I think chances are pretty high that you'll still see Wondo in a Quakes jersey next season, but from the highlight reel for Rios a lot of his goals seem Wondo-esque.

Good headers, one or two touch finishes, right place in the box, pounce on defensive mistakes...

For fun I checked his FIFA game rating. He’s actually higher ranked than both Wondo and Danny.

    Rios-71
    Hoesen-70
    Wondo-69

His weaknesses appear to be low work rate and defensive effort. If Almeyda fixes that he might be impressive. His beast mode stat is much higher than Hoesen and Wondo.

Vako’s FIFA rating is 75 for reference but his defense score was pretty close to Rios. Interestingly Vako had a lower beast mode score than Rios. When Rios is on he’s a handful....

    OK, let's bump this.

So, Almeyda has said that Carlos is not "the savior" but only another piece to plug in for our collective success, and I would have to assume that that also applies to Mr. Rios as well. But, can we envision a line up, in say, another month, that features these two additions as starters? I usually don't indulge in the masturbatory lineup projections, but since it's relatively late at night...

Here's what, to channel, Mike Krukow on KNBR said, would make my nipples hard:

    Rios (Wondo) Espinosa (Hoesen)

Magnuson (Salinas) Vako Yuell (Judson) Fiero

Thompson (Lopez) Kashia (Cummings) Yungwirth Lima (Marie)

    Vega

    Krukow doesn't know jack sh*t.

    Almeyda is playing a 4-2-3-1, not a 4-4-2.

No way Eriksson plays left mid.
No way Tommy plays left back.
No way he doesn't play Yueill with Judson or Godoy,( unless chasing the game).

If he was to switch to a 4-4-2 it would probably look more like:

    ---------------Rios---------Hoesen--------------
    Vako--------Yueill------Judson------Espinoza
    Lima--------Jugwirth---Kashia------Tommy

    Wondo sub up front
Fierro up front or out wide
    Eriksson and Godoy central midfield
    Lopez or Marie outside back
    Cummings at center back.

I think this is basically right though I think Cummings starts over Kashia and there is no way Magnus isn't in the starting lineup with as well as he's playing (I just threw up a little more). I also think Rios is fighting for Wondo's role and Fierro is fighting for Magnus' role (and could be a backup on the outside too).

There ain't no space for the new guys right now.

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

    Good luck making that work

That was a hypothetical 4-4-2 since the OP had one. I didn't have Magnus starting because he doesn't fit into a 4-4-2 nearly as well as he fits into our current 4-2-3-1, which I don't see Almeyda abandoning any time soon!

I believe Fierro can play multiple positions, even central mid. We need to see Fierro's D, but I think he comes in at left mid or possibly in central mid for Judson. Judson's passing is pretty poor...puts a lot more pressure on Yueill to be the central creator...and more focus from the other team to minimize Yueill's distribution. Yueill needs a better passer with him to balance central midfield...maybe that's Fierro, if he can be a dedicated two way player...which I'm sure Almeyda knows exactly what to expect from him, since he coached him at Chivas.

Mag has done well, but we can still improve our play from that position. Imo, Vako moves into Mag's spot and Rios comes in up top. Danny, Wondo and Salinas as spot starters and impact subs. It will be a dog fight to see plays up top. Need to see Rios play, but I'm guessing he'll bring a stronger presence in the box and improved physical hold up play.

Yeah, he played for Almeyda, so he has to play D to be on the field...kind of built in....just hoping to see if he can also pull it off from central mid.

Appears to be a nice signing. I don't look for him to be replacement for Wondo or anyone. Just brings in additional dept beyond just Danny and Wondo by providing a better option when those two are in a slump. More competitions is always a good thing...

When will he start getting minutes? We could have used new blood against the Crew in the 1-1 draw...

Yep. I suspect we’ll see Rios before we see Fierro. Our midfield doesn’t need much help but our forwards look like they need a little shake up.

Of course if Espinoza misses games due to his ankle injury we might see Fierro next week.

I suspect they will make the 18 when Almeyda feels they are ready to contribute. Fierro has been here longer, so, you would think he is further along in the process. He is also 5 years younger than Rios, so, getting fit may be quicker for him as well.

    Wow!

Andres Rios scores against the Caps only after three minutes entering as a sub!

    That’s awesome!
