So maybe US Soccer and GGG were right and Schalke were wrong with their alarming assessment?

Schalke never gave an alarming assessment. The US media reported 8-10 weeks, Schalke reported a tear, which could've happened depending on the severity of the strain.

Forgive me this already exists and please merge it if it does. I searched and couldn’t find a Wes thread.

Weston is now firmly entrenched as a Schalke starting midfielder entering this season as a 20-year old. His current coach David Wagner recently added him to team leadership and called him one of the key players in the bundesliga. Wagner said he was committed to Weston’s development as a 6 and an 8.

Weston is set for a potential star turn this season. He’s a special talent.

He also had some real moments of brilliance in the recent gold cup.

Has another US player ever had that kind of sustained club success at 20? Even Pulisic has been a spot starter at Dortmund.

Weston could be in for a huge year. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Just wait until a certain someone gets in here and shuts down all this Wes talk. Who cares that he’s starting for Schalke and already played UCL (and well might I add) all at 19/20. Weve got a pair of 24 year olds in the MLS that are better and now another 20 year old in first pro season that’s far far better.

Pulisic was a consistent starter for two years when healthy. He lost his job only really last year. He's accomplished more and has a higher potential, IMO.

That said, that's not really a knock on Wes. I think people underestimate how much potential improvement is out there and how good he can get. He has the potential to be a truly balanced box to box -- able to play defensive stopper but also play forward and make a sweet through ball or strike on goal.

Yes, he's got to focus more and be consistent in game, but man, while we've had some good true CM, I think Weston brings a ton of offensive upside that many of our best, like JJ, didn't have.

Loved how centrally he came much of last game - showing for the backline to turn and carry or distribute. If he can get really proficient collecting, turn the ball around and crashing the box, that's a skill set that's very useful on many teams.

I think sometimes people forget how young Wes and Christian are and even with a couple years of first team experience they'll gave ups and downs.

Either way biggest thing I think Wes needs to work on is discipline and having watched Schalke's first 2 games he I'd getting better with that. I expect to see a lot of growth from him

He's also getting pretty good at breaking lines with his passing. The young man can finish as well.

Add to those attributes his physicality, aerial proficiency, and leadership and you have a really high quality prospect at his age and experience.

He is becoming more consistent by the day.

    Absolute beast today against Hertha.

It is my amateur and unqualified opinion that if we gave him the #6 role instead of Bradley, Trapp, etc. That spot would be his for the next decade.

Yes I know he’s an 8 and if Adams is ever healthy again he probably makes more sense there and that the litmus test for that spot is being immobile and occasionally hitting long diagonals, etc.

    I’m just saying...

    Awesome.

Truly, whenever I think of how I want to say "happy birthday" to that special someone, I think, "Only an animated-skateboarding-half-pipe-with-soccer-ball video will do."

Well played, English Bundesliga. Well played.

Just want to show some "facts" on our talent level compared to the past.

In roughly their first 1,250 Minutes USMNT minutes:

    Weston McKennie - 6 goals, 3 Assists

Michael Bradley- 1 goal, 1 assist

    Next...…..

It’s a shame Adams is still injured, or else we would have two midfielders consistently placing top of the table.

Thank you. That article really focus's on Wes's offensive contribution. When I watch, he seems like a defense beast. Are there metrics for that? Dribblers turned, back passes forced?

I haven't found anything beyond the whoscored type interceptions, tackles, etc. I can't imagine anyone taking issue with describing him as a defensive beast, but this is BS so...

Amazing Article. Video evidence was his last game before the covid-19 ( vs Hoffenhiem).

Though, it will now trigger a Bradley's First assault on McKennie's career.

You got it - McKennie and Bradley are definitely at odds right now. Wait a second:

It's great to see McKennie leading again by gathering the past and present leadership of the US National Team (and more!)

That's dosent mean shit. And where did i say they are at odds?

You are gullible at worst. my word.

a video. geez. anybody can come together for a video.

Its behind the scenes that matter.

We are the worst fan base in the world because we still passive aggressively defend a ruthless player who makes it all about him and an entire decade of people have been trying to tell us this.
