I looked at the MLS schedule for the weekend of April 19-21. The shirt colors lineup correctly to the 12 league games that weekend. Friday, April 19 CIN (black) v. RSL (teal) TFC (black) v. MIN (teal) LAG (teal) v. HOU (black) Saturday, April 20 CHI (black) v. COR (teal) PHI (teal) v. MTL (black) ORL (black) v. VAN (teal) ATL (teal) v. FCD (black) CLB (teal) v. POR (black) NER (teal) v. NYR (black) SJE (teal) v. SKC (black) Sunday, April 21 DCU (teal) v. NYC (black) LAX (black) v. SEA (teal)
https://www.wired.com/story/should-you-wear-white-or-black-on-hot-days-heres-the-data/ in this test the white shirt was 20F cooler, but carry on
The question was never about white or black in the sun. We all know black in the Sun is hotter. The question was white or black in warm air at night or evening. That article provides no support for the argument that was so passionately made that wearing black on a warm evening is warmer than wearing white.
Post an article about wearing black or white in direct sunlight to defend notion that it is silly to wear a black shirt that the team never actually wears in summer direct sunlight. Okay.....
I have seen article after article saying white is cooler and cotton -- which i doubt we'd wear for merch/"professionalism" reasons -- is even cooler. And then I have seen (conservative) Freakonomics type self regarding gadflies who like to make devil's advocate arguments, trying to say black is cooler, and their argument is bedouin robes, not clothes athletes or Americans wear. And then you find out the argument is really based on chimney effects in robed clothing inapplicable to skin tight jock wear. You're trying to reframe your argument as "only late starts in summer" when even an 8 summer start is in the sun. It sweeps under the rug games at other times of the year in the daytime. When the shirt is also used. Surely anyone who has played soccer knows that an energetically played game in the right conditions at 70-80F can be hot enough. We played select in a thick black jersey in Minnesota in the summer -- Minnesota -- that our sponsors had just bought, and it never happened again, especially when we came back home. I think we had a white tee shirt made before August tournament season started here. People are going to argue with me on this for the same reason they defend Joe Willis who let a ball roll 5 hole the other game and who is up near 1.4-1.5 GAA. For a team that has serious issues we are fairly conservative and defensive of the status quo. I would be looking for any efficiencies or upgrades we can find. I want my white back.
FWIW you're not really getting at the substance now, you're just saying "oh but let us do it anyway because time of year or time of day...."
My kids wanted black jerseys at the last game so I figured it was a good excuse to get me one too. I'll see how it goes tonight since that is what we are wearing.
Lol, yes my seats used to be in section 225. You know where the sun was? Low enough that the pitch was in the shade. The sun was in our faces in 225 for about the first 15 minutes and then was low enough that we were in the shade as well.
