The situation regarding dual nationality players is so complicated that it's hard to speculate on his thought process. He's a proper player though, so it would be great to get him back involved with England.
Wouldnt surprise me one bit, especially if our FA start to try and recruit him back into our setup. The Irish will end up going down the same route as the Welsh and try and secure these young kids for their future talent pool as fast as they can kick a ball.
Am I the only one who thinks this notion used by the Welsh is unethical? I know the idea is meant to secure these kids for the future but I barely knew what I was having for tea when I was 16 never mind choosing which country to play for. It's like child trafficking.
Is it any more or less ethical than England calling up 14yos who aren't actually eligible? Not that I'm endorsing either btw, there are a lot of shady practices in youth football, for shame.
Yeah, I would agree with that, don’t think we should be calling up players that don’t qualify even if it’s a friendly game or tournament. It certainly didn’t do us any favours going into the latest U17 Championships, what an absolute farce.
How funny would it be if England beat Ireland at their own game and explored Troy Pareott’s English heritage?
Southampton just signed Kevin Danso from Augsburg (subject to the League's permission), who is been playing for Austria youth teams but eligible for England. He still has not played for the seniors, so he is available for England in theory.
He was here from 6 to 16 so doesn't have the 3 years between 15 and 21 required for homegrown status.
This is an odd story Irish stirring it up I think. Maddison is desperate to play for England. Cannot see him switching https://www.independent.ie/sport/so...james-maddison-considers-switch-38431909.html
Bullcrap. Not a chance maddison would swap england for a second rate nation like ireland. Why would he give up a chance to play at world cups or euros to play for probably the worst ireland team in history. Wishfull thinking on their part.
Also add, Madison will be in the next england squad. Southgate is not a fool, he knows how good this lad is. Even the Irish on their own forums know this is bullshit. They are all saying their is less than zero chance of him switching
Can’t see that happening in a million years! He will be in the next England Squad guaranteed otherwise I will very, very surprised.
Those eligibility stories are just easy clicks for the Irisih Independent. How much mileage did they get out the Rice story? Every few weeks they'd have a new claim of who he was going to declare for and when.
To be honest it's just as likely to have been leaked by Maddison or his agent to encourage an England call-up.
