He was poor in too many games to note, but was also part of that fateful camp which sunk Jurgen, being one of the liabilities on the squad, after having multiple failed stints with the U.S..

Under no circumstance is it excusable to tell your teammates national team camps that your clubs pay you more so that's what you should prioritize. If you're one of those guys then don't play internationally. It fit his history where he repeatedly turned down call-ups to cap-tie him.

Serious answer; if you believe that he has a higher ceiling than those other players then you should consider him "ahead"?

Chandler's best position has been as a WB in a 3CB setup. He has thrived in that slot both left and right for Frankfurt for the last 3+ years.

He has been so good for them that they just signed him to a contract extension to 2022 despite Chandler missing almost all of last year to injury.

How do you know this? Source?
Only thing I know about the fella is that he didn't like flying.

I don't now if he's better right now, but I think there's a greater than 50% chance that he's a better player in a year or two.

The question is whether we need someone else in the meantime.

He repeatedly turned down call-ups around the time he could be cap-tied, except for some friendlies. Then his fear of flying subsided. Should be the opposite if anything.

Here's the link you asked for about his useful advice to a fellow USNT teammate: https://www.theringer.com/2018/6/5/...ory-jurgen-klinsmann-sunil-gulati-bruce-arena

In November 2016, at the end of a practice session ahead of what would be Klinsmann’s final match in charge of the U.S. national team, defender Timmy Chandler gave a younger teammate some telling advice. Forward Bobby Wood was nursing minor knocks suffered from the previous match — a disappointing 2–1 loss to Mexico on home soil — and Chandler told him not to risk aggravating his injuries. Wood was still establishing himself as a regular starter in Germany’s Bundesliga. Why, Chandler posited, risk that by overexerting yourself for your country when your club team was paying most of your bills?

Wood ignored Chandler’s advice and started the match, but the exchange symbolizes the state of the team that Arena would inherit.

That was the final nail in the coffin and further reinforced why his club play didn't translate. So people should stop using it as an argument for yet another chance.

It's only reasonable that a player prioritizes his club.

Chandler was LWB in a 343 and he was poor today. His mark, Marco Richter, scored the first goal when Timothy left him alone in the area.

The full sequence was deleted, but the goal itself is here:

    https://cc.sporttube.com/embed/A3iCCCG/no-preload

The guy watching from midfield at the -0.06 mark is Timothy, who had been marking Richter correctly until three seconds before, when he somehow forgot to look behind and assumed the guy was still with him.

I guess people will rationalize anything to confirm a bias or to maximize unrealized potential in the pool.

If you prioritize your club, and especially convince others to, I guess we don't need you on the national team.

Some players even take more pride playing for the national team. That's especially true in other countries. We should expect the same here. It used to be a staple.

They could get hurt with their clubs or country and they already signed a contract. Unless they have an impending one before their next club match, get out there, and bring it. Otherwise we'll find someone who does.

The context of that supposed conversation was never sourced by the authors who admitted that the set out to and had been trying to publish a Klinsmann hit piece for some time.

Was this the same Chandler who did his leg in the final BuLi match in 2017 and was carted off. A few days later he accepted BA's callup against the wishes and medical advice of his club, showed up to the camp where he was examined by US medical staff and was promptly sent home because he was clearly not medically fit to practice much less play.

I guess he did not take his own "advice".

I’ll just mention that it’s perplexing Gooch hasn’t got more run. What reason is there for that?

It’s not an <expletive> charity. Players can and do lose careers from injuries suffered playing for the national team. If you’re hurt bad enough, get rest. The fed isn’t going to be looking after your post career well being any better then the nfl does it’s own players. This isn’t Omaha beach and kicking the Nazis out of France, it’s international soccer. Family and club come first, they’re your career. It’s not 1993. I empathize, I want guys proud to wear the shirt too, but it’s like Andrew Luck, fans can turn on you in a second. Family is family. I’ll also note that many of us want players to reject call ups until a Berhalter is canned or gets a clue. That’s a far more chintzy reason to fail to show than a “knock” (and I’m one of those people or damn close to it).

Writing on the wall already for Pulisic? Another US player not getting minutes either due to injury or just better options. I recorded 8 games today between the EPL and Bundisliga and not a single US player in the lineup. Pulisic had a 4 game window and failed to make an impression. We may see him in CL... but I think we gotta get used to him being on the bench. Odoi isn't even back yet and Willian... yes Willian played the entire game today. Not a good sign. I am not sure what I am more angry about?... Pulisic not making the most of his opportunity.... or Tyler Adams still being hurt for what seems like forever. I am officially in a bad mood.

Just about the league he's playing in. But I don't think anybody would have a problem if he was called in.

His goal yesterday was a sweet volley. It won all sorts of "Goal of the Day" polls from League One fans. Gooch seems to love it at Sunderland, and he seems to have become a fan favorite there. But if they don't get promoted back to the Championship, he'll have to think about leaving. If he wants a USMNT role anyway.

Goal for Emmanuel Sabbi as Hobro are leading Copenhagen 2-0. Chris Cappis also started this game, with Yosef Samuel on the bench.
