The return for Stephen Eustaquio is a massive boost for the National team. He joined Canada earlier this year before his injury with Cruz Azul in Liga MX. At 22 years old, Stephen would become our #1 defensive midfielder after Atiba Hutchinson retirement ahead of Samuel Piette.

These guys are gunning for us and they smell blood in the water with our recent crappy performances. Those are going to be some really challenging games, it would be a great outcome to get 4 of 6 points. And if we get 3 and 3, that will make advancing a challenge if both we and Canada get all 6 against Cuba bc it will come down to goal differential and they are looking great on that front.

I'm thinking that 4-2-3-1 works best for us against the USA.

    --------------------Cavallini

    ------Davies------David-------Hoillet

    -----------Arfield-----------Kaye (Hutchinson if healthy)

    Adekugbe--Cornelius--Vitoria--Laryea

    ------------------------Borjan

I've been very impressed with Kaye when I've seen him with LAFC. Have his national team performances not been as good?

Yes, I found him very good for the national team, however, Hucthison is still considered as the superior option.

I do rate Kaye above Jonathan Osorio

    Possibly.
However they did lose in embarrassing fashion to Haiti in their last official match prior to this break.
So I am still leaning towards a close win in Toronto and in Orlando.

Marcus Godinho won't be there nor was he this time.

Laryea of TFC seemed to have won RB spot. Davies won't be LB
Henry is suspended, good riddance, Steven Vitoria will replace him at CB.

    We made defensive changes.

Question is, can the USMNT defense stop Cavallini, David, Davies, Hoillet?

Which midfield will dictate the game?

Sounds like an exciting game for sure

Was that the 3-2 loss in the Gold Cup? That wasn't such an embarrassing loss IMO. Both teams played well, and Haiti is no joke, a much improved team in Concacaf.

It is when they were up 2-0 at halftime and would go on to give up 3 unanswered goals.

They also have a ton to play for.

Win the group, and they have a really good shot at being in the hex.

Lose to us in Toronto, and they are almost certainly out of the hex.

Exactly. Within the context it was embarrassing to lose a game like that. Especially when their manager was talking trash about a Semi in the Gold Cup with Mexico.

If this match were in Montreal or Vancouver with a hostile environment maybe I would be concerned a bit more.
But in Toronto? I see it being more of a stale environment with USA fans making the trip up there and probably being as loud.
I see something like 1-1 at halftime and us sneaking out with a 2-1 somehow.

Talking thrash? You sure about that?
He said his goal was to reach the semi-finals against Mexico...not exactly talking trash as it's normal to set objectives

After the Mexico loss he arrogantly said that there would be a rematch in the semis.
That can be construed as talking trash to a team like Haiti.

He said he was rotating because he had "planned" for the Semifinals.

At that time, he had no clue yet that Haiti had beaten Costa Rica.

So he wasn't talking thrash to Haiti either.

Of course, overconfidence/arrogance that's not thrashing another team.

What does Herdman get paid apporox, if you don't mind me asking. I'm just wondering how seriously the federation is taking this cycle.

They wouldn't published the numbers but it's long term... like 2026 at the minimum long term...

He's not only the manager but also the TD from U14 to senior. He's tasked to fixed the pathway from youth level to the National team like he did for the women's side.

Mauro Biello is the assistant coach and head coach of the U23 team. He's also the dedicated scout/liaison for the Canadian Premier League

    True.
Maybe talking trash was not the appropriate term.
Just seems to me to be a bit of silly arrogance when he was looking to the Semis instead of his next opponent in a post game press conference.

No one's defending his management of the tournament. He had the right idea but not studying Haiti cost us. (He expected Costa Rica and prepared for them)

He learned a valuable lesson and to his credit, owned up to his mistake
