I think this has been the most competitive WWC ever. Nearly no pushovers especially in the knockout stage. The Europeans were great but the US has been the best.
The biggest thanks are to you, who moderated these boards into a wonderful experience. Seriously, you were great, @soccernutter: although this WWC didn't end how I would have preferred, I had a terrific time chatting with all of the people here on BigSoccer. Oh, and I didn't even have to correct you more often than I do with my students!
Netherlands has as many female footballers as China. In China less than 1% of their footballers are female. Meanwhile, 40-50% of all female footballers in the world are American. At worst 40%.
Well, i think it’s the only WC since 1991 the US didnt have to go to a shootout in a Knockout round and won every match, so.. Maybe not.
Congrats Usa for winning the World Cup. Netherlands did a fantastic job and there where moments in the game ( especially in the first half ), that you could feel, it might be one of those days, where Oranje absorbes all the pressure and one chance might go the Netherlands way. The deserved penalty was the deal breaker and Usa brought it home and can celebrate. They where the best team this year. Just don`t go on Twitter. There`s a war going on between the pro/cons concerning the $$$ P.S. Oh yeah, 4 stars now, huh? It won`t be easy, but Germany will hopefully be back and catch you, as we did before.
It’s not so clear Germany will be doing the catching up. Other European countries are getting better. And I predict that over time it won’t be two countries getting 75% of the cups. That’s as it should be.
I thought the US was clearly the best team in every match except perhaps against France, even that game it was fairly equal against the home nation.
England, despite having a bad game from Lucy Bronze, had three clear, great chances on goal. One they scored. One was called back on a very tight offside which I don't think was properly reviewed by VAR. The third resulted in the PK.
Yeah England is the best team US faced, but overall US still has the upperhand. I think Lavelle going off was a turning point.
Shots: on target;off target;blocked. Doesnot seem to be that different, Shots: on target;blocked are even 4-1 each.
Funny, I thought the Dunn VAR call on Heath’s goal earlier in the France match was the one improperly reviewed
