped by St. Ignatius and rumblings that it could be similar to a CS situation.

When everything happened with CS and JS they were removed from the FCU website virtually straight away, SP is still on there right nown

Seriously? Your source is “rumblings” and you post that it’s similar to accusations that prompted a police investigation. This is not gossip about clubs merging; this is serious stuff. I hope SP in not litigious.

Not to hijack this thread, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend someone for individual training in the near-west burbs? My daughter could use some help with shielding the ball and general technique for using her body. Her club doesn't seem to work on these individual skills. Thanks in advance.

College women soccer players call it "butts and elbows" I learned when an All Big East defender Coached my daughter a few years ago. It's kind of self-explanatory, the butt and elbows are extended to create a cage around the ball and shield it from pressure. Of course one needs to develop enough technical skill to keep possession, pass quick and hard, or turn with the ball etc. Knowing where your open teammates are before you receive the ball is essential to handling the pressure well. Good luck with her new Coach.

Keep her arm up, body at a slight angle and the ball on her safe side.

Most likely a private school issue. Maybe upset the wrong donor. Has happened before at other schools in plenty of sports. Allegedly that is what started the CS investigation. Parent was not happy with recruitment so they turned on him quickly.

Can you guys explain what you mean by "FCU trying to sell up" and "not happy with recruitment"? CS got canned because a kid didn't get recruited?

CS got canned for years of being inappropriate to young girls, both club and school that is common knowledge. I don’t know about what the recruitment issue is.

The guy who owns FCU wants to sell it and is trying to put things in place so he can do so.
