They don't really offer anything I can't find through the web lol. I get Sky Sport News on my IPTV service. And the few Arsenal games on Gold I'll just find other means to watch. ESPN+ to me is such a better option.
I think it's kind of crap that they've raised the (new sub) price by $10 a year on an already pretty controversial product. I don't care that much about any Sky additions but will buy for easy access to matches and Premier League Productions shows during the week.
Just so I understand, the 380 games "on demand" does not mean that games shown on NBC, NBCSN will be available live, correct? Those games are available "on demand," but only after they are done?
No surprise here. You can pretty much count on price hikes built into all their business plans. There's a lot of greed, err profit motive. Netflix's history of increases may end up looking tame.
I was surprised my ESPN+ didn't raise this year when it renewed. But I feel it's coming next year lol
Yeah I don't like it and I think they try to suck every penny out of their relatively small captive audience -- but I don't believe that NBC makes money on the Premier League. I know they didn't as of a couple seasons ago when that was reported on by a few sports business types. Gold is a way for them to try to cut out some of the overall losses.
Maybe that's in reference to NBC getting rights (back) for all replayed Man City (and Arsenal?) matches that used to go to YES and other networks for second broadcast? Not sure.
That's a good point. In addition to Man City on YES, I thought NESN had replays, and because of the common ownership I would guess Liverpool, but I don't remember what club.
World Soccer Talk provided comprehensive details on the upcoming 2019/20 NBC Sports Gold Premier League Pass (two tiers). It also gave analysis and opinions on this streaming product. July 9, 2019 http://worldsoccertalk.com/2019/07/09/nbc-makes-big-changes-nbc-sports-gold-premier-league-packages/
The key sentence that caught my eye was: "Notably, the price of the flagship Premier League Pass service has increased by 30% from $49.99 per season to $64.99." Sadly this is what we should all be expecting from streaming providers. Bait-and-switch... hook-you-in-then-crank-up-the-prices... etc. And for that money they should damn well keep the content available for replay longer than they have been!
Sort of. Yes, cable companies have steadily increased their pricing and that's been insidious and annoying. BUT it's been much less pronounced, less steep. The rate that companies like Netflix, NBC and others have increased their prices is steeper and greedier IMO. The other factor, and I wonder if this won't end up being even more of a budget-buster to consumers, is the fragmented streaming provider landscape. In the old days you paid one cable bill for a large bundle of channels, plus maybe a sports pack or a premium movie service. But in the future we could be paying dozens of separate subscriptions, each of which goes for $5-10/mo. That could add up real quick. Not there yet, but we're getting there. It seems.
Wow 50 bucks for Gold wasn't worth it IMO........now it's 65? NBC is in IDGAF mode lol. Despite the massive backlash they got on social media everytime they had a gold ad........they still jacked it up. It just blows my mind cause ESPN+ has way more content and only 5 bucks a month. Maybe next go around ESPN picks back up the Prem League lol
In the old days you also used to pay for your regional sports channel that had a tape delayed Prem match in the middle of the week and highlights + $12 PPV to see Norwich-Arsenal live on Sunday morning. I'm busting your hump as always I agree the rate hike is too much too soon.
Prem ratings are ok but pretty flat season over season for NBC. Who knows what'll be going on in 2022 but you can bet that streaming will be bigger than it is now at that point and traditional cable even weaker. NBCSN keeps losing households even with some pretty good products in the Prem and NHL. ESPN will be happy to move the Premier League into its probably even more standalone ESPN+ (get ready for 2 matches on cable and 8 via streaming )
And they follow NBC's lead in terms of a separate, premium subscription... matching whatever price NBC was getting immediately before?
If ESPN get the Premier League, you can bet your house that ESPN+ will go up in price if Premier League games are included I don't see NBC giving up Premier League - it's like half or more of their sports programming. It's like the Olympics for them, NBC Sports in its current form won't really exist without Premier League
No, they have made their platform preference very clear for the future and it's ESPN+ (all-in-one subscription over the top option)

We shall see. The marketing of streaming is definitely still evolving. I wouldn't count on anything in the future, based on what's happened so far. Except for increasing prices of course!
Don't think they invented it. I've heard it used by English broadcasters/commentators. p.s. And once again you and I disagree. I started using and liking "EPL" when officially it was the "BPL" and I have an aversion to naming rights. Also EPL differentiates it from SPL, and I'm not a big fan of more ambiguous abbreviations, e.g. PL. But we digress!
Don't have time to read that right now. Is there any clarity on whether SSN will ever be on NBCSN like it was this year at 11am? Which I loved.
