******** AB. On the other hand, this "buy up craft breweries" strategy gets a fair amount of press, but in the end doesn't do much to change the landscape of the beer industry in this country. There are more than 7,000 breweries in the country now, and only a tiny number of those are owned by mega brewers. Meanwhile, the macro side of the industry continues to shrink while the micro side continues to grow (albeit at a slower pace than had been the case). Anyway, good to know I can bypass Platform's offerings in the beer aisle now.

The macros can get more shelf space in stores. Huge difference right there.

Yep. Yet they're still losing market share and have been for years. Buying a handful of former craft labels won't change that trend.

FCC signed Joe Gyau. I doubt he'll play this weekend, but he could cause problems for us in two weeks.

What sucks is the kids are drinking more whiskey and driving up the price. Stupid kids. I deserve to drink cheap in my old age.

This game needs to be 3 points and a fairly easy 3 points at that. I think 3 goals (maybe 2 with a clean sheet) is what I want to see.

I thought they were buying the craft labels for the innovation, not so much market share. Back in the day, most of AB's product was lagers. I don't think they made any ales. Nothing dark, or the darkest was a Michelob Bock.

I guess the shelf space is an issue for those that only buy beer at big box stores. Personally, I either go to the brewery, a local beer/wine shop, or Jungle Jim's.

I like the pairing of a local craft brewery tap room with a local food vendor (food truck or in-house). Honestly, that's where I drink most of the beer I drink. If there is something I like, I'll get a growler.

I still like my midfield of Diaz - Sosa - Argudo. Sosa will give you 60, then you bring in Accam and move Argudo to the middle, or you bring in Mohktar central and leave Argudo outside, or you take out Sosa and put in Romario or Hamilton and switch to a 4-4-2.

That said, we'll probably see Guzman in the middle...

That's a pretty decent move by them. Dude is very dangerous when healthy. I haven't followed him lately (mostly because when I do he is injured) soI don't know what his current health level or playing form is.

Can we get a jungle Jim's in Columbus? It's one of only a few things I love about Cincinnati. Yes I like Skyline & Gold Star but Larosa's pizza sucks - but so does Donato's.

Assuming Francis, Keita, & Williams (Josh) out. Worst case.

Room; Afful, Mensah, Crognale, Maloney; Trapp, Artur; Diaz, Santos, Argudo; Zardes.

Bench: Kempin; Clark, Guzman; Accam, Mokhtar, Sosa; R. Williams.

We would have no bench defenders. Though Rico could probably play CB in a pinch. If Maloney looks lost, move Argudo or Santos back & bring on Mokhtar/Sosa.

Well, if buying someone else's innovative product makes one more innovative, then I guess that logic applies. But A-B doesn't seem to have any interest in integrating any of the techniques or styles from these acquired brands into their own beers. And to be fair, A-B owns absolutely world class breweries and employs very talented brewers. They don't need some tiny craft brewer to show them how to brew a Belgian tripel or a decent hazy IPA.

They are acquiring these breweries to buy into a chunk of the only consistently growing segment of the beer industry. With the Platform acquisition, A-B announced that it has also re-branded it's formerly titled “The High End” portfolio of acquired craft breweries into something they now call “Anheuser-Busch’s Brewers Collective.”

I'm sure many of these breweries benefit from the injection of investment capital they might get from A-B and the ability to be distributed nationally. Good for them. I'll admit that I occasionally grab a six pack of Breckenridge's Vanilla Porter, which is a pretty tasty beer. But for the most part, for me, any brewery that's just a subsidiary of A-B, even if they make good beer, just isn't of interest to me anymore. Honestly, I'd be far more interested in buying a honestly labelled A-B bock beer (for example) than a formerly independent craft brewer's version of the same.

But A-B's core business model is based on the huge efficiencies of scale you achieve when brewing only a handful of relatively cheap to produce styles of beer in a dozen or so massive regional breweries and having a comprehensive national distribution network. They're not physically or organizationally structured to brew smaller batches of crafty beer styles. So they've bought a small number of brewers who do that reasonably well, invest in them to boost their production, the integrate them into their distribution network.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying about AB but what other brewery would be bold enough to invent this:

Looks hideous, but I have to admit that it strikes a nerve since I'm so enjoying the inaugural season of Forward Madison in USL League One and their brilliant use of flamingo imagery. Including, for this weekend, a truly inspired ticket/bowling shirt package:

    Booo. That's a false Radler.

My biggest concern for Saturday is just going to be what tactics FCC will be employing. Does bringing Captain Ron on board (see what I did there) immediatly change their tactical approach and formation? I would assume it does, but by how much in his first match?

Porter may have to look at old film of his to see what they may try to do, but even then he may not know for sure as Captain Ron won't know until he starts how the personel will fit what he wants to do. All to say, seems things could be unpredicatable on this weekend, and CoachBot may have to do more on the fly coaching than usual.

I've gone full Mingo. My family has vacations at a lake in the middle of Minnesota occasionally and I've dreamed about bookending that vacation with a Crew at Minn United match the first weekend of the trip and catching a FC Madison match on the way home the following weekend.
