We don't only have Alphonso Davies. We also have 19 years old Gent striker Jonathan David. In less than a season, earned the starting spot on the team. This article calls him a bigger talent than Alphonso Davies.

Noticed in some comments that they played him as a left back, is that correct? You think he has the defensive capabilities to have a future there?

With the right foot, too! Not a simple chance. Good for him. I had been under the impression that he was no longer with the 1st team.

Just don't lose them like you lost a few talents in the past who passed on representing Canada.

He is capable of playing Left back, attacking Midfield and as a forward on both wing. hat's why he's such a phenom. His versatility makes Canada a dangerous unpredictable squad that can add more firepower up front by moving him to the back

They had sent him to Bayern II for playing time as he was on the bench. He was immediately recalled has he was one of the best during that game. he manager had already said that Davies is already ahead of the entire U23 team

Canada has 2 phenoms thank to Jonathan David who in the course of less than 2 years went from amateur in Ottawa with a value of $0 to main striker of KAA Gent in Belgium, scoring in league, Europa and Senior team competition with a value in the millions. Bundesliga clubs are tracking him to acquire him

Think that depends on your definition of 'young'. I'd say he's a year or 2 too old to consider.

To make the conversation as interesting as possible U20 would be my cutoff.

U23 would commonsensically the best way to define it since that's the highest age group that plays official youth tournaments. But the problem there is that with the limited resume that U23 Mexican players have, they might create a tendency to be treated as out of contention (despite playing regularly in a top 10 worldwide league) simply on the basis that they play in Mexico. While some of the US's best U23 players are getting minutes in Europe, if for no other reason than because they're largely not expensive players and some don't take foreign player slots. The bias to PT in Europe is common, and it's the reason US fans might scratch their heads at seeing that someone who plays consistently in BL could be outplayed by a local MX player.

Once Pulisic is out of contention, using U23 as the cutoff will lead to the usual stalemate of US fans claiming so-and-so is better because he plays most games for a midtable German team, and Mexicans saying that so-and-so who plays for Club América and starts for the MXNT is better, with a Canadian thrown in here and there for shits and giggles.

Both David and Davies are legit right up there but I guess all those European writers are mentioning them "for shits and giggles".

    You're the expert
