I assume Homie was talking about nationally available carriers. Spectrum in Los Angeles has GolTV and BeIN available (but not TyC). Too bad the Dish deal didn't include Univision returning to SlingTV.
I alluded to a lot of this stuff in the Turner/Univision Champions thread but Dish really has stepped up their game in the last few months. Last year Dish was the worst when it came to the Champions League and Europa due to their dispute with Uniivision. Only the TNT matches of the week were available for most of the tournament. 2019-2020 is way different now. Every Group Stage and Knockout Stage match (In Spanish) will be available on Dish satellite receivers. Even the TUDNxtra match streams will be available to watch on your big screens on a group of channels dedicated to TUDNxtra. You can also access all the matches on the Dishanywhere.com streams and Dishanywhere apps. I also would not be surprised if most of these matches will be available onDemand on the Dish Hopper receiver as well. (But that is just speculation on my behalf.) Without knowing what the other service providers are doing is it safe to say that Dish has gone from worst to first when it comes to Champions League coverage??? I am thinking it may be the best for soccer period right now.
It appears the days of "Cheap Charlie" are a thing of the past. Can't someone with Dish make a 2x2 array of whatever channels and watch four things at once? It was ages ago, but I seem to remember the DirecTV "mix" channels having lots of "dead space" on the screen.
Yes. It is called Sports Bar Mode. You can watch any four channels in your programming guide at the same time (with the screen split into 4 equal parts with no"dead space".) It is going to be fun to use this week for sure.
Haha. Outside of New York not many people care but this is true. Those channels are not on Dish. So The few of you who like MLS NY games are out of luck.
It works with any television set. Unfortunately though I just found out today that the TUDNxtra stream channels are not able to stream in Sports Bar mode which is a bummer.
You're right though. Shouldn't ESPN+ and a proxy work though? Would I be wrong to predict a fracturing of TV packages by traditional companies such as Charter, Dish, etc offering packages without major sports channels? Or maybe you'd get ESPN, ESPN2, FS1 and your local RSN...but not ESPN News, ESPNU, FS2 and other lesser sports channels. I could live just fine without Longhorn Network, SEC Network, ACC Network, Golf, TUDN, Tennis, Olympic and TVG...but the way the tiers are set up, I must pay for them. Charlie could be on to something...should the people that don't watch sports be forced to subsidize the cost for those who do? Of course, that's how the system has worked for years...but it's also how the skinny bundles like Hulu, Sling, etc, work for now. I'm not saying ala carte or full customization...but maybe put those niche sports channels on higher tiers where they probably belong.
In the year of "Provider vs Channel Owner" it's now Dish vs Fox. (Includes FS1, FS2, Fox Deportes, Fox Soccer Plus and BTN) In a matter of hours, at 5pm ET, it looks like AT&T vs Sinclair...and this is right after AT&T and Disney made peace and just a month or so after AT&T customers couldn't watch Nexstar or CBS (CBS Sports Network, CBS O&O affiliates and some Smithsonian customers) CBS channels were off for maybe a week or two and Nexstar channels were off for close to 2.5 months.
Yup. We shall see how long the FOX-Dish dispute goes. No Fox college football and NFL football is going to really give FOX a lot of leverage with angry phone calls to customer service.
Which is exactly what FOX wants. The quicker Dish caves to their customers, the quicker FOX gets their increase...for something most people can watch for free with an antenna. But since broadcast TV ratings have fallen over the past 10-15 years, the broadcasters can't get their advertising dollars like they used to, but the fees are still there and even moreso over that same time.
Bummer about no Fox Deportes on Sling, along with Sling earlier having lost the Univision channels. If they had kept those two networks, they’d have pretty much everything football-wise with the exception of GolTV.
