It’s across the Caspian Sea, so geographically makes sense. Also I think maybe that friendly might be a good opportunity to bring in the young ones pending if Bento is going to bring the kids to the trip. Waiting on his squad reveal as well as the KNT playing again

    Think Sunday evening.

But the media is trying their best at pushing the idea of KSW's return to the roster...hope not!

Indeed it’s the return of the Wookie... great to see LKI hopefully he’s able to blow smoke up Marcelino’s butt by having the chance to play and show why people rate him highly. Interesting for LSW, is he doing an under the radar transfer negotiations so he decline to join the team or maybe he’s hurt? Because if it’s the latter why is LCY called up despite get a knock

bento's had a policy of not starting players on their initial callup. i hope KSW doesn't get minutes.

has he become a better target man in china?

what kind of midfielder is lee donggyeong?

Ulsan's donggyeong seems like Nam Tae hee's replacement for the time being. He also seems to have a knack for goals especially in the central area. He's still raw and likes to use his left foot.

What happened to KMH is he hurt? Cause LY isn’t going to be our 2022 WC starting right back. If no injuries to LSW or KMH makes this one of the more questionable squad call up by Bento.

Yeah KMH is out injured and LSW isnt picked due to speculation he is not getting enough playing time or he opted out due to potential transfer.

Can't really understand why Korean journalists/netizens are so obsessed/happy about the Kim Shinwook's call-up. The dude has been scoring goals against Chinese defenders which is nothing to be impressed about at all. Not to mention, he has done the same thing in the K-League before, but no one cared.

Tbh, I'm not a fan of KSW but let's not complain, he deserves his call. He has scored more than 1 goal per game lately. Yes it's Chinese super league but are the defenses there weaker than in Korea ? Not much more given that the best K league defenders have all signed in China (KYG, PJS, KMJ...) and that Chinese teams are doing better than Korean ones in ACL.

well, since his move.. he played against Korean defender once & he got shut down.

    https://www.transfermarkt.com/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3156519

also, Korean defenders had hard time of getting league mins because of foreign quota rules (along w/ constant change in the rule).

anyways, deserved? maybe if he was a young player but Kim SW has 10 yr or so of KNT history, scoring goals for fun in K League but constantly disappointing for NT. this flirtation with Kim SW (along w/ Korean media to constantly push for him.. for some reason) seems like endless cycle, similar to the flirtation w/ Lee DG (at least he was good as young player) in the past.

edit - btw, i don't buy he is good plan B or is useful against Asian minnows or whatever.. considering.. again, his record

Too bad we arent playing any European teams anytime soon. European defenders will expose this fake ass bitch like Sweden did.

I'm just curious. So why wasn’t he called up whenever he was informed with Jeonbuk? Also, it's not like we have not seen the man play before with the NT. 뻥축구 is always bound to happen whenever he is playing and it is terrible to watch because there are times when he doesn't know how to use his own height.

CSL success in the ACL is due to their offensive mercenaries, not the Chinese defenders. Teams like Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou Evergrande would be nothing without them.

Also, success in the ACL does not translate into NT success. If that were the case, the Chinese FA/government wouldn't be naturalizing so many Brazilians/half-Chinese to play for their national team.

Well, the dude is very effective within Asia against AFC opponents. His performance for his club, in the ACC and national team(against AFC opponents) shows that.

However, as the world cup shows, his advantages(height, physicality) are neutralized at the next level and he gets exposed badly.

So he might not be a bad option to qualify for the WC itself.

He wasn't called up before because he doesn't fit Bento's philosophy. However his stats from the CSL are probably too hard for Bento to ignore(even if it is the CSL). Not to mention there aren't too many CF options outside of Hwang Euijo to pick from.

Shouldn't it just be HEJ or SHJ? Though Bento doesn't really seem to rate SHJ for some reason. Another option that puzzles me is why Bento also picked Lee Jeong Hyeop. Of course saying this, I bet ya Wook and Lee both score goals when they play.

You're reading too literally my words, lol. I just said considering his current form the call is everything but scandalous, he has scored more goals than any other Korean players based in Asia. That said, I'm not denying what you said, disappointing at national level, not young... We all know that but I think Bento gives credit to the current form.

Honestly I think foreign coaches like Stielike, Bento tend to overrate CSL compared to K League, it may explain why he received a call. And moreover, his form now is just incredible, I don't remember he scored that much in K League.

Well, if we had currently a player scoring that much in K league, nobody would contest the call.

I'm not going to go into detail to know which league is the best, that's not the point. I'm just saying the leagues' level are more or less the same and K league defenses are not known to be especially solid (far from it). On one hand, I don't know why medias were making apparently so much noise around this call-up but on the other hand, I don't know why discuss further that.

We all know KSW is not going to revolutionize our team but I just think Bento just didn't want to ignore him considering his form.

well, Lee Yongjae is scoring goals for fun in J League. unlike Hwang UJ at Gamba, where it was put on a platter for him to score in "spurts".. Lee Yonjae is carrying his team & scoring consistently. if it was just based on league goals, Lee Yonjae ties with Kim SW with 17 so far. before Kim SWs little spurt, Lee Yongjae was ahead of the pack by at least 7+ goals or so for all Korean players based in Asia.

i am not endorsing Lee Yonjae for the KNT (similar to I don't support Lee JH being included.. and Kim SW) but i still don't buy "deserved" or giving "credit based on current form" excuse. if so, even Lee Yonjae "deserves" a chance or guys like Hwang IB should be dropped from the squad considering how little he has shown at MLS (or for KNT senior team in general).

You know Yong Jae plays in JL2 right? A little difference there.
