Just looking at it...the USMNT is becoming increasingly the FC Dallas senior senior squad.

McKennie, Cannon, Gonzales and Pomykal are academy products.

Jesus Ferreira, Chris Richards, Edwin Cerillo, Brandon Servania, Ricardo Pepi, Carrera, Thomas Roberts,

Hollingshead, Zimmerman, Acosta, and Hyndman all came through the system to one degree or another.

*All of the boldened players I consider to be part of the current USMNT player pool.

FC Dallas is pumping midfielders out like nobody's business. We need another program to develop some strikers. Hey academy directors out there...that would be a good way to separate your program from the rest: specialize in developing forwards for the national team. Same goes for keepers.

Its not really the thread for it.....................but I believe we're at 36 FCD academy products going on to sign professional contracts in one form or another There are a bunch more that could be added to your list.

A large number of FCD academy players are dual nationals. Mexico and Liga MX scouts are "on call" at all times. In the past I talked to these Mexican-American kids within the FCD academy (like 10 years ago), and they almost all said the same thing. They love both countries, and this is a very, very difficult decision for them. Lots of folks pushing them in different directions. Most of the time they don't come out and say "I'm committed to the US (or Mexico)" like Carrera did. They leave all options open.

FYI, @bshredder mentioned in the youth forum that the USSF made another run at Folarin Balogun of Arsenal in this window. Turned down. Good to hear that we keep trying.............................

So it seems that we finally have some semblance of confirmation that Jesus Ferreira of FCD has gotten his citizenship. Still Colombia-eligible too of course.

2019 has been a breakout year for Ferreira, who had only made two appearances for the club before the season’s start. FCD head coach Luchi Gonzalez has been impressed with the way Ferreira has handled the responsibility of being a consistent starter for the team, and he’s seen tremendous growth throughout the season.

I think there was one thing he did really well this year — he got his citizenship,” Gonzalez said, jokingly. “Jesus has earned opportunities. He never got to play with the U.S. youth system because of his status, so I know he was really excited to get his citizenship and now take advantage of this opportunity at the international level. Similar to Paxton, it’s just a product of him working for this family and for this jersey. He’s going to prepare for his opportunity with the Olympic group while being with his teammates this weekend.”

And surprisingly it doesn’t diminish your love of either. It’s like loving your kids....

I thought Ferreira was still waiting on a FIFA waiver. They don't mention it but the inference is that he's approved to play so either he didn't need a waiver or he got one.

Don't think he needs the waiver yet to play in a friendly. He will need it to play in qualifying though.

    Sure. I didn’t say otherwise.

If you have pride in both, you treat them both with respect. You don’t use one up and abandon it for the other when it suits you. You make the decision carefully, honestly, and with integrity.

If you have pride, it will show on the field.

Playing for one team and moving to another isn’t “using one up and abandoning it”. As long as one is upfront about the dual-nationality and tells the program that it’s a binding commitment, it’s a choice.

    Have you never dated?

EEEEESSHH. We keep going round and round on this. Even Luchi Gonzalez seems confused. After saying last week that Jesus Ferreira had gotten his citizenship, Luchi now says he hasn't gotten it yet. I like the fact that we called him up to U23 camp to involve him, though. Can't play in the U23 friendly against Japan, though.

Why? I thought it was a closed-door game, which counts for nothing, not even as a friendly. I've always understood they are essentially controlled scrimmages.

You can pretty much play however and whoever in a closed door match. An official friendly is supposed to be limited to eligible players, but there isn't much likelihood of being punished if you do play someone ineligible (e.g., Dan Potts).

I'd say it's not really an official friendly because it's not full national teams. I guess they could ask if the other team has a problem. Also, he'd better be close to becoming eligible or he shouldn't play anyway.

Well...…………………...I was going by what Luchi said in that column. That Ferreira was filling in positionally at the u23 camp where needed, but won't play in the game.

If Japan's OK with, I don't see why it would matter in a closed-door scrimmage.

We do have good players to use who we know are eligible NOW in the match itself. Sebastian Soto, Mason Toye, Haji Wright, etc. up top. Ferreira's been playing a little as a #10 with FCD recently, and you can use players like Brenden Aaronson for that role.

Do we need to push the issue right now? Not really. BUt its nice to bring him in and be part of the group. We clearly believe he'll have citizenship by the time the qualifying tournament comes around, or it wouldn't be worth the time.

Well, the only reason I posted was that you said "can't play" not "won't play".
