CP hasn't had the opportunity to do this, and the US got there by completely flukey means in 02.

Which has nothing to do with Donovan in that tournament, who was very good as I recall. But still this isn't comparing apples to oranges I don't think.

The comparison was of the players' accomplishments in a US uniform by age 20. So, yeah, Donovan had done more.

Maybe you're right, I think I misread him.

Too bad Pulisic din't get his chance at the WC as a 19yr old, since the vets on this team failed him.

Btw, Pulisic is the youngest player ever to win the USMNT best player award. He also breaks almost every Bundesliga records as a young foreigner.

Was the comparison specific to USMNT contributions, or overall player achievements in their soccer career by the age of 20?

If it is overall soccer career, Pulisic won hands down.

If it's USMNT contributions, I say it's debatable. Donovan has the WC going for him, but Pulisic has way more goals/assists than Donovan by age 20; and Pulisic just turned 20 so he's still got some games to up his numbers.

How old was Donovan when he was useful for Everton on loan?

You mean other than scoring against Mexico in the World Cup when he was 20?

I hope Lamps doesn’t play Pulisic at the 10. That’s not his game.

When Arena's tactics were actually relevant and they pulled a miracle type run. Who is to say what would have happened for Pulisic at this past World Cup had USA made it, although no way he would be winning Young Player over Mbappe.

What about from a production of goals and assists at the same age?

Donovan was 1999 U-17 WC Golden Ball winner.

    squabbling over semantics

Im pretty sure statistical accomplishments was the focus. Puli has done more in that regard. Men lie, women lie, numbers........

I dont think its possible to make a direct comparison. Landon wasnt tasked to carry the team at 20. Puli wasnt at a world cup, either.

As @Schul350 alluded to, neither one of them wins young player over Mbappe in this tournament.

Im concerned about what Lampard revealed. I doubt Pulis starts over Mount at the 10. Pedro and Willian have more pedigree as wingers.

I think this was a signal by Lampard.

Pedigree shmedigree, Pedro turns 32 this month, Willian 31 next month. Time to elbow those two out of our way.

    I agree.

From the perspective of a coach. Who do you trust? Puli should be able to force his way in but I doubt he gets the nod right away when you have world cup winners ahead of him. 31 or not.

Pulisic definitely doesn't have the "10 tools" nearly as refined as Mount so I don't see that happening as the 10 also. I think the spot would be Pedro as the most like for like, Pulisic is a better dribbler, but Pedro has the better final ball and a bit more killer instinct to goal. All things being said, Abromovich blows money, but I think Pulisic will get a fair shot with the money spent on him. I am nervous for him though as Odoi is there too. Pulisic will definitely have to improve to keep a starting spot. Hopefully the physicality helps him for Concacaf too. Ironically enough, I just saw this below...

Definitely, but it's not going to happen all at once. Next season, he'll be starting over one of them and one of them (or both of them) will be moved on I'd bet.

This is the only place LD has out performed CP in places they both played.

wait... LD did have a better Gold Cup at 31 when needing to try to get back into the team after not showing up for the beginning of the Hex.

I think we just watch what happens when Lampard starts to watch CP train.

Lampard will be under pressure (like any Chelsea manager) to win.

If CP can help him do it then I would expect to see him on the field quickly.

He is not a charity case.

glad Micky Gray is so certain ... except I would expect Lampard gets to make the determination and right now Pulisic is much fitter and w/o injury.

    Training will be key.

    Smart move.

He might not turn out to be the talent they expected, but at least the Chelsea fans can't blame him for being lazy.

Hudson-Odoi is a very good player. I have to admit, I have him slightly ahead talent wise.

That whole England U17 world cup winning team has some real attacking talent. Brewster, Foden and Odoi.

Odoi is a better ball striker than Puli and has more physical tools. Puli will be in better shape and will have advantage from a fitness viewpoint. I think Puli needs to look good early if he wants to really cement himself in.

I disagree that goals and assists against the likes of T&T and Panama top World Cup goals and a performance strong enough to garner Young Player of the Tournament. Is scoring in MLS a bigger accomplishment than scoring the EPL.

Who accomplished the most by age 20, in a US uniform? Seems a simple comparison.

Pulisic's playing in a World Cup doesn't change the fact Donovan did and excelled. It's a bigger accomplishment than scoring against the lightweights of a lightweight Federation.
