All due respect to @Gilmoy, I need to start the threads going forward due to the nature of the conversation.

Y'all, please consider your tone in discussion, and that most of you are not regular visitors to this forum. Please lower your hostility and aggression (yes, I have seen it increase). But, I will note that this is largely surrounding officiating decisions. Please use this thread. Please take all ref discussions/opinions there.

    And, as a reminder:
Please read the the Mod Warning.

Special Mod Note: I am strongly encouraging everybody to mind their tone as there have been several rather aggressive posts over the past few days. Just about all of you have done a good of not responding to them, but if I think you are over the line, I will be quick to ban from the thread and the discussion will occur post match.

An interesting side to this match is that I guess US fans outnumbered opponent supporters most of the time in this WWC (except, of course, the game vs host France): I am not so sure they can actually outnumber the Orange Wall!

Does anyone have an idea of how the attendance should split up?

  3. Mbappe is supporter of the Orange Lionesses!
:DMaybe because of their victory dance chanting Mbappe on the music of Lirical:ROFLMAO:
    https://twitter.com/kmbappe

  4. Such a funny bunch talking shit about the Lionesses (like the English claiming the final was the USA-England match). Solo pissing down on the Orange Lionesses too.
Just to remind them who they're dealing with, the only nation in the world that has a better record than the USA in the last two important tournements (for the USA being the WC 2019 and the Olympics and for the Orange Lionesses the Euro 2017 and this WC) are the Orange Lionesses.

  5. It's precisely 45 years since Oranje made it's first appearance in a WC Final on July 7th 1974!

Just a quick note, the thread title of the Dutch name needs editing.

Unless it was intentional! "Neitherlands" sounds very dismissive, though. :giggle:

What is Netherlands head-to-head record against the US?

The US has 6 wins and 1 loss against the Netherlands (25 GF, 6 GA). The one loss to the Netherlands came in 1991 and was the very first time the two teams played each other. They last faced each other on Sept 18, 2016, which US won 3-1 (and was a game that I happened to attend in person!).

    EDIT: Adding complete record here:
    May 28, 1991: 3-4 L (Vianen, Holland)
    April 20, 1996: 6-0 W (Fullterton, Calif.)
    May 13, 1999: 5-0 W (Milwaukee, Wisc.)
    May 16, 1999: 3-0 W (Chicago, Ill.)
    Nov. 2, 2006: 2-0 W (Suwon, South Korea)
    April 9, 2013: 3-1 W (The Hague, Netherlands)
    Sept. 18, 2016: 3-1 W (Atlanta, Ga.)

  10. To be honest, given the track record of the Orange Lionesses up till 2016 (shit) I was expecting nothing but a quick exit from the Euros and was totally taken by surprise on how they played (a night and day difference).
This campaign they showed again a completely different face, that of a fighting machine.
So the Orange Lionesses before the demarcation line of 2016 and beyond are completely different beasts, like good willing amateurs vs professionals.

I'm assuming no fouls were committed during that match, least international officials get involved. :D

If the Netherlands win this game it will be won in the midfield. IMO they have the best midfield in the world, and nobody is in finer form than Groenen. Hopefully van de Sanden can tap into some of the form that saw the Netherlands win the Euro 17, but also there should at least be the consideration of benching Martens at this point who is clearly struggling with injury.

Either way I am so proud of the Dutch ladies for making it this far, and playing so well. I have faith that they can get the job done.

Should be a dandy of a match.

Just hope the decisive olays are clean & non-controversial. I hate when a Final is decided on a quirky deflection or harsh handball/PK call.

Reminder to US fans: last time we were favored this big in the Final was 2011.

    Let's not celebrate too soon.

Yep, I don't like being heavily favored.
We gotta play like the USA is the underdog.
No match is a "gimme" at this point.
The Dutch are good, that's how they got here.

    Back on tour !!!
    Honest question here.
I’ve always called your wonderful country HOLLAND....
Do I need to now change my ways to a more inclusive version and say Nederlands ?

  22. Yup, in fact Holland are the western two coastal provinces, North Holland and South Holland. The whole of the country of 12 provinces goes by, in English, the name Netherlands.

According to the Weather Channel, Lyon will be around 89 degrees with 65 humidity, rain + thunderstorms expected. This may well be a very messy final.

I would HATE to have a controversial handball decision go against the U.S. late, that's for sure. ;)

I'm curious, why were both semis and the final all in Lyon?
You'd think they would play the final in Paris, no?
Note, I posted this question in both match threads.
