    About ********ing time!

    Excerpt:
“Unless there are exceptional circumstances, if a match is abandoned by the referee because of racist and/or discriminatory conduct, the match shall be declared forfeited.”

Clubs guilty of racial and discriminatory abuse will first face a $20,000 fine. If it continues, the team could be forced to play matches behind closed doors, points deductions and the expulsion from a certain competition or even relegation.

The forfeit and point deduction is sadly the only thing that will get those fans to stop.

So, what about all the Mexican P*to chants in Chicago where they were not the "home" team?

They call the match a forfeit and Mexico would have lost.

that is synonymous with mexican fans, so i dont think its stadium based- which does complicate things (in other cases).

people are generally so crappy theres obviously going to be a case of couple hundred fans of a team that masquerade as the opposing teams fans to take advantage of this.

and at what point is abuse more than a fan/fans and considered the majority of fans, the fanbase? is there a percentage, a number?

i fully support (in theory) resonding to racial/all other abuse (god, just the imagine trying to parse baltic nations' treatment of one another) with forfeiting all points, every cent made off of that match, ongoing say 2 match bans, empty stadiums whatever.

but its so hard to quantify. again, a fan of one team throwing a banana from the other teams section. a single player responsible with no provable evidence.

its a good and worthy goal, i just hope they can find a good way to implement/manage it.

Meaning the US would have been Gold Cup Champions by forfeit. What a horrible look that would have been for the US. No one would recognize the US as champions at that point.

It would be a horrible look for US but far far far worse for Mexico and their fans. Their fans would have to own the fact they themselves cost their team.

That rule that FIFA passed should have an exception, saying something along the lines of:

"If a championship match is forfeited as a result of this rule, it is to be replayed behind closed doors."

    No it shouldn’t.

You got to remember this goes far beyond the Mexico fans chant. What happens if it’s a championship game in Italy and the fans are making money chants to a player. Or UCL final and their making terrorist chants about a Muslim player. Or a Europa league final and their making anti Semitic chants.

It would suck to be a player and have a final lost for you. It would suck to be a fan of that team and have a final lost for you because of the actions of a few.

However, this about ZERO tolerance. That’s the only way those people can learn. This rule won’t change how they think. But it will change what they do.

Good luck enforcing this rule in Concacaf. If any Concacaf official tries this with Mexican fans, the police in whatever country they're playing or in Mexico itself are gonna have a very long day suppressing riots. I definitely can't see any referee in this region even daring to do it.

On the other hand, since we were the "home" team, they could call the match a forfeit and Mexico would have won....;)

Yes there’s that possibility but fear of how they react shouldn’t stop FIFA from doing the right thing. I’m sure they’ll plan accordingly.

I didn’t read the whole article but home or away team doesn’t seem to have anything to do with it.

I just read it and it doesn’t. If your implying the home team simply because of fans then naw. There’s ways to check that after the fact before anything is officially done. If it’s there the ref will ended the game and they’ll sort of who was doing it. they’ll be aided by the fact that away fans are sold seats in certain sections. And they may add more surveillance inside the stadium. The Security will be trained and geared toward identifying this better. I’m sure there will be some hiccups along the way but ultimately the fans will have no one to blame but themselves. They want to avoid any issues... keep their racist mouths shut.

In Europe, where it is guaranteed that the home fans will dominate the stadium, and visitors are in their own specific "ghetto", then yes. The problem here, with us, is that in many matches where we play Concacaf opposition, the majority of the fans may well be supporting the other side....and in any case their number is too large to be confined to a specific part of the stadium. So to nail down which group of fans can be held legally accountable for the source of the derision/insults can be nightmarish. I say "legally accountable" because in this country these scenarios seem tailor made for lawsuits galore.
My bet is that in practice the fans of Mexico can "********" away freely [or worse] in our stadiums and nothing will be done about it. The backlash, should we be awarded a victory, for example, because of the behavior of Mexican fans in our stadiums, would be beyond the level of courage of any CCaf official.

Ok but FIFA isn’t making rules based off of our needs but the game as a whole. We have a unique situation. There are other things we can do on our end to enforce this and sort it out. As I said, increased surveillance and true better trained security to sort out who to pin it on after the game has been called. As for the Ref, I doubt they will feel for their safely in the US and it won’t be any different than the risk they take during any game potentially displeasing a fan base.

You're right, but I disagree with you about our players being dumb. It is our COACH that is dumb. He can't even teach that basic knowledge to our players. We have many players that play on top leagues in Europe. If they're that dumb, they will never be anywhere near the Euro teams' roster. Of course, there are some like Zardes, Lovitz, Roldan, Trapp, etc that still remains in the MLS for their careers.

Kinda cool watching Parks on a full sized pitch sending cross field passes. Because of the single leg play off format, we wont see Toronto - NYCFC on a regulation size pitch. It'll be pitch 'n putt @ yankee stadium. Pity.

Johnson guesses right but doesn't have the vertical jump to stop Royer's pk.

At which point it gets testy just before the half.

Good game. NYCFC flavor is kiddie kool aid at home and Cherry Guardiola away when they play on a regulation pitch.

He doesn't have the first step for 6. No first gear.

He has great 2nd gear tho. He can do accurate stuff while moving and he's always quick with the pass.

Would like to see more killer instinct in front of goal, more tricks, guile what-have-u.
