Looking around Europe at the dawn of the new seasons, plenty of #ElTriEng mainstays are ready for big years. An unmatched influx of rising #USMNT stars into top leagues, though, should be reason for concern for Mexico fans &, more importantly, directors: https://t.co/ZbPE9q8O22— Jon Arnold (@ArnoldcommaJon) August 9, 2019 Things you LOVE to see: pic.twitter.com/dmO3In1CSY— HalfSpaces (@blharreld) August 9, 2019
Relatively speaking, young American Yth players are inexpensive. It makes sense in a league like the Eredivisie where maximizing profits via the sales of players, that teams there would scout our rising stars. Hopefully this wave will produce and encourage more Dutch teams to sign our players.
I’ve heard that Bundesliga youth contracts are like €4k a month, I’ve heard €3k net, and €10k at Bayern. I think a non-EU U-20 gets about €17k.
Not for Dutch clubs. As a non EU player they're very expensive. South American talents have played competitive matches in adult leagues, which gives them a head start to US talents for risking that high salary required.
I meant that acquiring Americans usually means no transfer fee or something cheap as opposed to having to pay South American clubs, or other European clubs a transfer fee. So paying a straight non-EU salary is cheaper than paying a transfer fee + EU wage. Germany obviously has an even bigger advantage which is why they're so heavily recruiting young Americans but the biggest clubs in the Netherlands with Jong teams can take a chance on an American or two if they believe in the upside.
August 2: That is really not something that can be said with any certainty, given all the variables. Dest making his Ajax debut on August 10:
We crashed out of the qualifications for the WC2018 because we put in a defender that had no CL/EL matches under his belt, just a couple of Eredivisie matches. So zero top level experience. Before Dest even has reached a cv that warrants attention, it will be a long time. Koeman isnot an idiot. Plus there are others with a cv that reads/fits better and of his age that are in front of him.
Tangentially related to USYNTs. It looks like Earnie Stewart has been promoted. So that means a new US soccer general manager needs to be hired to oversee UYSNTs............... U.S. Soccer announces Kate Markgraf as USWNT GM. Earnie Stewart is promoted to a sporting director role that oversees all technical aspects of U.S. Soccer, including #USMNT, #USWNT and #USYNTs. Will now hire a new #USMNT GM.— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) August 12, 2019
This is great news. In what other organization can you take over a year to hire one of your most important positions, leave 3/4 vacancies, lose your DA Director...and still get promoted. Anyone know where I can find an application?
Most big companies and government agencies do exactly that. Get rid of the poor worker / manager in your department by talking them up to another department. They're their problem then.
To anyone upset that Ernie Stewart was promoted: better him to work with that giant bureaucracy than you or me! I don’t assume that kind of promotion to be a blessing. He can have it!
In don't understand. Fans have been complaining since Couva that USSF is inadequately structured and horribly run by non soccer people. Now that the organization is developing an actual org chart with soccer people running soccer departments, fans are still pissed off.
I don’t think anyone is pissed off, per say. I think it’s more comedy from the Fed. Guy is brought in, hires GB, can’t fill the many YNT coaching positions and then is promoted.
Wicky was a pretty damn good hire if you ask me. Kreis is there for the 23s. Ramos is still in with the 20s. No other position is really very important or pressing.
In addition to keeping in touch with the top USYNT prospects, hopefully somebody at US Soccer is going after dual nationals like Balogun and Siebatcheu... PL2 | Arsenal’s 🏴 Folarin Balogun (18) was the 2nd highest scorer last season in the U18 Premier League. 🥈In his 1st game of the season today up a league with the U23s? 🆙HATTRICK. ⚽️⚽️⚽️A quick note - he’s eligible to play for 🏴, 🇳🇬, and 🇺🇸. 😉⚔️ pic.twitter.com/vNhdk9aJtQ— Football Wonderkids (@fbwonderkids) August 12, 2019
Dest just came on at the half and helped Ajax seal a spot in a home-away playoff with APOEL that, if they win, takes them back to the Champions League group stage.Think he deserves a phone call (and a fruit basket) from Berhalter at this point. https://t.co/G83ie1rtZB— scuffed (@scuffedpod) August 13, 2019
ESPN Source: Chile approach U.S. youth Soto over switch https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-...urce-chile-approach-us-youth-soto-over-switch U.S. youth international and Hannover 96 forward Sebastian Soto has been contacted by Chile manager Reinaldo Rueda, with an eye towards the striker playing for La Roja, according to a source with knowledge of the approach.
How dare they do that. Don't they know all they're doing is inflating his ego and will turn him into a spoiled footballer like all the rest.
The usmnt twitter fanbase is full of pathetic reactionaries and reading those replies just reinforces that fact. How dumb do you have to be to think that Chile’s senior manager contacting one of our youth players reflects poorly on anyone at US Soccer. 10 years ago we we were not developing so many talented dual nationals as we are now. As the DA system improves so too will foreign NT attention on domestic developed players Yeah man, the only thing standing between Soto and NT attention is Zardes, it has nothing to do w/ his incredibly small first team resume. Very healthy that US fans latch onto a new whipping boy every couple years
I can’t imagine anyone thinking it reflects poorly on US Soccer, but nothing would surprise me. I actually think it is a compliment to the US in the fact a recent South American Champion wants one of our kids. What reflects poorly on US Soccer is the fact Chile’s Manager is making contact with our player while our own MNT Manager probably hasn’t. We don’t know that for sure, but their are pages in here about our lack of contact by the full team staff to our YNT prospects.
Let's be honest. Our fan base is pathetic. In relative terms, our fan base is much further behind than our talent pool.
He just played in the U20 World Cup. He has had extensive contact and involvement with the US program. Whether or not Gregg Berhalter has given him an atta boy really shouldn't impact his feelings toward the program. I can see where a player in a different situation would warrant contact, but this seems crazy to imply that Chile could suddenly jump ahead of the US in his heart just because the coach gave him a call.
Here's a much better question: How dumb do you have to be to think that the US national team coach, general manager, or sporting director, should NOT bother contacting top USYNT prospects when high level representatives from other senior national teams such as Chile's manager and Mexico's sporting director are actively doing so? Hmmm...
