As if I need further evidence that I am meme challenged. “I used to be with 'it', but then they changed what 'it' was. Now what I'm with isn't 'it' anymore and what's 'it' seems weird and scary. It'll happen to you!” - Grandpa Simpson
Andi Thomas has a nice piece on USA arrogance. https://www.sbnation.com/platform/a...&utm_source=twitter&__twitter_impression=true
No I think it was Sarah Palin. He/she mentions hockey as a standard against which soccer rules should be judged. Plus, it makes sense politically.
Yours is the first post I have seen which talk about this aspect of the "foul." When one is defending, he/she is obviously entitled to his/her own space, just as the offensive player is also entitled to space. But is the defender REALLY required to clear the space BEHIND the person possessing the ball just in case there is a pronounced BACKSWING? There are a few good videos about how James Harden will often reach into a defensive player's space with the ball so as to get a foul call, and this approach has worked well for him for years. Did White's pronounced and exaggerated backswing initiate the contact? And did she oversell her awkward flop post-contact? (Assuming there was really "contact" at all?)
do you know that your team captain, Steph Houghton had a rumoured affair with/while Mark Sampson was head coach of the NT? or likewise, the allegations on Sampson for being a racist & sleeping with a 16 year old player when he was a club coach? or how the previous one Hope Powell. coached with an iron hand & black balled any player she didn't like? so hence, with such an notorious past, don't know why you keep dishing Alex Morgan> though she did get kicked out of Epcot Center once! going with what one German poster wrote; that the athletic facilities at a D1 college are mammoth vs facilities at even ar well known German pro clubs where the female section of soccer(whether youth academy or adult/pro) are treated like 2nd class citizens with the least experienced coaches & dankiest fields to train on. The suppoesdly 'pro' women players(due to the low pay) still live on campus style dorms way into their late 20/30's(as you might know over here; by the time they hit Juniors, even college kids will for go whatever freebie scholarship to live off campus instead of the cramped dorm lifestyle)
Seriously, there's NO reason to bring ANY of this up. It has nothing to do with the previous posts where the complaint was perceived arrogance on the part of the US players. Nothing good can come of it. I'd recommend everyone just move on.
If it was mocking British culture, it was snotty. If it was a reference to the Boston Tea Party and our independence, it's something else.
And if we're still having to guess what it meant two days later, it missed its mark. Fortunately, however, her header didn't miss its mark, and that's what matters.
Indeed! And we can build on that! Should you guys ever feel lost and desperate in these troubling times, we'll always welcome you back to the imperial family.
Ahh, what wonderful event it was, yes. The Duchess of Susssex became a British citizen in preparation for the marriage. You all can too! Why stop there? Once again, the Motherland shall grant you protection, unity and guidance, so that you can learn the ways of class and sophistication again!
my bad.........but that's cuz now I see that the original OP(JFA) is just catfishing(as he's not from England but think he's from Japan). Not sure if he wanted the 'joke to be on us' situation, or didn't like the English, as based on his posts, we've think that their sore loosers. I found the Sampson story fascinating(and was hoping to find more insight on it) An internal investigation recommended that Sampson should NOT be fired cuz they couldn find any real evidence of supporting those rumours & allegations. but their FA decided to fire him anyway with all the bad publicty it brought fourth. This and other examples like the Aussies firing of Staj & as well as the heavy overturn of good foreign coaches is one of the main hidden reasons why the US has been able to dominate this tourney so far(four coaches that beaten Ellis previously have been fired over the last couple of years) so I can understand that maybe the Sampson story has no place here, but this thread does mention England in it & Sampson was a better tactical coach than Neville and a good enough reason as any to why the US won this game and also I beg to differ and say/sometimes foreingers percieve Americans as being arrogant cuz all we do is keep the attention to ouselves, for example, huge amount of posts on who should of started between Pinoe & Press(two equally talented players) no interest in what ever adversaries our opponents faced(which are usually way bigger problems than whatever we're debating about)

This kind of analysis only makes sense if Sauerbrunn was standing still during the entire play. Brunn ran into White. Penalty. A player with the ball does not have to make allowance for a player closing her down. The player closing down a player cannot make contact with the player with the ball. Nobody said that Lavelle collided with the follow through of the Spanish player. The Spanish player was responsible for her follow through and she clipped Lavelle even more slightly than Brunn does White. You cannot interfere with a player on the ball. You can physically challenge for the ball from an equal postion (e.g. shoulder charge). You cannot go through the player to get to the ball. Foul anywhere on the field and a PK in the box.
