Even though GK Nick Rimando is 40 and will be retiring following the 2019 season, h still looks good. Wondering if he will re-think that decision? .

 

that's really interesting to learn he is 40. The guy still has a lot of spring in his jump! How come media doesn't write about his longevity?
Also, I just discovered that he was born in Fontana, CA, same as me.

I didn't think the goal was that bad. Deflection meant Marie didn't have time to close down the cross. RSL player may not even have looked up to pick his target, it looks like it could've been a blind cross and luckily found a target.

I don't agree with that as that situation warrants a red card if the keeper plays it with his hands and thus prevents a clear goal scoring opportunity. As such, VAR should be reviewing it.

 

DOGSO is the only reason it could get reviewed. I’d need to see it again but my recollection of it is that the ball wasn’t going in the goal even if hands weren’t used.

Now did the use of hands deny the attacker an obvious opportunity? I’d really need to see it again but I don’t remember even thinking this when watching it.

 

Just re-watched the play which happened around 79:50. IMHO clearly not DOGSO since there was an RSL defender in between Rimando and Vako.

Even if somehow Rimando completely missed the ball it's not clear it would have gone in the net and there were defenders that could have stopped it from doing so.
Vako didn't have an obvious opportunity because like I side there was a defender right there on him (actually collided with Rimando). Vako never even had control of the ball.

The only mistake that was made is the ref should have called handball and given a free kick.

 

Yet somehow Dickerson completely missed the play, which was quite obvious. Pretty sure if that play had been done against LAFC they would have gotten the call. It's time to end this bias in favor of the "better" teams. Better deliberately in quotes as its pretty obvious to me that part of the reason they are "better" is they consistently get calls in their favor.

 

Dickerson is from San Jose. Probably not biased against us.

 

According to The International Football Association Board laws of the game clarifications for 2019-20 in Circular 17:

"The use of VARs is only for ‘clear and obvious errors’ and for ‘serious missed incidents’ (where the match officials have not seen what has happened) in relation to a goal/no goal, penalty/no penalty or direct red card incident, or for mistaken identity relating to a yellow or red card."

 

Isn't there something in the rules about the last defender committing a foul that thwarts a scoring chance warranting a red card?

If so, then if Rimando touched the ball outside the box (not sure he did) without any defender behind him, then that should be a red. What am I missing?

 

Growing up among chickens does that to you!

 

I am not sure if this applies to the full extent but I have seen yellow's for a professional foul and this is what I saw Rimando doing. He was only in a position to take down Vako.

In generally I do think Vako needs to take a few more dives as he is chopped to hell and just needs to fall down rather than lose the ball.
