your stats are a little short. he has 13G and 10A in 31 appearances. He had a hand in the majority of our goals in the Hex. Besides the goals and assists, he also drew free kicks that were converted and had rebounds put in.
Being drunk and rude around people going through a tragedy is extremely disrespectful. However, there’s a massive difference from that and what was said that they they were making light of 9/11. Two very different things.
So is the talk about Pulisic is better suited to be an 8 instead of a Winger or 10 because his decent but slow start in the EPL.
He's better suited to be an 8 than a 10 or a scoring winger at Chelsea because as a club player in 94 appearances he's got 13 goals and 9 assists. As I've said, my guess is that if he settles into a regular role at Chelsea, it will be more as an 8 than as an attacking winger or 10 - this year. He's 20? He'll get better.
I disagree with you on this, but it has been said in thid thread CP is a force multiplier. He has the ability to create something special out of nothing. There is no official soccer term for danger creator, but Pulisic creates dangerous situations for defenses. It is kind of like the goal where the keeper spilled the ball, (got fouled whatever the goal stood) that allowed a goal to happen. He made that goal by causing the spill. His defense is not good enough to be an 8. He is bang average at defending and appears to have little interest in doing it for very long stretches. if he was playing an 8 role they would get overrun in the midfield even worse than they are now.
He's super (bang?) active. And, he's a good defender when called upon to do it. He's a better defender than Bradley or Trapp, I'm not saying he should be playing at the 6. I'm saying that he won't end the season as a regular at the winger role, or as a 10 at Chelsea. Time will tell. We have a long time to find out. Yes, he was instrumental in that goal, poking the goal at the keeper. He also was a big part of the build up, too. Having watched the match, I thought he played fine. He needs to work on shooting with his left - opponents are giving him the left and he's not taking it.
And before Ribery was 22, he had 4 goals and 8 assists in 42 club matches. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to directly compare those players, I don't think they are necessarily very similar or will have similar careers... but I think this should suffice to highlight the fact that you're not exactly looking at the full picture. In terms of dribbling, advancing the ball, and touches in opponent's box, CP has already performed on a very high level for a damn good team in a top 4 league. I'm not looking at the numbers, however I think some of that was elite-level play, and in some of the related metrics he was elite for European youth players. Despite not being elite on some other attacking terms, like raw xG or xA over the course of a single season for instance, he's still been way up there, comparing favorably to guys like Firmino or Griezmann or Malcom before they popped after turning 21/22, in a stat like combined xG+A per 90. I'm not even one of the superfans that ignores CP's mistakes or anything... but he's certainly not an 8. If he's playing there, it's out of desperation of SOME kind. If Chelsea were healthy he'd never see the pitch as an "8".
Goals and assists is a horrible way of sorting out what positions players should play. Pulisic is most adept getting in behind a defense and running at defenders. He isn’t a traditional winger or 10 but that doesn’t make him an 8. I can just about guarantee he will not see the field as an 8 for Chelsea. He’s got to improve but he hasn’t been horrible either. Not that it matters or is the most reliable but Transfermark has 90 appearances with 13 goals and 18 assists as a 17 to 20 year old in the German top flight. We do agree on 1 thing. He’s 20 (turning 21 this month) and he will get better.
Production is a good way to measure whether someone is a fit for playing as a 10, or an attacking winger. Puli isn't going to play center forward. He isn't going to displace Mount or Barkley as the center attacking midfielder. His shot is either at one of those wing spots, or one of the other midfield spots. If it's one of the other midfield spots, he will be, essentially, and 8. You (all of you) may want to argue about the number you want to call that. But, it isn't a 10, and it wouldn't be attacking winger. So, essentially, y'all are saying that the only way Puli gets regular playing time will be as an attacking winger. I disagree.
CP is not an 8 nor a 6. Any coaches who wants to use him there is insane. I could see him potentially used as a forward like an Aguerro, Paco, etc. before I see him in an 8/6 role.
Who is talking about using him as a 6? It's always fun to pretend someone said something they didn't so you can shoot it down, amirite????
He's not an 8 and while willing and puts in effort, his defending is at best adequate for an attacker. If Chelsea gets to the point of needing to play Pulisic as a true 8 for significant minutes, they are in deep trouble.
Call it what you want. I don't think he ends up in the rotation at attacking winger, center forward, or the attacking mid Barkley/Mount role. But, I think there's a good chance he ends up a regular in the rotation, at a midfield role that is not the Mount/Barkley attacking role. What are we going to call that?
Taking him away from the more attacking positions is not a very likely decision to be taken by Chelsea anytime soon... for fairly obvious reasons.
So again I ask, what is it that he is actually supposed to have said/done to victims of the 911 attacks? Because this seems to me to prove that despite being a pissed up idiot that day he didn't actually say or do anything about 911 attacks!!! In other words..............a made up story.
Hello. Your comments about Christian Pulisic are perfectly welcome in this thread. They're thoughtful and the fact that your praise of him is guarded and/or focused on his potential is not at all a problem. Nor is it a problem if you or anyone else criticizes Pulisic's play. Thoughtful rebuttals are also welcomed. As long as everyone stays within the guidelines for this forum, it's fair play. That said, we now seem to have reached the point where you're arguing that a grown man laughing (I'm not sure if he's one who stripped) and throwing peanuts at people was merely indulging in generic drunken idiocy and furthermore that suggestions it had anything to do with 9/11 are fantasy. This is despite the fact that it occurred in the days immediately following the attacks (indeed, Lampard and his friends were at loose ends because their match had been cancelled because of the attacks) and contemporary accounts of the event describe the men as targeting distressed, Americans whom the attacks stranded on their way home. I'd like to think Lampard, et alia, spent at least part of the next day thinking "Oh my God, I did what? Those poor people!" I'm sure Lampard learned from the experience. I'm sure he regrets it. I'm also sure it had to do with 9/11. Which brings me to my next point. This is the post that began the off topic, uh, stuff that forced me to post from my day job in my mom's basement. It had to do with 9/11, but it has very little to do with this thread's main topic. Let's drop it here, shall we? Which is a (typically convoluted) way of me saying I'll be deleting any further developments of this theme. CP is interesting enough in his own right that we don't need adornments like this.
Can we get a moderator to put an end to this off topic Bull Sh!t? I have no idea why ANYONE is talking about Lampard in any way other than how he deploys CP in this thread.
So, what do you think is going to happen? Will he be a regular as an attacking winger? Will he displace Barkley or Mount in the central attacking role? My guess is that he settles into a midfield role, alongside Barkley or Mount. Which is, effectively, an 8
