JL2 is still under J League pyramid.
Again, if it was just about "goals"... he would "deserve" it too as that is the argument for Kim SW (not to mention, Lee JH is also selected while playing in div 2 of K League).

Haha sure it is. But with that pisspoor logic we can compare many players playing for minor leagues and saying they score more goals. Come on.

I can see your point but is J2 worse than CSL? I doubt it..
3 good people in a team still cannot make up for 8 other very shitty players.

Why is it piss poor logic considering we have a manager who selected a player in CSL & K League 2? It is fair game based on selection..

Also, name a player who has scored more goals than Lee Yongjae even in minor league this season? Especially in Asia...

Again, the argument for Kim SW is because he scored the most in "Asia"

edit - basically, 3 players who don't "deserve" to be with KNT at this point. need to move the F on instead of constantly selecting players who failed (not to mention, past their peak). Mike Havenaar is shit, scored goals in Eredivisie but was always ignored because he is piss poor as a player for JNT. Same logic should apply to Kim SW.. who have more than enough opportunity to stake a claim, only for him to fail every time.

Suk is one of the 3 forwards playing in top flight football but ljh and ksw are picked ahead of him. Kfa must have him on a blacklist or all our managers have been idiots which they all were. I like bento but he is srsly flawed in the call ups

Well, I can't explain all Bento's choices of course. There is a degree of subjectivity in his choices, anyway. We've noticed he relies a lot on players who got constantly called up under Stielike, STY area (JWY, JSJ, LY, JHS until he got banned...) and he's not the kind of coach who innovates a lot (though he called up the young prospects but he's not stupid enough to ignore them).

Nevermind, KSW's call up was totally predictable and I still think it's not really unfair. He's by far in the top 5 Korean strikers at the moment (even though, I have to admit I don't like his style). So I still wonder why it makes so much noise...
Lee Jeong Hyeop call-up is more weird in my opinion.

You guys ever think some players turn down a callup in private?

Why though. It's a great honor to play for your country and if you don't want to play for your country anymore you can retire.

It seems like a great honor to fans but it could be a burden to some players with the travel fatigue, injury risk, and extra criticism from fans who expect club-level soccer from NTs.

There's an American player who reportedly turned down NT callups recently and it made me wonder.

SHJ's repeated omissions just doesn't make any sense. Either he's turning them down or the KFA is blackballing him for a non-football reason.

I almost hope it's the former but until he's selected, I get more confirmation bias about the KFA's shadiness and involvement in player selection.

Is he? Strictly speaking based on his NT record. Lee JHs call up is less controversial for me because he fits tactically w/ Bento (but also as alternative to injured Ji DW).

Kim SW? he doesn't fit at all, also.. again, has poor NT record in games matter even compared to Lee JH. the whole argument for Kim SW.. again 1- because of his recent goal scoring for club (but didn't matter at all in the past, still crap for NT) 2- as plan B (again, never worked.. even when the team was built around him and Lee DG by Choi KH in the past).

edit - anyways, the 3 players in discussion don't belong with NT at this point. Bento should be ridiculed all out (even if i support him as manager for the moment) on his player selection & not "justify" his selections.

of course, i also have a problem with defense.. especially the FB selections. all are old or will be 30+ by 2022. all are crap imo... it is frustrating he is working with extremely small pool (from a very small pool of Korean players in general). i wanted to see youngsters get their chance in early stage, as it allows room for errors and etc (eventually cut down to strong squad/XI toward latter stage of WCQs). Bento is going all out from start & imo.. he is Fd if he doesn't get results (of which, he didn't at the Asian Cup).

it's so obviously inept that it must be driven off of short term goal to get results rather than a longterm goal for WC success

ST goal is unavoidable as long as the managers are changed so often

If you mean the matches they had planned with Syria, the Syrian team had visa issues and so they had to cancel

I love that Son is calling out his teammates. For so long, it seemed like players treated a callup as a vaca trip back to Korea, or to hang out with their NT friends, but the "happy to be here" mentality needs to ********ing go.

That mentality breeds inconsistency and helps explain the low confidence and low urgency showings from the team throughout the past few years.

If the team is performing poorly, everyone on the team needs to be held accountable. The culture of scapegoating managers who train them 4 days every few months only reduces player accountability so that their ass is covered even if they don't perform well.

Never been a big fan of the USMNT I would prefer them to lose every match because the media would always provide too much coverage than they actually deserve. They always hype the team and I would get annoyed of it knowing that the team will always disappoint.

According to French media, KFA has approached former Lyon women's team manager, Reynald Pedros. Not really sure if it's to become the manager of the senior, women, or youth team.

"I was approached by Korea, " he said on Saturday. They want someone who takes care of the training, who gives his opinion on all the selections, a little more than a coach. The first approach was good." (google translated)

Lyon won the UEFA Women's CL 2x, league title 2x, and the Coupe de France when Pedros was the manager from 2017-2019. Was also voted the best FIFA coach (women) of 2018.
