That was his point dude. He’s hoping their greed wins out over CONCACAF greed and they merge the two.

Good stuff. Really enlightening, it’s such a burden that an economist and a Goldman Sachs exec both fought tooth and nail for the position and Cordeiro in particular had a plethora of other candidates willing to do this thankless charity job.

I had just assumed that the President position was unpaid so as not to draw any attention to the ridiculous ammounts of money changing hands, incestuous business relationships between entities like FIFA, CONCACAF, MLS, SUM, Traffic Sports, Premier Partnerships (owned by former USSF President and all around shady character Alan Rothenberg, who also happens to be a member of the prestigous FIFA Ethics Commitee, LOL), basically a propped up suit to give an air of respectibility and all unpaid to make it seem like some sort of altruistic volunteer function.

    You know, a beard.

Any time you see or hear the words "toxic culture" mentioned in media, its always important to see who will benefit from the criticism therein.

Are you implying that there isn’t a toxic culture?

Making 2x the money in a unified Copa America is not worth it for CONMEBOL, who'd be giving up their independence to a bunch of Caribbean island nations.

    It's not happening.

I'm implying that an NYT article on "toxic culture" always needs to be corroborated by a more legitimate outlet.

This. The CFU has 31 minnows that drive the CONCACAF gravy train and siphon off its wealth into handy tax shelters. There's no reason why CONMEBOL would voluntarily enter into such an arrangement, which would result in the nexus of soccer power in the entire New World being in freaking Trinidad and Tobago.

I was talking with a friend about this the other day. He knew nothing about soccer, but when I explained how FIFA voting works (everyone gets one vote), he immediately suggested how you could gain insane amounts of power by buying votes from poorer, smaller countries.

But, you know, "growing the game" and all that.

If USSF weren't such an incompetent Good ol' Boys club, I wouldn't care about how they ran their business. Of course people are going to be taken advantage of in the sports business niche. That happens everywhere because the "product" is so "cool/exciting" that working in the industry is sold as its own reward. But here, it's unacceptable because USSF has plenty of money and plenty of problems, so it needs to hire more, and more competent, staff.

Ok July 8, let’s see the big exodus! Let’s see the women get paid so much money from God knows what revenue! Let’s ring in the change!

    *checks ear piece*

Idiotic. However, there was a mention in one of the videos I watched that he was at every game.

So, I guess it is possible that he never heard any of the announcers pronounce her name if he was in the stadium. However, you would think this is something he would know anyway...

If there really is twice the money (or more) available then CONMEBOL could insist on a different governing structure for the tournament. Pass off the decision making to FIFA ranking like CONCACAF qualifying just did. Some sort of formula whereby the higher you're ranked the more votes your team / country / associations gets. Minnows would have incentive to go along to share in the doubling of $$$.

FIFA probably doubles the GDP of a few Pacific Island nations.

    FIFA Forward Football Development Program:

    A. Financial entitlements

    1) An investment of USD 6,000,000 per member association for the four-year cycle to support operational needs and development projects whilst an additional USD 1,000,000 is allocated to those member associations with an annual revenue of USD 4 million or less in order to support their travel and equipment needs.

    a) Up to USD 1,000,000 per year for operational/running costs:

    i) USD 500,000 released in January each year for day-to-day activities, administration and running costs.

ii) Up to USD 500,000 paid in July each year, provided that the member association fulfils up to ten specific activities during the year (USD 50,000 per activity). These activities include:

    (1) organising men’s, women’s and youth competitions (two age groups for both girls and boys) – each competition should involve at least ten clubs for at least 90 matches and for at least six months each year;

    (2) having active men’s, women’s and youth national teams – each one participating in at least four matches per year;

    (3) having a functioning and regularly updated IT player registration and competition management system (provided free of charge by FIFA if needed); and

    (4) having men’s and women’s refereeing programmes.

    b) USD 2,000,000 over the period of the whole 2019-2022 cycle for projects tailored according to the member association’s approved contract of agreed objectives, and in particular relating to football infrastructure (e.g. pitches, technical centres, training grounds, stadiums and headquarters)

    i) Projects may include other development areas provided that the member association has at least one stadium/pitch allowing international matches to be played, suitable association headquarters, and a functioning technical centre.

    c) Up to USD 200,000 per year for travel and accommodation, and up to USD 200,000 per four-year cycle for football equipment for those member associations needing the most assistance:

    i) A member association is identified as needing the most assistance provided that its annual revenue does not exceed USD 4 million (reflected in the annual statutory audit report of the previous year and submitted to FIFA by 30 June each year).

    2) Up to USD 1,000,000 for zonal/regional associations will be released to the respective confederations in January of each year provided that the zonal/regional association is recognised by the confederation and organises at least one women’s, two boys’ and two girls’ competitions (for national teams or clubs).

    3) USD 12 million for each confederation per year, with the funds automatically released in two biannual payments in January and July each year.

What does this have to do with my post?

The allocation of resources is controlled by a large number of small, poor islands, not all of whom are even their own sovereign nation. The money comes almost entirely from North America, who do not have a commensurate say in how the money is spent.

In most other businesses/groups in the world, this is not how it works. But it's FIFA, who are looking to curry favor with small, poor countries by throwing a couple million at them, so that they can grow fat off the billions of dollars made from the larger, richer Federations.

These issues are the things that indirectly lead to 3-0 score lines against Mexico.

In my humble and unqualified opinion of course.

Dan Flynn is stepping down. I’m guessing they’ll take a year interview 2 people and ultimately choose Jay Beerholder.

The minute Gregg was named coach Jay should have been told to start looking for another job. Even "IF" he has nothing to do with what his brother is doing there should not even be a hint of impropriety.
