When DCU won the U.S. Open Cup in 1996, it did so on Oct. 30, 10 days after it had won the MLS title. So it was the reigning MLS champ. Not really what you meant, I suppose.

Black Twitter. I tried them a couple Saturdays back between my MLS viewing when it was just starting to pop up. I didn't have to wait for the sandwich and I'm pretty sure I was the only one in the place who ordered the sandwiches. I had to wait for unrelated boneless chicken. When that was finally ready, I had to wait for fries. I got a free apple pie for my troubles.

Gasper is foolish. He kept pursuing even after the caution. Just dumb.

Atlanta follow in the footsteps of Shawsheen Indians, Chicago Bricklayers, St. Louis Simpkins–Ford, Harmarville Hurricanes, McIlvaine Canvasbacks and New York Pancyprian-Freedoms.

    FT: 2-1

Loons owned the 2nd half but couldn't finish the drill. Kudos to them for the effort.

Adrian Heath complementing the ATL players. Classy.

Region III soccer is getting better and better! This time last year, us in Houston won the USOC. Nice to witness the trophy stay in our region.
Shout out to a 3rd trophy in less than a year for Atlanta and their people.
    Well done y'all!!!

Wonderwall?! Are they riffing on MN or paying tribute?

That was Champagne Supernova. You only get to hear Wonderwall if you win.

I think "old" and "unhip" probably describes most people who sing Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall. The early/mid 90s were a long time ago.

If you think Oasis is young and hip, then you're REALLY REALLY old and unhip.

Sad thing is I was a prime music aficionado when Oasis were making it big (though I preferred The Stone Roses) and still have the CD collection to prove it. Guess they were simply one of those bands whose songs I knew but couldn't quote or name by title. (Obviously!)

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go count down the days until I'm eligible for AARP.

    Thanks for the fun history!

I'd be reluctant to play against the Chicago Bricklayers. Seems very risky

Question: Without thinking about the international calendar right now, if MLS is able to regularly end their playoffs early like we'll see this year would there be any appeal to stretching out the OC competition such that the final is played after the MLS playoffs? Would it help raise the appeal of the event to fans and sponsors if the final was given a bigger spotlight than a midweek date during the end the MLS regular season? Just curious as to the thoughts of others.

Having it after the MLS Cup final might be a bad idea... I feel like once the MLS offseason begins, attention to any matches would be way down. That said, if you wanted to have the last three weekends of the postseason be "MLS semifinal - Open final - MLS final", I think that would be really appealing.

In the early MLS era, the Open Cup final was often after MLS Cup. Really turned it into an afterthought. It also can involve a non-playoff team that would have to wait around forever with no games. If they did something like this this year, they would have to wait until after the November international window, playing it on Thanksgiving week. A non-playoff team would be waiting seven weeks. Not to mention what it would do to the rare non-MLS team.
