Boyd has shown glimpses of a good player mixed in with some play that doesn't recognize an opportunity for teamwork. He's in the top 40 for me. Another problem may be who plays FB on his side. I'd try him with Dest before giving up on him.

Good point and sometimes the 6, who is furthest back of mids, is the one to sniff out the danger and help out on the wing when a fullback is stuck with guarding a Ronaldo in which case the 8 has to read the game well enough to take up the slack left by the 6.

That's where the McKennie grovelers go wrong. He's just not any good at it. Now think about the likes of Mihailovic, Da Boy, Yueil, etc. whom Egg called up and you're far from your dmid type.

we have morris playing well, Zardes and Jozy who could also play that side, Weah when he gets well, and others we haven't tried. this is not a pro team where we are stuck with the deals we made until the next window. we don't have to cope. we can call other people.

i think he does have a cannon shot and that might be a useful bench wrinkle but in international play we don't have to settle on players. if a guy is just "ok," or "inconsistent," or "shows glimpses," you keep looking.

this is our problem is we get stuck going in circles waiting on upside. this is international play, you have as big of a roster as you can try out.

we need to demand more from our players.

and repeating my point, if we stuck him out there in a big game, what are you expecting? not hoping for. what is it he consistently does? does. does. based on his history for NZ and USA senior teams, that guyana game is the anomaly, not a feature.

I think Boyd has quality. No clue why it shows in small glimpses, he seems to be rated by Gregg, needs to start showing his ability in games now.

Boyd has switched club teams as well. He hasn't been putting up nearly the same numbers with the new team and like Pulisic, may see some bench time.
